The reddish orange of the sunlight lit the library. The Headmaster was present, alone but for the exception of one or two students who were in pursuit of things hardly academically related - magical solutions to facial acne or how to brew the few love potions that were not considered illegal. Not that it mattered anyway, considering Spain's lack of laws.
Talon wasn't there for the purpose of reading, either. The wizard was hunched over a piece of parchment, his small number two pencil - transfigured from a piece of wood now almost over ten years before - scribbling letters along it. Deep dark circles were under his sapphire eyes, and his skin was pale. To anyone with the proper suspicion, it would look as if the Headmaster had been transformed into a vampire. To anyone else, it was evident that Talon simply hadn't slept in a very long time.
The Headmaster hadn't bothered sleeping at all since the night in the Tower, where Rezna and he had severed their relationship. He hadn't seen her since - she most likely went back to her Hospital Wing and continued her duties, and he didn't think it was either right or proper to try and see her. She was done with him, he told himself, and nothing he could do could change that. Not that he didn't want to. Not that his heart ached like a cancer ate away from within. He hadn't even seen her in about a year - surely he'd assumed by this point that it was already over? But...they were just busy, he had told himself. Surely when they had gotten some free time?
He felt tears want to build up in his eyes, but he continued writing. He hadn't wanted to return to his office - the urge to sleep would be too tempting, but he didn't want to enter his dreams. He didn't want to be teased that the night had never happened. He needed to know that he was alone. So he continued writing in the library from that moment onward. He hadn't left in almost eighteen hours.
And it didn't look like he was going to stop anytime soon.
