It was her first night at Firefox University, and Maya couldn't get to sleep. The Slytherin dorm was too quiet, her room too small, the beds too hard, and the night sounds just too different. With a groan of frustration, the dark haired girl rolled her travel-worn body out of bed and shuffled out into the Common Room. It was growing late, the fire burned low and all the students retired for the night leaving the large room dark and abandoned. Maya didn't even consider relighting the fire and curling up in a chair. She headed straight for the portrait of Salazar Slytherin and her chance for freedom. Some fresh air might be just the cure for her insomnia.
Keeping an eye out for any Professor on patrol, the girl stole through the oppressive stronghold until she made her way out to the grounds. Someone once told her that strange and dangerous creatures lived around Firefox, but Maya knew better than to believe such rubbish. Surely no one would open a school where vampires and werewolves where the next-door neighbors. No, the only danger she faced was breaking the rules. Lucky for her, if the Hat put her in Slytherin for any reason it was for her resourcefulness and cunning. She wouldn't let herself get caught. Really, if she put her mind to it, Maya could give some masterminds a run for their money and most likely win too. But it was personal ambition that drove her, the urge to make the impossible happen. Though lately she hadn't been so fortunate.
Feeling she had walked too far, Maya was about to turn around when a small structure ahead caught her attention. It was made of white stone that shone in the moonlight, making it a hard destination to pass by. Walking closer, the girl realized that she had stumbled upon a graveyard. Rather, the resting place of Salazar Slytherin himself. Shivering, Maya pulled her jacket closer over her tank-top and pajama bottoms. To any other Slytherin the Crypt might have been an uplifting symbol, but all Maya thought of was the dead body inside. Usually she wasn't troubled by irrational fears, but she found she clutched her wand in her hand for comfort anyway. "It's just a dead guy," she calmed herself. "And as a Slytherin, I shouldn't...."
"Ugh, what's in a name anyway?" she suddenly asked the darkness. "I'd have been ambitious and proud and a headache for any authority figure no matter what silly House I got into. Here I thought Slytherin would at least inspire some adventure and excitement. Instead, what do I get?"DERP!DERP!
