Raven knew from the moment Rob began to praise her and her ‘skills,’ that something was up. She also knew that from the moment Rob mentioned his errand for her, he was keeping something from her. Normally, the Count would want every capable ally of his around when he was waging a war, and Raven, like he’d mentioned, could be quite capable sometimes.
"....Once the war is over, you may return to Spain, hopefully still the loyal ally I have come to know you as since that one incident."
Raven smiled slightly at the word ‘ally,’ despite the fact that she was still a little put off by his mission for her. Ally. It was such an impersonal word, but from the way he’d said it, it sounded like he’d meant to say ‘friend’ but had long ago forgotten the term.
He glanced at her, his look instantly confirming her impression that he was hiding something. But before she could comment on this, he went on to describe her mission.
”...Please, Raven, do this for me."
There was practically a pleading look in his eyes, but to Raven, the mission itself didn’t seem to be his biggest concern. She took the vial from him and toyed with it for a few seconds before placing it on the table. Raven stood up, so subtlety and gracefully it was as if she’d never been sitting. Moving closer to the Count, she gently pulled him up so that he was standing facing her.
Putting her hand on his shoulder and looking him straight in the eye, Raven gave him a look that expressed a deep loyalty, and even a concern as she said, “Rob, you know that I know not why you send me,” she paused, “But you also know that I will go.”
Then doing something that Raven rarely ever did, let alone to a rather dark and vicious man, she hugged him. While still in the embrace, she whispered in his ear. “Promise me, you’ll never send me away from a war again.”
She picked up the Polyjuice potion and elegantly made her way to the door. Putting it down again to fasten a hooded black cloak around her neck, she stared at Rob again. Keeping her eyes locked on his, she picked up the vial and pushed open the door. Pausing in the doorway, her eyes still focused on the Count, Raven gave him her last words before her departure, “Rob,” she said, a hint of worry in her voice, “Don’t die.” And with these two words, the Lady Raven assumed her animagus form and flew off into the sky.
