"Okay Shad' you can do this." The sixth year Slytherin whispered to himself as he stood alone. The wild-haired teen was standing on the back end of the Quidditch stadium, hiding behind its tall material, whilst gripping a black wooded broom in his left hand.
It was normal for him to be this solitary and discreet, but not usually out of embarrassment. For, everyone he had met so far seemed to be a firm-hand on a broom... Unlike himself. Even being brought up as the pure-blood that he knew he weren't to be, he, had not tempted him to try out the delight of flying for himself. Never.
Shadonius Clearwater shook himself, and glanced around to make sure no one was around. He had chosen a spot as great as he could find, dark, shaded and hidden from the prying eyes by the many bushes dotted around him.
Shadow scolded himself mentally, throwing down his muggle-band satchel and mounting the broom. It took him a few moments to persuade his stangely nervous mind that, infact, this 'stick' could actually take his weight.
Lightly pushing of the ground, he managed to hover for around five seconds. Those few seconds of shock ended suddenly, he slipped, yelping as he fell back to the ground. Groaning in pain as he landed, Shadow cursed quietly in his native language. "Never, never... NEVER AGAIN!"
Fuu needed to practice and she knew it. She was the beater for the best Quidditch at Firefox... or at least she thought so. Except for the cold air filling her lungs the morning had gone pretty well. She had woken up on time, found her leg warmers, remembered the spell to unlock her player materials, and even cleaned her wand. She didn't want it to sort out because it was grumpy and dirty or something. It wasn't and easy walk to the field considering she exercised twice a year; Quidditch and practicing for it.
The field looked cold and big. It was far more dull than it was in season. Crowds cheering, the sound of prides shattered and glories crushed. She loved this sport. Fuu was dress in all muggle clothes as usual. She wore a large brown and yellow plaid coat with a deep gray wool skirt. Under her tall canvas and rubber boots were some knitted leg warmers coming up to her knees. With a scarf around her neck and mitten on her fingers Fuu looked as if she could battle a hard Arctic winter... or not.
She had to take a break, she couldn't handle more walking. She straddled her broom and ordered it to do its thing. She was only a few feet off the ground when she noticed something odd in the corner of her eye. She saw a boy fall off a broom and yell something very loud and very angry. She chuckled to herself and grabbed her equipment. Slowly she made her way to the grounded boy. He was familiar. She had seem him around but never talked with him before. She tried to remember his name but to no avail.
"I'm sorry. It must be depressing not be able to do that like everybody else...", she stopped for a moment to observe the boy. He didn't seem like a generally happy young man. "Now, we can't have our house looking weak," she started to say and she lowered her broom. She was okay in the air, jut not on the ground. She swung one leg over her broom and toed the round only to have her ankle give out and her to stumble almost into a fall. She regained her composure and gave a sidelong smile to the boy. "As i was saying, you not being good at this is going to bring the whole house down. I'll help you".

Shadow grumbled to himself in French, quickly clambering to his feet as a girl flew towards him. Sighing as he dusted himself down and stood up straight. His 5'7 body ached slightly from his fall, but he wasn't about to complain over something so stupid. This girl was obviously a Slytherin, he had seen her around and about a few times. Never spoken to her though. Plus, her talk of letting the house down, just plain added to his depression.
The teen shrugged, "Well, I guess that'll just be another thing on my list. Let the house down... great."
Shadow raised an eyebrow at her slight stumble, being bad in the air was one thing - but unable to even stand? He rolled his eyes. The sixth year's failure annoyed him, even more so that someone had actually seen it.
Throwing the broom to the ground, he turned his back on her, picking up his bag and slinging it over one shoulder. Glancing back at her for a moment, his cold blue eyes eyed her figure before he began walking slowly away. "I doubt you'll be able to help."
He seemed really sarcastic, which wasn't unusual for the people in her house. After she had so kindly offered to help the jerk threw down his broom and turned his back to her. Then, quite rudely he grabbed his bag and turned back to decline. But he didn't decline in the politest fashion. Fuu cocked a brow and her smiled faded. That rarely happened. She didn't like to get mad because she did irrational things when she was mad. She placed her hand over her broom and brought it up to hover in place.
The redhead watched as her house mate walking farther and farther. He hadn't looked back so far, well that she had seen. Fuu knelt down and retrieved her bat. She gripped in firmly in her left had. Then all in an instant she unhooked the latches on the bludger case and the balled zoom into the air. Fuu drew her delicate arm back and cracked it as hard as she could. The ball sped like lightening toward the Slytherin boy. She jumped on her broom and flew fast and hard to catch it. Whether it would hit or miss him, she would see.
