Ashelle was studying. When was she not studying? Seriously, she figured she did more work than they would have assigned her in class. But that just makes me all the smarter, she thought to herself. Still it was time for a break according to her study watch. Aunt Ashlee had sent it to her, not only did it tell the time but it's face was color-coded.
When it was time to study the watches glass would be clear except for a 20 minute span which would be blue. Then when that 20 minutes was up there would appear a 5 minutes red span which meant brake time. Also there was a alarm that said in a sweet voice, "My you've been studying so hard, time for a break, don't you think?" and "Break time's over. Back to work, dearest."
This feature could be turned off but for some reason Ashelle found the voice encouraging. It wasn't Aunt Ashelle's but it did sound like Grand Miranda a lot. It made Ashelle feel good inside that her Grand cared for her so much as to lend her voice to Aunt Ashlee's gift.
Ashelle got up to stretch and walk around the common room. She also took a strawberry apple from the basket on the main table the house elves had left and bit into it. This was much better than studying in a classroom and worrying about what the other kids were thinking of her. Studying on ones own might be more work but it was worth it.

It was evening. Andrew had just finished doing his running, which he always did right before it was required for students to find their way to their dorms. After all my classes. Only time I can pull it off. And I gotta run. He'd done his panting and sweating on the way up to the common room, and now, lazily murmuring the password and walking in, he saw a girl wearing circles into the carpet.
"Y'know, if you're looking for a bigger area to run around, the outer edge of the grounds works, usually," Andrew offered. "If you'd like, you can join me on my late-afternoon run tomorrow. Because, y'know, I run. Good thing for me to be good at, perhaps even more valuable for me than classes. And yet there's never a class in running, even though it's probably one of the more useful skills a wizard can have." He laughed knowingly. Being good at running is why I'm here to talk about being good at running.
"It'll be a long time before you find ground worth fighting for; if ya do, it's because of someone on it, f' sure." Then he recognized the girl. Oh. Umm...great. I just outed myself as a coward. Greaaaaaat.

Ashelle stopped dead in her tracks. It was that terribly handsome boy who'd been wondering about his future by the arch. "I was just taking a break from studying. I usually run with my Malamute, Raiku or ride my Thestrals for exercise. Right now I am just trying to envigorate my self before I sit back down to work more."
Ashelle looked at him side ways for a moment. He sounded an awful lot like she'd felt when she'd first come to Firefox. He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day. What they didn't tell you about running away was that it sends your popularity and reliability levels down the tubes.
"Running isn't always the best policy. Sometimes staying to fight is the only option. Especially with this house. People here will," oops there she was again dwelling on what others thought of her, " um that is, if you are trapped some time turning and grasping the bull by the horns is the only way to get out of a situation."
Ashelle sighed and wondered if this relaxing thing would ever be as easy to her as worrying and being on guard. "My name is Ashelle O'Conner, by the way. I am Head Girl here at Firefox."

Andrew's eyes popped a bit. Good grief, that's a full-blown menagerie she's got there. No, wait. Malamute is a type of dog, and Raiku is probably a name. There's still Thestrals...
"Mobility? Agility? These things aren't valued? Why block, deflect, or oppose an attack when you can twist out of its way and then send back a counterattack that will make someone think twice?"
"I'm not talking about outright fleeing, just a desire to choose the battles I fight and the places they're at. Besides, the biggest skill a wizard needs...well, it's two skills that go hand-in-hand. One is the mental quickness to be able to properly assess a situation and what needs to be done. The second...the second is the ability to do it. Whatever it is. If it's running, then be very good at running. If it's figuring out the one spell that will solve the problem neat-and-clean...then figure it out and pull it off."
Andrew laughed. "Plan A is find the problem's answer. That failing, Plan B is run. I look out for me; I'll watch the back of anybody watching mine." There was a passion in that statement, a willingness to step up and put himself into harm's way for someone if they were willing to return the favor later. "I've been bait before, and I've run from things that could kill me soon as look at me."
"Well hello, Ashelle, I'm Andrew Poleyn." Then Andrew did a double-take. "Wait a minute...Ashelle the O'Conner? Like, part of the big fancy way-too-rich-and-important..." He caught himself. "Umm...actually...I could probably do with knowing more."

Ashelle shrugged. "I am not saying those things aren't of value, I am just saying sometimes it's better to face a challenge head on, is all.
She smiled as he connected her with the last living Triad of Ireland. However her eyebrow raised went she heard him describe the family.
"I didn't know we were viewed in such an unfavorable light." she said trying not to get angry. "I assure you everyone in the Triad works, has worked or will work for their share of the family inheritance. It's not a free ride, to be rich like the O'Conners everyone has to put more in than they take out. That is one of the pillars that makes a living Triad work - so Grand Miranda says.
Aunt Ashlee was right, explaining calmly really did help calm you down as well. She really was quiet wise, and Ashelle was glad she was the next in like for the Grandship.
"I will be glad to tell you all I know of my new family - if you're that curious. Here, let's sit on this couch and chat." Ashelle motioned to one of the overstuffed Gryffindor couches and smiled a sweet smile. She hadn't gotten to talk about her new family much with anyone, and she'd been dying to for quite a while.
However she stopped as Andrew's name suddenly was ringing bells in her mind. "Poleyn . . . my Uncle said he worked with a Poleyn once. Ah I remember now! He said the man was his partner for many years but one day the stumbled upon some Neo-Death Eaters try to remake the 'Unknown Death Eater's' Potion. He saved his partner from getting it spilled on him and lost the use of his right lung in the process. They reassigned Mr. Poleyn - my Uncle was unable to do Auror work after that."
