Dear Mother,
Everything here is going alright at Firefox. The journey was fine and uneventful and the driver was friendly. Things are really just starting up here at school so I don’t really have much to report in terms of the lessons. However I have yet to really improve my wand magic, though I practice often like you tell me. Hopefully by the end of this term I’ll be doing better and will make you proud.
I left some of my extra Potions books in the storage if you wouldn’t mind having them mail those to me. I know I should be spending more time on my wand work but if I don’t practice what I’m good at too I’ll never get better there. I’ll be most appreciate if you could do this.
Tell Dad I miss him, and I hope you two are both doing well on your next mission. I’ll write more when things pick up.
Love,
Niobe
P.S – I was sorted into Hufflepuff
The red head was finishing up the letter to her mother as she stood atop Ravenwood Tower one bright and sunny morning. In that light the freckles could be easily seen on her fair skin and her eyes were especially bright blue. Niobe’s handwriting was elegant and her signature ended with a flourish, though the post script at the bottom was rushed and crammed and she hoped that by adding it as such her mother wouldn’t get so upset. The woman was a pureblood from Slytherin who would have loved nothing more than for her daughter to follow in her footsteps.
Just as Niobe was finishing the letter and rolling it up a small brown flecked owl flew up to her hooting merrily. She smiled and held out her arm so he could land there. “Good Morning Apollo.” She said cheerfully, fixing the letter to the owl’s outstretched leg. It wasn’t an easy task to do one handed as her owl was quite energetic and found sitting still to be a boring chore he wasn’t the least bit interested in. However the long locks of red hair that fell down Niobe’s shoulder were quite interested.
As soon as she had the letter fixed she saved her hair from his beak and looked at him as sternly s she could. “Bring this letter to mother and I don’t suggest you stick around to wait for her to read it. If she wants to respond she’ll send her own owl.” Niobe’s mother didn’t have a temper, but it was better to be safe. Without waiting for Apollo to resume his playful antics she threw up her arm and watched him take flight into the sunny sky.
With a content sigh she leaned against the wall of the tower, watching him fly off. Now that she had written to her mother as she promised she would when she arrived there wasn’t much else to do.
