Okay, I know that you all are used to the kind of dueling you have now, but quite frankly it requires no challenge, and thus is no fun. If you'd like to learn how to duel using the old fashioned 'Council Rules' that were once used on the WB site, I am offering to teach you. If you don't know about these rules, which I'm betting you don't, don't worry about that either...basically the differences are that there is only ONE action per post and you can't god-mod...at all. That means nothing. You can't even say the other person flinched. Oh and, of course, all duels must be live. (i.e. the entire thing happens at once, you can’t post once and then leave and not return until the next day...you’d probably die unless your opponent is merciful.)
Those wishing to learn, show up as soon as you're ready. (Although, it would probably be a good idea to check and see if I'm on first...)
Okay, all you chickens, I've even taken the time to LIST all of the dueling incantations you could POSSIBLY need to duel at least half-decently...
Apparate/Disapparate...these MUST be mastered Red spells are offensive spells Blue spells are defensive/counter spells Those that appear in purple are Unforgivables Those in pink are more powerful/useful offensive spells

In the interests of this website, the literary elements present, and how people around here work, I hereby completely announce that I am against bringing any sort of Old Council Dueling here. As a former head of the Council, author of some of its rules and clauses, and one of the few people to be able to claim never being killed in a Council-sanctioned duel, as well as the one who announced the official death of the Council, I certainly know what I am arguing against. While Old Council Dueling may be an exhilirating thing, it gives no help at all towards the literary elements of a Role-Play. Description and detail are almost completely blocked out in an attempt to respond the fastest. This damages the development of literary skills for many people and also hurts the quality of the RP. In my expert opinion on this matter, I do NOT endorse its return. This style of dueling died out for a reason, and, while fun, I see no need to resurrect it on this website.
Rob you are absolutely no fun...and I know all about your track record...what about a compromise? It could be like a sport- like quidditch, sort of is...kinda...well, a sport anyway. It wouldn't be to the death then, obviously, but people would still get to do it...because it is fun sometimes and I miss it.
I, myself, agree completely. I never died in Council Sanctioned duels either (Unknown never did, at least), and Im thinking thats because I rarely dueled. I think the only reason the Professor wants to bring back these dueling rules is because of her own comfort with them, and that is a poor motive. They bring nothing to the table but noobish actions.
In other news, I was the one who proposed the murder of all noobs. Everywhere.
In my humble opinion, this seems like a fairly plausible ruleset... for a non-RP board duel. The point of a RP board is to RP - if something like combat, often the most fun RP to read/write, doesn't allow you to do that, then what's the point? Likewise, you can't really express yourself or your character's originality with one-liners; ok, I conjure up a howling wind, but how do I fit in my character's facial expression, his thoughts, and, quite often, other actions that I wish to perform in that post? Of course this format is helpful in ending *most* God-modding, but a duel's not fun if you can't fit in the gorey (sp?) details of the talon wounds on your opponent's shoulder (Sylphy... .
I also saw a little problem with your list of "acceptable" practices in a duel. You mentioned apparation, now on school grounds that is impossible due to the powerful charms placed upon them. Also, the live duels doesn't work on a board like this because most people jump on here in their free time and don't set aside a block of time specifically for posting on a site.