She spun around fast in front of the boy and caught her ball. It struggled but she knew how to handle it. Fuu was up higher than he raven haired Slytherin and she knew she had a skirt, but she managed it around enough so that all was safe. She lowered in front of him and stared. It was almost a glare, but not quite. "Jerk", she said simple and floated back toward her equipment.

Walking at a steady pace, Shadow kept his head low - staring at the ground. He didn't need more recognition from anybody, especially after his pure embarrassment of what had just happened. Why must I be so pathetic in the air? Of a broom, of any course... Apparantly, broomsticks was the natural method of travel for Wizards and Witches alike. Then, why, couldn't the Slytherin grasp that concept?
Shad' ran a pale hand through his hair as he sighed quietly, before thrusting both palms deep into the pockets of his jeans. Maybe if he'd actually bothered to attend -any- lessons, he'd have learnt. Or, maybe, if he had decided against escaping Canada, Tohni could have taught him couldn't she? Well too late now, bright spark, your practically an outcast of your family.
A slight wirring above him, brought Shadow back to his senses. Gazing only a couple of feet above him, was the unfamiliar metal of a Bludger. He yelped in his childish manner and flung his arms over his head. Fortunatly, the girl spun before him, managing to catch the ball. The look she shot him was mimicked in his own eyes, as a snarl escaped his throat at her words.
Turning on the spot as she flew away from him, he cursed at her and withdrew his wand from his bag. "Argumenti," he muttered, watching the icy waves blare from the end of his wand towards the broom-sat gilr. Shadow smirked lightly, hoping it would at least catch her off guard, before striding carefully back to where they had been.
So, Fuu would admit it. She was mad. It was kind of nice to at least feel some strong emotion. Since the war and her not seeing Tobias, and everything else that had happened Fuu had felt out of place. She had no real direction in her life and more and more often she was picking fights rather than making friends. It was very out of character for her. And even when she was nice she felt like she was pretending. So, even this raw angry emotion was enough to sustain her for a time.
With a half satisfied, half-regretful demeanor she flew back toward her equipment and almost reached it until something awful happened. A hard jet of icy water beat furiously against her back and head. This sent her into a full three hundred and sixty degree flip, going head first. In he process she had slid off her broom and was holding onto the stick with on hand. She recovered from the shock to see the boy standing nearby with a wand in his hand. This time, her cerulean eyes boiled like liquid magma. She had more hate in her eyes than she had ever had.
Slowly she lowered herself to the to the ground. Once her feet touched the chilly dewed grass she released the broom. It sharply dropped to the ground. She stared at the boy not saying anything. Fuu shivered slightly and beads of water dropped from her hair. Above her she could hear the whistle of the bludger speeding through the air. She hadn't been able to keep a hold of it during her spin-out. The whistling would get louder, then fade, but after just a minute it had made of it's mind to fly straight toward Fuu.
From directly above her it dropped quickly and powerful. She saw it almost too late and managed to stumbled backward and let it smack the earth with a dull 'thud'. Before it had a chance to shoot upward and dart away she grabbed it. Up until this point she hadn't taken her eyes of the raven haired boy. She held it tight against her chest and continued to secure it in the ball's proper trunk space. Fuu took a second to look at her hands, they were reddened from when she had caught it earlier, she should have worn glove.
Fuu stood and made her way back to the boy. She wasn't prepared to say anything, but she decided to speak anyway. "You--", she stared strongly with deep conviction lacing her tone, "are... not a very nice person...", her point seemed to fade with her next sentence, "it's cold, yah know. What if I get the wizard's f-flu or something..." Fuu knew she was being hypocritical and stupid. She had done something far more nasty that she had. Fuu had treated people in the hospital wing with serious bludger head injuries. But... somehow as stupid and meaningless as it sounded, it was all she could think to say.

Shadow's spell worked a treat, soaking the fellow Slytherin in the jet of liquid. Slightly better than expected, not only did it soak her - but it caught her off balance aswell. Sending her spinning, until she was hanging onto the broom with one hand. The boy gazed up at her, a dark smirk painted across his pale face. Such luck...
Tsking softly, Shad' caught sight of the sudden flare in her eyes. He glanced aside for a moment. Maybe he over re-acted a little, but then again, he often did. it was not a difference in his nature to attack when it was not neccessary. Jumping to the wrong conclusion was a love of his. Dark strands of hair, fell over his eyes as he hung his head, watching the girl lower herself to the ground.
