Some time had passed, but Gabriel hadn't kept up with it very well. He had spent almost every night of at least the last week or so hiding up in the common room. Only when he was sure he wouldn't feel Victoria's tugging thoughts, her will pushing him out, had he slipped outside.
The canopy was as far on the campus as he had gone since the crypt. Most of the time he hadn't even gone outside, but this time ... well. He felt mildly safe. Besides, he couldn't hide forever. That would just be stupid. Gabriel sat on the edge, legs dangling over the side. The lake water was much too cold to mess with, but it still felt rather peaceful. It was still the middle of the day, dark was ages away. No worries for at least a few hours, unless Victoria was something other than a vampire.
Safety.
He still hadn't gotten a wand, mostly because he hadn't been going to classes anyway. Besides, he'd survived long enough without one. A wand hadn't saved his ass back in Hadley. They were just dumb, magic sticks that were a shortcut. Right?
Humming under his breath, he stared out over the lake, for once putting his back to something. For once, he was zoning out. For once, for once.
"What the hell am I doing?" He mumbled, scratching at the place on his neck. Always a reminder. Maybe that was why he didn't let anyone clear out his scars - he liked them, kind of. They were a reminder, and god knew Gabriel liked to brood about the past .
Thinking about it, Gabriel kind of wanted to go home.
Ugh. Why was home so far away? Couldn't he have picked an American school, or something? Dumb. Dumb, dumb dumb. He should have really thought longer about this sort of thing.
Oh well. Too late now.
