Some many moons back, an abomination rose from the depths of this grand mansion, when he should have just allowed himself to rot and slowly let the earth digest him. And when he arose, the freak met a girl whom....did not smell like one, clean and comely though she may have been. When last his gnarled shadow was cast on the earth, wars had been fought with swords, horses, and cannonballs, and gunpowder had been revolutionized in a deadly new invention known as TNT. When he was brought to date by the strange girl(?), however, he had come to learn that the world had taken a turn for one radical twist after another. Humans no longer raced towards the dream of Manifest Destiny, their influence and reach had then encompassed the entire globe. Wars were fought mostly with machines, computers, sophisticated weapons that could blanket cities with indiscriminate carnage in a matter of seconds. Wars are no longer fought by soldiers, they're fought by politicians. Violent criminals of war are eligible for parole, free to jump back into killing as early as that next weekend.
Beside himself with all the historical literature he had taken in, the vampire went on a long overdue walk, scouring his beloved Europe and seeing for himself just how much age-old cultures had changed along with man. He was thankful to see that some of the older parts of this world were left relatively pristine. He was starting to wonder how long it would last though, before man would undo everything beautiful he had ever introduced to the world, the perverbial snake eating its own tail.
Returning to the only place he could call home, the only place he didn't have to stay invisible in the shadows if he didn't feel like it, was this Castille. Grand, luxurious, comforting and cool. Time seemed hesitant to touch it, not even this monster was sure how old it was. But this kind of beauty was not seen every day. After all, this was not a place for humans, it probably was not even a place -by- humans.
Crouched upon the roof of the main structure, a level walkway was lined with gargoyles, their features contorted with sneers and animal insanity. His own face was one of the few with a stable, mellow disposition, but he all the same looked like he fit right in among his ugly brothers of stone. A passing breeze flew by, and the folds of his long coat was sent tossing about. Beneath it was a musty old wizard's robe, still muddled with dust and cobwebs from all the rafters he had hidden in during his trip when the sun came up. He rose to his feet and stared off into the night.
