Sometimes, just sometimes, you must go against the wishes of others if it is for their greater good.
Muryllis was experiencing a sense of ease and comfort as he ran these words through his mind, pacing away from Roan to the crumpled body of Tobias. ..for their greater good.. Back at Nostri Magi, there were numerous kind professors; most prominent among these was an aged witch whose name Muryllis did not remember, for she had left the school before he turned ten. It was she who gave him lessons on spellcasting with a purpose similar to the strictness and secrecy of the rest of Nostri Magi magic, but with an execution so different that he would never forget the lessons. She had given him the ability to use magic with love and a soothing nature; like a lullaby. He had used that ability scarcely since then, but each time it had achieved a soothing effect, contrary to the suddenness and harsh reality that accompanied most other spells.
Placing a torn piece of cloth to Tobias's head, Muryllis aimed his wand, hidden behind robes, at Roan. Shutting his eyes once he was sure he was at an angle leaving him invisible to her, he began an incantation that gave sleep and soothed pain in an almost-natural way; sure, he was using magic on Roan, but it was magic shaped by care and love - she wouldn't feel a thing, save for her wounds subsiding before she finally gave way to sleep. There he sat, awaiting the final signs of her disconnection from reality.
If Muryllis thought he was being calming, then he had another thing coming to him. Roan wasnt some fool to know when a working was magical or not, and she knew when her body rebelled against her. She was worn out, she was stressed, she was panicking, but, above all, she would never fall asleep in a time like this. It was like some fog or a pillow was closing in on her head, cutting off her senses, making her more groggy. It was when she first yawned, which set off a coughing fit, that made her realize that something was amiss here. She couldnt tie it to Muryllis, she couldnt see his wand or anything, and to all appearances he was working on Tobias, but she could connect it to something messing with her. The reaction: panic.
"No no no no no, this isnt happening, this cant be happened, no!" She was whispered and then she yelled, her hands which had been protectively wrapped around her brusied chest went to her head and she shot up into a sitting position, her feet still bound to the ground by the Ravenclaw's spell. Instead of his magic soothing her or calming her, it was inciting panic as she fought off the unwanted sleep, shaking her head and rubbing her eyes, all the time muttering 'no' again and again, as if it would help her rid herself of these symptoms. She couldnt go to sleep, breathing was hard enough as it was when she had to concentrate on it, if she fell into a state without concious thought, she wouldnt be able to regulate it.
"What is going on!? Someone help me!" All thoughts of the lycan had fled her brain and it felt like a mist was closing in around her thoughts, cutting everything off, making her head continue to pound with a migraine and her chest continue to throb because of the bruising. She fought in her mind to stay awake, and ended up doing the best thing she could, she clasped her left arm in her right one and dug her fingers in, letting her nails from her right hand draw blood on the soft flesh and skin of her arm. The effect was perfect, she managed to concentrate on that and keep herself concious from her unseen attacker, keep herself from sinking under.
They just didnt get it, Muryllis most of all. He thought she wouldnt be able to tell it was magic being used on her, and yet she could. He thought magic for her own wellbeing was a good thing as well, it wasnt, it left her in a panicked state. Digging her nails in deeper, making blood run in small drops and streaks down her pale arms, she managed to lock herself in a position the sleep spell wouldnt be able to push her any furthur into, it was a feeling she would be able to hold for a while. "You cant do this to me, let me go. I cant go to sleep." She said quietly to her attacker, shaking her head and then resting it on her knees.
It wasn't very often Carrie was demanding, this being one of the very few instances. The brunette Nurse had been wondering how the three would deal with it, watching from around a corner and ready to intervene if need be, and that time seemed like she was needed. Running up to Roan, and bringing out her wand Accio calming drought Carrie cast silently, followed by Finite Incantatum. Hopefully any magic that had been cast on the Hufflepuff would be lifted.
Okay, the girl had set the Hospital Wing alight, but judging by the amount of panic that was spread across her features, Roan wouldn't be conscious for much longer if the panic attack continued. Placing a comforting arm around the brunette, Carrie told her in a soothing voice: "Just breathe, concentrate on breathing and nothing else, okay? You're going to be fine. I'm here now..." Though she knew all too well words wouldn't be enough.
Moments later, the added extra came along, the calming drought with the plastic beaker she always kept on top of it. Using magic to unscrew the bottle, Carrie explained: "I need you to drink this for me, Roan. It's a simple calming drought. It'll help your breathing and calm you down a little." Finishing pouring out a measure of the liquid, the nurse offered it to the girl in hopes she would take it.
Turning to face Muryllis, Carrie told him: "Can you take the other boy to the Hospital Wing and check if the smoke's gone before letting him in. If it is, place him on one of the beds, if not, then wait for me and Roan outside, got it?"
Oh thank goodness Carrie had stepped in, she would end all of this. Her voice held authority that Roan had never heard in her before, and she was for once ordering them to stop something rather then suggesting it. Roan still kept her nails dug into her arm when the nurse came over to her and was comforting to her, despite the damage she had caused in the Hospital Wing. It seemed duty came over anger when it came to the nurses here at Firefox, thankfully, or Roan would be going through this much much longer. She listened to her instructions and tried to follow them, focusing on her breathing, feeling the spell lifted from her mind.
Thankfully it was gone, but she still didnt remove her nails, letting the sharp pain hurt her arm and letting the blood seep down to the ground to mingle with Tobias's own. Her mind went to keeping her breathing constant, it was painful from the bruise, and she swore she was more bruised after they dropped her several times. Boys were so hamhanded with magic, never thinking about their affects afterwards. When she had that she just closed her eyes and waited for something else to be told to her. How could anything go wrong? Carrie was there now, a nurse who knew what she was doing.
