Light footsteps on the floor of the corridor could be heard as Aednat made her way to the Duelling Hall. She wore pumps that barely made any noise as was usual for her, and jeans too, also one of her favourite choices. Her top was green today, a plain green shirt, short sleeves, that was fitted but made of light material for easy movement- it didn’t only display the fact that she was going to a duel, but that she was hopeful about the weather. It wasn’t usual to be expect summer to arrive at home until it was almost autumn, but this was Spain. Different, right? Beads of matching colours clicked lightly together on her wrists as she walked briskly, but she had left her charm bracelet up in her dorms, the one she almost always wore since her return to Firefox. She was on her way to the Duelling Hall, after all, and naturally that meant that she was on her way to a duel. She was hardly going to wear anything delicate. On the wrist it usually hung around was a hair tie. Aednat’s curls almost always hung loose, but as stated, this was a duel she was going to. Not before time, Aednat was to come face to face with the infamous Charlotte McCartney of Hufflepuff house again.
Charlotte, a name once associated with bright things and sparkles and- apparently, though Aednat hadn’t met Charlotte back at MH when she was still Lottie and didn’t know the reason for this- red balloons and sugar cubes, now described an angry girl instead. Whatever had happened to Charlotte, she had changed, and for the worse by all accounts. Aednat had been in a few classes with her since the beginning of their school year here and had been witness to some of her oh-so-charming displays of behaviour. There was the Astronomy class that Charlotte had walked out of so rudely, for one. But the thing that stood out most in Aednat’s mind was the day that Roan had lost her memory and Charlotte… well, she hadn’t been the kindest. Aednat had wanted to take her up on it afterwards, but there hadn’t been opportunity and she had let it go- if you didn’t act on grievances as they happened, you couldn’t hold on to them and consider it fair to bring it up much later. Well, in cases like this anyway. It was different in the cases of current public enemy number one- Scorpius and the Shadows. With this though, you just had to lig é le faillí. Leave it in the past. So it wasn’t a matter of revenge with Aednat that she wanted to meet Charlotte today. She was going to the Duelling Hall with an open mind. After what Sylph had said, this young girl really needed help and there was a chance that they could get Lottie back. Heaven knew- Aednat would be glad to meet the girl they all spoke of with such fondness who apparently was hiding under there, under the mask that was Charlotte. And Aednat didn’t doubt it. There had been something behind Charlotte’s eyes in the Dungeons that day, a fear of some kind, even as she spoke such mean words.
She just wondered if there was really anything that she could do to help. Still, Sylph had recommended this. According to the prefect, Charlotte had a lot of pent-up emotion and anger, and a duel would possibly help her to release some of that. Aednat could definitely see the sense there. She had been doubtful about her own participation, because maybe it would be better for Charlotte to have somebody that at least Lottie had trusted, but maybe it was better to have someone closer to the definition of stranger. Maybe that way Charlotte wouldn’t hold back. Doubtless she’d seen Aednat before, in the Dungeons at the very least if not around the classes and corridors, but they’d never really spoken at all. Charlotte had no reason to hold back with her. So the two were going to duel. It would do Aednat no harm to duel either. It was highly doubtful that this duel today would reach anywhere near the intensity of a duel or battle with Shadows that they were bound to face sooner or later, but practise in any shape or form was not to be sneezed at.
Rounding the corner, she turned into the hall and was not a little surprised to see it empty. First, for once. Shining blue eyes inspected the room thoroughly for she was an inquisitive girl and hadn’t been inside here before. That in itself was a wonder- she loved to explore. Having done that, there was nothing else to do but wait. Wand already in hand, she wandered around the walls, looking more closely at the practise dummies and singing softly to herself. She hardly looked like someone who was readying herself for a duel, but on closer inspection one might notice the way she twirled her wand in her fingers and then gripped it, playing with it, ready to go, or the spark in her eyes.
