NOTE: This thread is intended as a guide and jumping off point when making a character here on Firefox. The suggestions presented are just that—suggestions. That being said, we’ve tried to put some helpful stuff in here to make it easier to get started. The least you can do is read it, even if you ultimately choose to ignore it.
As Firefox is primarily a school, student characters are the backbone of the site. We prefer that every member play at least one student character. Student characters are mostly ages 11-17 and anything outside that range will likely require a good backstory. Students are broken up into years based on their age. Students are also broken up into four houses:
Gryffindor: Stereotypically seen as the House of Heroes, Gryffindor House’s guiding values are courage and chivalry. Its emblematic animal is the lion, and its colors are scarlet and gold. Negative traits often associated with this house are stubbornness, recklessness, and occasionally arrogance and self-righteousness.
Slytherin: Often perceived as the counter to Gryffindor, Slytherin embodies the values of cunning, ambition, and resourcefulness. While not inherently evil, the house has gained a bad reputation as some Slytherins interpret these values to mean ambition at any cost. Its emblematic animal is the snake and its colors are green and silver.
Ravenclaw: Home to some of the greatest minds of the wizarding world, members of Ravenclaw House are characterized by their wit, learning, and wisdom. Its house colors are blue and bronze, and its symbol is the eagle. Their advanced intelligence, however, does have a few drawbacks. Often, Ravenclaws are socially inexperienced, and many maintain aloof, cold personalities, or else are so eccentric that they are often perceived as being mentally unbalanced.
Hufflepuff: This house is often the bane of many a firsties existence. However, the abuse to this house’s reputation is decidedly undeserved. Hufflepuffs pride themselves on hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play. A Hufflepuff is often the nicest and friendliest person you could ever hope to meet. Its emblematic animal is the badger, and yellow and black are its colors. Due to their charitable and long-suffering natures, however, many Hufflepuffs can be doormats and they may have trouble standing up for themselves. Also, because Hufflepuffs are often non-competitive in classes or athletics, they are often believed to be deficient in these areas.
If you don’t have a house in mind, there is a lovely counter in the sidebar that holds the number of students in each house, so you can pick a house that doesn’t have quite so many members. Or, you can use this handy sorting quiz.
Other things to consider as a student:
-the age/year of your character (FFU tends to skew older)
-the wand type (Here is a good wand selector)
-an animal companion (Try to remain reasonable. This is a school, not a zoo.)
Currently, Firefox is in need of more Male |Female students.