Moving a few paces backward as she approached him, he stiffled a yelp as she caught the self-minded ball and tackled it into it's rightful place.
The slytherin teen, rolled his eyes at her words. "Well noticed, I do believe you may be the first to tell me that." His soft words were dripping with angry sarcasm. He scoffed quietly, "Wizard's flu?" Shadow twirled his wand in his fingers, turning it down to the ground. "Incase you hadn't noticed, I wasn't the one to start this fight."
He mocked her, which was expected. She had said something dumb. But still, she felt offended. Next he laughed at Wizard's Flu. That is no laughing matter. She didn't know the proper name from it, but it was very unpleasant. When you had it, every magical device would go haywire, every spell you tried would backfire... wait, that was how she was most of the time anyway...
Fuu watched as he coolly twirled his wand. If she had remembered to bring hers perhaps she would think about dueling him...mostly likely not though. He stated that he wasn't the one to start the fight, even though it wasn't much of a fight... but, Fuu would have strongly disagreed. Damaging her pride with a snide comment seemed like a good fight starter to her. As each word rolled out of his mouth she had the most irrational feeling. Her hand hung to her side and it was itching to slap him.
Then she just... stopped thinking for a moment, she shut down. And during the rebooting process she came to her senses. What was she doing? Why was she being mean for no reason? Just cause he was being a prick didn't give her the right to give the boy brain damage. She was about to calm down and apologize when she looked at his face. His smug little face, and all those emotions came rushing back.
Fuu replied to his comment in a sharp tone, "I would disagree.", she stated. She continued to explain hotly, "All I was trying to do was help you out a little so you didn't look like such a dunce on a broom! Then you you just have to go and be a jerk--, " Her face twisted into a sour frown and she mocked in a soured baby voice, ""I doubt you'll be able to help." She turned on her heel and abruptly shot her arm forward and said, "Accio Broom, now!". Almost faster than she could see, it was in her hand.
"I mean, how do you even know I wouldn't be able to help? Sure, I am not great on land, or... s-sea but I am pretty damn good in the air..." she paused and her eyes shot to the ground for a second, "...mostly" Fuu returned her fiery gaze to the boy. She had nothing else to say, so she just waited for a reply.

Shadow cocked an eyebrow at her words, folding his arms as he did so. His body and mind had already become pretty accustomned ((sp?)) to people becoming quickly annoyed with his stubborn attitude. Supose, he had even become fond of their hatred of him. Solitary was much more peacful than the hassle of speech.
At her mocking, his lower jaw dropped slightly in his fury and disapproving. He clicked his tongue hotly at her tone. On a normal day, or indeed, if his opponent had not been a girl, he would have almost certainly attacked them by now. Spells or violence, either. Although, he did have a fairly large cross-shaped scar from the back firing of his actions. Attacking your girlfriend's ex, ack, not a smart idea.
"You disagree. Yeah well, you go ahead and think that! I wasn't the one to freaking hit a bludger at your head, was I? Think about who you're talking to before you go and blurt out stuff!" He glared back at her, angst ridden and pissed. Blue eyes watched as she called the broom to her palm.
Shadow exhaled deeply, removing his satchel from his shoulder and tossing it to the ground. "I don't..." His arm jerked to the side, his discarded broom shooting to his grasp. Sighing out of stress he crossed his arms over the top of the broom, resting his head on them as he stood watching her.
After the boy scolded her for talking and not thinking before hand he forced his broom to come to him. Her grip was tight around her broom handle, waiting for him to speak. Waiting for him to say something terrible or worthy of her wrath. But the words out of his mouth surprised her.
"So prove me wrong."
Fuu froze for a moment not sure how to respond. She smirked slightly and replied strongly, "I will." She held her broom to the proper mounting height, squeezed it hard and willed it to say. Fuu released the charmed stick and it floated all by itself. "The trick to it is all in your willpower. You have to know its just a charmed branch with some hay tied to it. Nothing more."
Fuu explained to the boy what she had done to make it float and told him to do the same. It was the easiest part, a trained monkey could do it. Then she looked at him, still a little angry and she swung one leg around the handle. Both of her feet still touched the grass but the broom floated between her legs.
