[[Continued from "The Shadows, the Sword, and the Return" in Drakborough and "Shadows, Count Off" in this board; Open]]
It was rather late (or early, depending on how one looked at it). Triangle Tunnel was asleep, for the most part. There were, of course, employees of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and the Triangle Tunnel Security Squad walking around, looking out for anything suspicious. They did not expect to find anything, though. Ever since Dominique Contessa's murderous rampage and the assassination attempt on Minister Plutus, the perhaps extreme measures of the Iberian Ministry of Magic had seen to it that such security mishaps were less likely to happen again. Guards walked the streets and charms were placed everywhere. Of all the places under magical protection, the most protected was the mansion that housed the Ministry of Magic.
No apparation allowed. Heavily controlled and monitored Floo Powder fireplaces. The outside of the building loaded with charms galore. Indeed, the Ministry building was almost impossible to get into. Almost.
Despite the charms of the Ministry, there were still shadows in the building. As the Shadow War revealed, these shadows could be magically manipulated by Count Scorpius to serve as portals-- rather like Floo Powder fireplaces themselves. It allowed the Lord of Shadows and his servants to move about easily and secretly. After a while of dealing with this, Talon Windwaltz, Lightning Mage extraordinaire, figured out a way to seal off these so-called Shadow Corridors in Firefox University; they were only forced open when several of Talon's pupils who were loyal to Count Scorpius reopened them so that the Battle of Firefox could begin. When the Count and his sword disappeared, however, these corridors were closed, resulting in a great many Shadows being cornered with no place to go, ending up in the dungeons of the Ministry of Magic.
And this is where our story begins...
The interior of the Ministry of Magic was silent. Most everyone had gone home for the night, save for the guards watching the dungeons and a pair of goblins standing guard at the front door. A member or two of the Black Forest Church were also probably milling about; that peculiar religious sect had odd habits, after all. Indeed, all was calm. The only unsettling thing was the fact that in the dungeons below, most of the raving lunatics formerly known as 'Shadows' were singing. It was dismissed by the guards as the tortured prisoners just going crazy.
One auror was leaning against a wall in a lower-security portion of the dungeons; this section held mostly those common criminals or people who had gotten a bit too loud in their opinions against the Ministry and were convicted of inciting rebellion. No one dangerous. Thus this auror, a wizard by the name of Lionel, relaxed against the cold stone of the walls, reading the latest edition of The Iberian Augur.
In a dark corner of the dungeon, a small crackling sound emitted. Lionel frowned, glancing up curiously, instinctively reaching for his wand. A dark mist seemed to form in the shadowy corner, little wisps of purple lightning zapping about. Suddenly two feet stepped out of the corner, belonging to a wizard in a dark black cloak with a mask on his face.
The mask of a member of the Society of Shadows.
"Merlin's beard," said the auror, shocked. "Stu-" he began too late.
"Avada Kedavra," hissed Daniel Black, Commander of the Shadow Knights. The auror fell to the ground, dead. Around the Ministry of Magic building, a small group of cloaked figures all began to step out of the shadows. In the main atrium of the building a large portrait of Minister Plutus magically hung in the air, casting a shadow down to the ground. From this area sprang a man without a mask on his face. A man whose face bore a malicious glint in his silver eyes. He began to laugh, the magically-enhanced, eery noise bouncing off the walls of the entire building, all the way down to the dungeons.
Below, Daniel Black pointed his wand at a wall. "Bombarda Maxima," he yelled, the stone and mortar blowing away, revealing the section of the prison where the Shadows and other high-level security threats were kept.
"Free your brethren from their chains! Return them to me," said Scorpius, his cold voice traveling through the building to the dungeons, where his Shadows were appearing.
One of the two goblins at the door to the atrium lunged at Scorpius with a sword, only to be thrown back with a flick of the dark lord's wand. "Avada Kedavra," hissed the Lord of Shadows, the goblin falling to the ground.
The other goblin used the time to dispatch the alert owls. Owls would go directly to Julius Plutus and Julian Forbes immediately, and another would head to Drakborough so that an auror there could alert Firefox of trouble at the Ministry. Scorpius narrowed his eyes as he witnessed this, pointing his wand at the goblin. The creature began to growl in pain, twitching on the ground as the Lord of Shadows walked towards him.
"Beg for death," whispered Scorpius, glaring down at the goblin.
"N-never," croaked the goblin, letting out a hoarse laugh despite the pain. "They know you are here. They will come."
"Let them," said the Count, slashing his wand through the air. A gash appeared in the goblin's throat, causing him to slowly bleed to death. Count Scorpius turned and walked towards the center of the atrium, raising his wand.
"Morsmordre Umbram," cried the dark lord. A light emitted from his wand, crashing through the glass ceiling of the atrium and flying to the top of the Triangle Tunnel. The green skull, a snake flowing through it with a scorpion atop its head, and the purple writing of Shadow Society around it, appeared above the tunnel for the first time since the Triangle Tunnel Massacre. Scorpius let out another bone-chilling laugh. "Let them come!"
