Asphodel looked upon her reflection in the icy puddle. The effects of her birth were wearing off and soon the form would be permanent, except for illusions she could cast, but even that wasn't the same thing. Still, she was pretty pleased. pale, almost translucent skin, long, green hair in soft waves, and piercing black eyes. Even her mortal clothing pleased her, the same color as her eyes. She felt warm enough, even in the cold of almost winter.
Satisfied, she stood, easily brushing the dirt and mud from her. The earth listened to her, and knew she meant it no harm, only wanted to return it to where it belonged, so no dirt remained, no muddy streaks clung to her skin or clothing.
She had gotten quite lucky, and had found both Holly and Juniper for sustenance, always careful to plant a berry when she ate some of them. No need to take too much. No need to strain the relationship she had with the forest. The trees and animals knew she was there to take care of them, and so, they were happy to help take care of her.
Of course, she ignored the rabbits that had tried to sacrifice themselves for her sustenance. That was unnecessary, since the Asphodel had no plans to trade their lives for hers. And, besides, she could take enough from the plants without killing them, so that was much better. Still, they kept her warm at night when she slept, and kept an eye out for any who would harm her.
It was enough.
Asphodel made her way forward, ready to finally set to rights those that would profane nature.