"Try to center yourself and know that your broom is going to be back heavy," she paused only a moment, "This is going to be the difficult part. If you try to hard for flight you'll shoot up a hundred feet in the air at eight miles an hour. But if you just barely hop; you'll get nowhere. Think of a nice happy medium height and in your mind force the broom to the height you want. Too lift off you jump...like this"
Jumping mostly with her ankles, her broom shot up and hovered just over the boy's head. "Remember that you do the work and that your broom doesn't. If you want it to go up, forward, down backward--" she pointed to her skull, "then you have to make it". She had said enough for the moment, she would wait for him to catch up.

"I-uh..." Shadow hadn't really expected her to agree. It had just been a spur of the moment, get-her-to-leave comment. She wasn't suposed to say yes. Still, he couldn't exactly turn back now.
Reluctantly, he let out a small frustrated cry before copying the girl's actions. First try: The polished black wood fell straight to the floor. The teen growled and attempted to get it working. He didn't need more embarrassment than he had already suffered. On his third try, the broom hovered delicatly beside him. He didn't waste time catching up with her. Shadow stared at the ground as he swung on leg over the broom, balanced fairly well as he was still pretty much standing on the ground.
Watching her push of lightly, he quickly turned his eyes back to the ground. He already looked a dunce... especially on a broomstick. The teen raised an eyebrow in disbelief at her words. Jump? Jump on a broom, on a tiny little stick that could barely hold a fly? Rolling his eyes, he decided to give it a go. Jumping with his feet, the 'branch' lifted off from the ground.
Wobbling as he tried to remain calm, his heart rate increased rapidly. Shadow struggled, shifting on his broom to avoid slipping of and repeating his previous incident. catching sight of her indication to her skull, he growled slightly mimicking her in his fading anger. Bad move...
A small yelp escaped him as he fell sideways from the wood. All of a sudden, he was only holding on by his palms. His breathing became deep and quickened. "Some great teacher you are..." he wasn't really angry - just annoyed at his repeating failure.
Fuu waited for him to get his wobbling self to her level. He really wasn't good at flying. He looked nervous and not in the least bit of control. No wonder he wasn't doing so well. He was scared. She wasn't going to laugh at him or mock him though. Her first time flying, she nearly fainted. He was slowly getting up to her level when something went wrong. He cried out a slid off the side of the broom. Fuu smirked, she couldn't hold it back.
Fuu watched the boy, only holding on the with his hands. It is always funny to see someone hang in the air like that. He judged her teaching skills. She kept her smirk but raised an eyebrow. "Don't blame me because you're scared.", she stated coyly. Fuu was rarely swift and elegant, but for some reason it ended up looking like that when she flew to the boy's side. She wasn't too far away from his face now, and got a good look at him. It wasn't rocket science to see that he was nervous. She rose a little higher than him and wrapped a mittened hand around his wrist.
"Pull yourself up on you're broom and try again.", she ordered. There wasn't much of an expression on her face and she spoke the word solemnly. "Nobody's a good flyer their first time. And once you become really good at this, I won't tell a soul hoe embarrassed you looked this first time you sat on a broom." Fuu was half kidding and trying to encourage him indirectly at the same time. She stayed there as long as he needed her, if he really needed her at all.
"My name is Fuu by the way.", she mumbled a little bit as she spoke. Fuu wasn't necessarily trying to make friends. She just didn't want to be called something nasty instead. She waited a bit before she spoke, "Try and be confident. I won't let you fall to your death...", she said a little too mundane,"When you're ready, we'll try moving".

Keeping his eyes closed as she lowered herself to his level, he gripped the wood tight with his hands - his legs unsupported in the air. As she spoke he opened them, glaring at her slightly. She studied his face as a deep crimson crossed his cheeks. "I-I'm not s-scared..." he retorted as strongly as he could, yet his words still came out little more than a mutter.
Smiling weakly as a sharp shiver ran from where she was holding his wrist, he shifted his other arm on the branch to get a better grip. Although he snarled at her order, he obeyed. He wasn't exactly in the position not too. In now way, shape or form, did he want her to leave him stranded in the air until he fell again. So. Pulling with most of his strength, his pale arms managed to hoist his body back onto the broom.
Shadow let out a sigh of relief, glancing down once before decideing never to do that again. "If you even dare, I swear, I'll make your life hell." He replied coyly as he practically hugged the flying machine. Despite his words he was just that much of a gentleman to shoot her a grateful look, even if it was just his eyes with the apology.
Nodding a little as she told him her name, he smirked as his wild hair blew arond his face. "I'm Shadow..." he raised an eyebrow, "But if I don't, then you'll let me fall?"
