Megan knew she shouldn't beat herself up, but she couldn't help it. In her mind, the first year reran through the last few seconds of the match. Why did he have to get there first? Why wasn't she there?!
Sighing, the brunette girl rolled up the baggy sleeves on her Quidditch uniform and hung her head at the same time as kicking off her shoes and folding her legs underneath her.
Not only had Megs failed herself, but she had failed her team. Sylph had scored, and then she went and ruined it. If the small girl hadn't felt sick before the match, she sure did now.
It may not be good sportsmanship to hide right after a game, but it was all Megan could do.
OOC: 2 seconds more and we had it... ya bastard....
IC: The Gryffindor chasers were on a roll, nothing could stop them. But then, to her utter dismay and heartbreak, Sylph heard the one thing that could destroy all her hopes. Protege had the snitch. A scream of "no!" and a few swear words later, and she was on a heap on the ground, her head between her knees. They had lost. Gryffindor had lost. They hadn't deserved that, they hadn't... Slytherin had fielded a poor team, they had had it...
But it was all over.
...
A weary and disheartened Sylph entered the changing room, her broom trailing behind her. Her robes, normally scarlet and gold, seemed dull in the face of her black mood. This was not a girl who took well to loosing. Her violently purple hair was mussed, and a seemingly permanant frown was on her face. None of this, however, was directed at her young seeker. The capain's fist connected with a locker door, denting it significantly, but when she spoke, she sounded tired and sad.
It was understandable, really it was. Sylph had every right to be as angry as she was. Megan should have done better. Should have pushed herself that little bit further. Green eyes dared to look up for a moment, filled with apology. "I'm really sorry... I thought I had it, but he was that bit faster. He had a better broom too. Not that I'm making up excuses, I should have been there, but.... I'm so sorry, Sylph," Megan whispered, looking back down again and hugging her knees.
Next time she would do better... if the purple-haired captain would give her a second chance.
Sylph looked up at her first year seeker. The girl was close to tears, and Sylph understood. Sighing, her peridot eyes flashed, just the once, and she shook her head tiredly.
"Not your fault, kiddo," she told her matter-of-factly. "We were on top, I don't know how we lost to that. They got lucky, that's all. Too - damn - lucky -" Her foot connected with a door, a hole punched clean through it. Cursing madly, Sylph shook her leg until the foot was free once more. "No, wasn't your fault, Meg. This isn't over. Oh," she looked up from her foot again, her brows raised. "And we can get you a new broom if you need one. Can't have our seeker on that old school thing anymore, can we?" For a moment, the violet-haired captain paused, but during that time she seemed to gain her seemingly lost spirit, her eyes bright and sparkling once more.
"Next time," she said, her voice full of passion. "We get revenge."
