Walking into the Hospital Wing, trying to keep her chin up, Aether Shardae walked up to the nurse and asked if they could talk in private. Unfortunately, this little request was shot down because there was no apparent injury to the sixth-year Ravenclaw, and the nurse wanted to help quickly to get back to more needy students.
Suddenly flustered and embarrassed, Aether whispered something about Muggle contacts, and needing one. She wanted to know if the nurse had any? That were colored? Oh of course the nurse didn't have things like that! But Aether had to try... unfortunately, the nurse hadn't heard her clearly and Aether had to repeat herself louder.
"Contacts. They go in your eye... and can change the color. For some reason, color-charms don't work on my eye, because it's blind so they turn out... wrong..." Aether said. Her voice was still hushed, but someone could have easily overheard. And someone could give her the look of pity she so despised. Or tease her for the fact that, for some strange reason, she had a blind eye that magic wouldn't fix.
"Do you not have any? My mother forgot to send them... but they should be here by tomorrow," Aether explained. "My last few are either old or torn and I don't want people to stare, or know that I can't see!" She sighed, frustrated that she couldn't just see out of both eyes like other people. "Well... then can I stay in here until tomorrow? Pretend to be sick or something!?" Her voice was more flustered now, but the nurse said no.
She'd have to go part of the day with a blind eye for people to stare at, to whisper about... Aether just hoped no one heard her lamenting to the nurse.