Well, things could go wrong, because she was offering her a Calming Drought. That was magical and she shook her head at first, refusing the potion held out to her. "I cant, I cant. Thats magical." Her voice was quiet and shaky, but her head was pounding and her mind was screaming at her. She was very worried about falling asleep if she was even calmer, but, that was a risk she had to take. Shaking her head again she reached out and took the potion with her left hand, not bothering to remove her nails, needing the shock. She downed the potion in one painful gulp, and felt the effects.
It was like water had washed over her, her mind relaxed a bit and lost its grip on her. The pain wasnt so bad, and breathing was easier thankfully, she closed her eyes and dug deeper with her nails, a sharp intake of breath making her remember she was still awake. Dont go to sleep, that was her only goal. The potion was taken, what more could Carrie want?
If this is to end in fire Then we shall all burn together Watch the flames climb high into the night
To begin with, Carrie had panicked herself that Roan wouldn't take the potion, but a wave of relief washed over her as a shaky hand reached out and took the beaker, and moments later the contents were gone. Releasing a breath the brunette didn't know she was holding, Carrie smiled gently. There was step one out of the way, but more things needed charming over.
Accio cloth she whispered, careful to keep her tone down as to not frighten the girl with any more magic being done than neccessary. The gift which seemed to be a demon to Roan had done enough damage already. Moving her arm from around the Hufflepuff's shoulders, her hand moved to where sharp nails were digging into her arm, and gently removed Roan's hands from her arm and placed her palms on the stone floor. "I'm just going to use some water to slow down these cuts, okay?" Carrie told her, a firm yet gentle tone to her voice. The sentence may have been a question, yet there was something behind her words that pronounced no arguement was to be made.
Agumenti minor the nurse cast softly, her wand beginning to dribble out a small, slow stream of water onto the cloth she had summoned before. When it was dampened, the brunette put her wand back in her labcoat and split the cloth in half, one for each arm. "There.. is that helping a little?" Carrie asked, placing enough pressure on both arms to try and stop the bleeding. There was enough blood around as it was.
Noticing Tobais again, Episkey was cast almost silently on him to begin to heal his injuries before Muryllis took him away.
Turning back to the patient she was dealing with, a gently sigh escaped her. "You know.. I think you do a lot more damage to yourself than other people do to you, Miss Aliagh," Carrie confided, lifting the cloth pads up a little to see if it was working, before laying them back down again, "And definitely more damage than you realise."
Roan's frustration was building in her by the moment as the nurse just presumed it would be ok to remove her from the treatment she was doing to her arm to keep her awake. She didnt struggle, but took as deep a breath as she could without pain and rolled her eyes. The nurse didnt even wait for her ok on this one, and that bothered the Hufflepuff right now, because so far she had waited for Roan to give her consent if it would be alright to give treatment. Her respect for this nurse was dropping, and this was the one nurse in the school she trusted, and would keep away from the others ones until they proved differently.
Roan let out a deep hiss of a breath as water was applied to the cuts on her arm, that was more painful then she thought it would be, was Carrie insane? The girl took another deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment, trying to ignore the sharp throbs that came from that place on her arm. At least she wouldnt be falling asleep now, and wouldnt sink into that dangerous state. But still, she was disliking Carrie even more now. The nurse asked if it was helping, Roan remained silent in defiance, ready to lose her temper at any moment and just trying to remain calm. She should be down fighting Fenris Fenrir at that moment, not sitting in a hallway bleeding because some students just wouldnt let her go!
Roan had enough when Carrie spoke, and grumbled and gave a growl of sorts and took her arms out of the cloths and scooted herself away from the nurse as far as she could get with her feet rooted to the ground from Muryllis's spell. "I dont have to take you doing this to me Miss Carrie." She said angrily, glaring daggers at the nurse. Once she was out of her grasp and away from the wet cloths, Roan set to work on her own task. She had become quite adept at making her own bandages, especially in a sticky situation when she didnt want to go to the nurse. Using both her hands, it took a few moments, but she started a tear at the hem of her robes, and tore away at the cloth.
In a matter of about a minute she had two long pieces of black cloth each a couple of inches tall and the lencth of the hem of her robes. She bound these quickly and tightly around her arms, tieing them off as best she knew how into crude but effective bandages until she could get back to the Common Room and find the bandages she bought in town and wrap those around her arms. "The best way to get a patient to trust you isnt to insult them, and certainly isnt doing things without waiting for their consent. Im fine." She said sternly to the nurse, finishing tieing off one of the makeshift bandages.
Carrie stood up and took a step back as Roan declined the treatment she was offering. Thinking back as to what she had said a few moments before, the brunette tried to figure out exactly what it was that was so insulting. All she had done was explain the truth; the fingernail marks on the girl's arm was testimony to the fact Roan was doing a lot more damage to herself than was necessary.
Taking a calming breath and shaking her head, Carrie folded the cloths in her hand. "You're right, Miss Aliagh. You don't have to take what I'm offering you, and I don't have to take your attitude, but do you know what?" she explained, her voice still as calm as the sea after a storm: "I don't have to take your attitude, either. All I'm doing is trying to help you, Miss Aliagh, but if you'd rather go and hurt yourself more, then go ahead. There's nothing I can do to stop you."
Maybe she wouldn't get fired for the fire in the Hospital Wing. Maybe allowing a patient to leave her care without being fully healed would be the case.
"But if you go, I can guarentee you'll be back in the Hospital Wing within two hours, exhausted and needing treatment. Maybe then you'll let me help you, Miss Aliagh. Until then, go and do what it is you have to do and ignore the fact friends and staff at this school are trying to help. One day, you'll realise, and one day you'll actually let us help." Crossing her arms and not breaking eye contact with the Hufflepuff, Carrie waited for her to go. Her words were true; for now, there was nothing anyone could do to keep her away from the River.
