Well days had been better. A misting rain fell, placing little diamonds in Rioku's loose hair and on the tips of her eyelashes. The witch wore her house colors for once, instead of her usual blue scarf and acrobatic outfit. Looking haughty, she moved across the lawn towards the lake. Perhaps she'd see a nymph. It had been a long time since she'd seen one. Surely there'd be at least one playing in the water along the banks...
At her heels was the black fox Shade, his ears pressed back on his head and growling softly when the rain hit him on the snout. Rioku cast a downward glance at the young fox, a smile flickering across her lips. Then it was gone.
It'd been months since Rioku had walked across the campus. Mostly, she'd stayed shut up in the common room, studying. Searching. Her eyes raked over the glittering surface of the lake, then flicked skyward, blinking as tiny drops invaded her eyes. Ugh. She been so....ugh. Lately. That was the only word for it. At least, the Slytherin didn't have another word for it. Ugh.

Ryo heard footsteps not far from where he was. A fellow Slytherin was out by the lake. She seemed to look a little how he was feeling. He had been waiting on Ashelle to teach him some magic in the hospital wing when the Headmaster "warped" in. A Prefect was unconscious and there were two strange women who didn't smell of magic. It was clear that he wouldn't be any help so he left without saying a word. It was a lot to take on at once and was very far beyond him. If that wasn't reason to feel ugh, he didn't know what was...
So naturally, he went to the lake. it was a nice tranquil place for him to collect his thoughts.
Lost in his thoughts, he bumped into the girl, "Itai!" It was an expression in his language similar to ouch.
"Oh, I'm sorry," he said bowing a little. "I'm Kanagawa Ryo. How do you do?"

Surprised anyone would be out in the rain, Rioku spun around to face the boy. He looked about her age, maybe younger. She wasn't sure. Peering at him through dark locks of wet hair, a faint smile rose on her face. A Slytherin. That was something good. Shade didn't even growl at him, which meant he was what he appeared to be.
"S'alright," she said quietly. Her dark eyes flicked up and down his form. She could have used a spell, but the rain wasn't so bad, maybe...It felt good, that was one thing. "Hi. I'm Rioku Sabyr."
Such strange names. His was obviously Japense or something of the sort, but hers...nothing in particular. The fox kit at her heels seemed a little thrown off by the appearance of another person, and despite the mud, he sat down. Rioku looked skyward for a second, as if she needed to see if it was still raining. "Great weather, huh?" she said, half-teasing. He looked like the kind of person she could tease and he wouldn't be offended. Or annoyed.

Rain... it seemed to be raining a lot these days. The water didn't bother him too much, although if he didn't watch it he would catch a cold. Ryo noticed Rioku talking to her fox. It was a curious thing that little black fox. He would have to ask her about it.
"Great weather huh?"
Ryo laughed a little and replied, "Oh yeah, perfect for a picnic. All we need is food, heh."

ooc- At least you post within the next 24 hours. XD I fail at life.
I think I left my muse in my other pair of pants hold on....
bic- Shade sneezed.
Rioku stared at him for a good ten seconds.
He whined.
This was probably the worst conversation in the history of the world.
Rioku chuckled lightly and, once again, tried to think of something to say. "All we need now is the checkered blanket and the volley ball net." Gahhh now she wanted to play volley ball. And she was hungry. Great. Food could happen but....not volley ball.
"So what brings you into the wet outdoors? Because sports and cloud-watching seem to be out of the question." A rain drop beamed her in the eye and she blinked a few times. Shade abruptly butted her in the ankle, a sign up utmost boredom.

Ryo chuckled. He was never one to be pegged as a huge talker, but this was ridiculous. Rioku actually asked about the weather and even that had lead to nothing more than a small sarcastic response. A funny thought popped into his mind and then he heard the girl speak again.
"That could actually be quite fun. I'm a little hungry myself. I'm not so sure about the volley ball though," he said with a grin and continued, "but we could try."
He couldn't decide on looking serious or playful and added, "I come here because when half naked boys aren't trying to drown each other and Hufflepuffs stop turning cat animaguses into projectiles, it can actually be quite refreshing and calming to gaze at the lake."
This was pleasant, if a little awkward, as neither of the serpent's had much to say. It was his last remark that got her attention. Rioku's eyes widened slightly, and a cheerful grin appeared on her face.
"What kind of parties have you been going to?" Rioku asked, her dark eyes glittering with amusement. It was hard to imagine such chaos on a day like today. Save the ripples of rain drops, the lake was calm. "Somebody through a cat in the water, but it was an animagus..." She grinned again, although she felt a little sorry for whoever had become a projectile. "Do you know who the cat was?"

Ryo was happy. He had finally gotten a conversation going.
"It wasn't a party in the formal sense. I get the feeling though that with that Orca guy it's always a 'party'. The cat turned out to be a girl. I think her name was Tigger Monochrome or something. She seemed to have such a sour personality."
"I'd be sour too if a 'Puff threw me in the lake," Rioku commented dryly. Tigger? The wonderful thing about tiggers....That would be awesome to have that name. Rioku wondered if she could get her name legally changed.
Shade took that moment to shoot through the mud. She hadn't seen him get up, but he was mud-covered and growling. Something rippled below the lake surface. Maybe a giant squid or something. Rioku blew out air.
Brushing her bangs out of her face for the tenth time, she looked back at Ryo. "I don't think I know Orca. He doesn't go here, does he?"
Shade growled. Rioku stared, wondering why she hadn't thought to light her own wand. Then she wondered why she was still thinking about doing it instead of just doing it.
"Lumos," she murmured. The wand tip burst into light, and Rioku held it up to further the light pool. A small water demon, not particularly frightening but creepy looking just the same, appeared on the surface of the lake, growled at the light, and disappeared. Rioku chuckled.
"I didn't think they came that close to the banks," she said, turning back.

Ryo breathed a sigh of relief as the small water demon vanished from sight. He turned to look at the girl and noticed something for the first time. He noticed just how attractive he found her now that she was in the glow of her wand light.
"Well I'm glad that is over with. Although, I must admit I'm a little disappointed," he said. "Hey, umm, I was wondering... Would you like to dance with me at the end of term ball Rioku?"
He was blushing fairly strongly. He doubted there was much use in hiding it.
"At least it didn't try to eat anybody," Rioku said, glancing pointedly at the fox kit. As if sensing her thoughts, he growled at her instead of the water. She spun on her heel, almost fallling over, and stared for a second. He was bright red. He was serious.
Once again, Rioku couldn't think of anything to say. She immediately lowered her wand. People didn't like to be stared at when they were embarrassed. She grinned at him, but new she was flushing a little herself. "Yeah. That'd be great." She grinned again.

A small grin appeared on the boy's face. He had a date!
"Thank you. I'm sure it will be a fun way to start the year don't you think? I can't wait to see what's in store. This year was a little crazy. Did you know a Nephilim actually broke into the school. The weird thing was I think he had a vampire with him. I can't help feeling that that was only the start of more to come."
The snake wasn't sure if such an off-topic statement would interest her so he added a quick question, "By the way, what year are you? And is this your first year here?"
