'The common room can be so noisy at times.' thought a harried looking Ceiced as he stepped into the Dueling Hall. It must have been somebody's birthday, or something, because a big mash of people had all crammed themselves into the Ravenclaw common room and commenced to shout and talk loudly and make all sorts of clamor. There wasn't any time that the studious Head Boy liked clamor, least of all when he wanted to get in some reading time. First he had tried his own room, but the sound nearly shook the floorboards even from that distance, so he had taken his book to the Feasting Hall, but since it was just after dinner there was another mash of crowded people heading every which way, leaving him no means of getting there. The Library was a place he figured he frequented a bit too often, and that only left the Dueling Hall.
So, here he was. Ceiced looked around at the spacious interior for a moment, and appreciated the dull echo his footfalls made on the floor as he walked to a nearby bench. This was his first time visiting the Hall, and although he wasn't planning on a duel he thought he could come back to read every once in a while. Goodness knows there was enough trouble outside the school without people having to fight on the grounds inside!
The fighting... Ceiced sat down and rested his head on one hand as he thought. From news he had gathered, the Shadows were staying quiet, although rumors flew hot and heavy that some in the student body were in fact in league with the Society. Preposterous, and somewhat scary, to think it was possible, but without a proper leader amongst them, maybe the students really would start turning to a new source of leadership. A sigh escaped him and he looked up to the ceiling. Talon... ever since he had left things had quieted down considerably, although everyone had been shocked (he chuckled darkly at the pun) at his sudden exodus. Ceiced included, of course. Former student and Prefect in his own house, a man by the name of Faust, was now an Inferi under the control of Azrael himself, supposedly, although that sent shivers up his spine. He had sat not five feet from Faust at the Opening Feast, and the guy had seemed to have it together, but to end up undead and serving something like Azrael? Perhaps Talon had made the right choice, only time would tell, but it was still picking the lesser of two evils to align himself with Azrael's forces instead of with the Shadows. That had to be the right choice.
'Well thinking too deeply on it is only starting to freak me out.' he thought, rubbing one arm and looking warily at the shadows painting the corners of the room. He had to get his mind off those horrible, horrible dark wizards. 'I have just the thing.' he thought sardonically, pulling out a small paperback. Bram Stoker's Dracula, he'd found in lying around a rather creepy section of the Library where the tomes dealt with vampires and other rather nasty beings. He hadn't expected at all to find a piece of fiction there, but then again it did deal directly with a vampire who is probably the most famous of all vampires in these modern times, so perhaps it's being there was justified. Or maybe it had been put there by accident by some scatterbrained library assistant? It didn't matter, the book was in his hands and he was going to enjoy it.
He pulled it out of a pocket in his robes, opened to the first page and started to read, all the while trying his best to banish dark thoughts and just enjoy a good story.
