Screams were coming from everywhere. First the Dark Mark of the Shadow Society had filled the sky, forcing the poor people of the Triangle Tunnel to relive memories of disaster past. Then the hounds of Fenris Fenrir poured into the streets, devouring all who had the misfortune of getting in their way. But then something else appeared. Something worse.
Inferi.
The cursed undead were perhaps the greatest evil known in all of wizardom. In much of Europe merely impersonating an inferius was grounds for imprisonment in Azkaban. Not only were the creatures of pure evil so feared, but they were hated. To play with the dead was one of the greatest sins that a wizard could commit, and only the darkest, most disrespectful, and vile dark lords would dare to use an inferius. This is why Julius Plutus had come to the realization that Scorpius was not leading the assault on the tunnel this time. Never before in his reign of terror had the Lord of Shadows created an inferi army. Surely the wizard had the power and the reason to, but there was a line that he would not cross. This, of course, meant that others were acting, and Plutus was sure that it was the brute who had stood in for Windwaltz to release the students from prison: Azrael Jeremiah, the Angelus Morti.
Julius Plutus walked through the streets of the Triangle Tunnel, explosions and screams emanating around him as Shadows, Wolves, and Inferi caused trouble. The people of the tunnel were all fleeing. Chief Forbes had sounded the retreat.
"Go to Drakborough, go into the countryside, or go to FireFox! But I beg you, do not remain here..."
And they fled, not caring what they left behind. The only thing that could scare the people of Triangle Tunnel more than another massacre by Count Scorpius as an inferius in their doorway. They ran like rats fleeing a fire. They ran to Drakborough and Firefox. They disappeared into the small coves of homes that hid wizards throughout Iberia. They fled into the darkness.
The Interim Minister Plenipotentiary of the International Confederation of Wizards to Iberia walked about the Triangle Tunnel in a daze. He had lost everything. Plutus' adamance that Scorpius was dead had been disproved, destroying his credibility, and the Angelus Morti had seized the chaos caused by Scorpius to use his evil army to conquer the tunnel. Everything was falling apart and, once more, Talon Windwaltz was no where to be found.
His pale eyes wide, he could not seem to see the corpse of a witch and her child he stepped over. He folded his hands behind his back, in a daze, as the Triangle Tunnel fell to two dark lords and a lycan.
"Minister Plutus! Chief Forbes is going to try make a strike on Scorpius," said an auror running over to the minister, sent directly by Julian. "Do you have any orders for us, sir?"
Plutus stared ahead, watching a building get razed, unsure which faction was doing it. As the building fell and the smoke cleared, he could see mobs of people vanishing at the mouth of the tunnel and into open fireplaces.
"Minister Plutus... Sir? What do you want us to do?" the auror asked again, once more receiving no response. He glanced nervously over his shoulder as an inferius began spouting off about Lord Azrael. "Merlin's beard.... Minister, we need to retreat. The tunnel is lost. Sir! The tunnel is lost!"
Julius Plutus closed his eyes and collapsed to the ground. He had lost. The Ministry of Magic, abandoned by Firefox and the Spanish Familias, refusing to believe that Scorpius had returned, too trusting of Windwaltz and his allies, had fallen. Its remnants began to retreat to Drakborough with the citizens of the Triangle Tunnel. They would regroup and figure how to deal with Azrael Jeremiah, Fenris Fenrir, and Antares Scorpius.
The auror quickly grabbed the fallen Minister and ran towards an apparation area, leaving with him. While few cared for the man, letting him fall into the hands of one of the enemies would not be best right now.
Immediately afterwards, a patronus was dispatched to Forbes and the Black Forest Church, from Plutus' aide.
"Triangle Tunnel has fallen. Retreat. All forces retreat to Drakborough immediately and regroup. Fortify the village. Julian Forbes is given command."
Darkness had descended, and there was no light in the distance.
