The library had succumb to the earlier end of the days. The mass of shelves and books were weakly lit by the glow of fire from distant torches. The library was empty as far as Phugsius could tell anyway. Then again, in his current position he couldn't see much of the library. The Slytherin prefect sat surrounded by books a plenty. His head was buried in a Transfiguration textbook viciously absorbing as much text as his brain could muster and his hand was furiously scribbling down notes and spells in his almost cryptic paraphrased writing.
The months previous the Seventh Year had been falling behind in his schoolwork. There were the typical distractions: sports, deadly monsters attacking the school, friends (what few he had), his duties, and girls (well, one in particular). This was outside his elementalism which he had been working with rather consistently to hone and perfect. Progress was sluggish, despite his constant practice. It was difficult to say the least.
There was too much to do and not enough hours in the day. Phugsius pressed on however. He had to become a better wizard and perfect himself in that regard. He couldn't just give up on school and go save the world. That would be far too foolish for someone his age. He knew that and that is why he toiled.
Niobe had been with him through a lot of those months, also. She had almost fallen on the back-burner though with everything he had on his plate. He knew that and had told her his concerns and he promised he would make time for her soon enough. That promise might be hard to keep, however.
It hurt him to think how he had kept her waiting on that promise since she was still captivating and as enchanting as the first time they'd gone on a date, as much as it could be called a date. At this Phugsius sat back for a moment chewing on the end of his quill remembering how he had tried to teach her how to use a wand with little success. At this, a grin crossed his face.
Letting a few memories run through his head the prefect decided to take a short break to stretch his legs. He'd been hitting the books for hours. Pushing back his chair, Phugsius stood up and reached his arms toward the ceiling while he glanced out the library window towards the forest.
