It was about one o'clock in the morning and Echo was laying up in Ravenwood Tower, staring up at the star-filled night sky. She wasn't tired. She was fuming. Never in her whole life had she been this frustrated and flustered at one time. What was his problem!?
In her hand, clutching it into a crumpled mess, was a letter from her old boyfriend Luke. After a year, he decided to write and she was angry. Since Echo knew she wouldn't be getting any sleep, she hadn't even bothered to put on pajamas. She was laying on a big soft blue blanket with comfortable but cute jeans on and the adorable white, blue and brown tank top on. It wasn't sleepwear at all, but Echo didn't notice; she didn't even really notice how late it was.
She was just sitting there, hurt and angry, unsure of what to do with herself. "Where does he get the... the... the balls to write to me now?!" Echo yelled at the sky. Tears danced off her cheeks and landed on her blanket, a mixture of salt and mascara that left little black dots on it. It had hurt when Luke had never written to her, but this was just painful... why did he have to write to her?
"I did love you, it said. Who says that?!" She grumbled, opening up the crumpled letter once more to read over it. "I miss you, but I don't think I love you anymore. I'm sorry it took me so long to write... I wanted to make sure you had adjusted to your new school, see if there was a chance of you coming back." Echo laughed, a pained sound. "Yeah right, you were happy to see me go. Besides, if you wanted me to come back, you could have written!"
Her voice was hoarse, scratched up from yelling at the sky so much. Sitting up, Echo rested her head on her knees. Wiping her eyes, she rose from that position to look over the ledge of the tower. "I could jump, but he would enjoy that too much..." she mumbled, voice much quieter now. Echo's voice was raspy and it hurt a lot, but not as much as her heart did, so she didn't mind it in the slightest.
"I hate you," she whispered as her final good-bye, tearing the letter into little pieces and dropping it over the ledge. Echo them proceeded to shoot little streams of fire at the pieces from her wand, burning it up and letting it go. Forever.
Then she heard someone coming, and there was no way to fix the mess that she was before they entered...
