Talon found himself standing in the depths of a forest. The trees which grew up around him were enormous, rising hundreds of feet into the air, and the shadows that they cast upon the ground overlapped with one another. The land beneath the boughs was lit by a pale, unnatural light which didn't seem to be coming from any source in particular. The light and shadows played off each other, leaving everything in Talon's sight only black and white.
From somewhere far off, a hideous noise chilled Talon to the bone. The wizard could hear creatures barking and scratching around him, but they did not threaten him nearly so much as the mysterious sound. The wizard could hear rustling within the plants around him, and he suddenly broke into a run, trying his hardest to escape from whatever it was that had cried out. The noise sounded again, and Talon tried his hardest not to stumble and fall - so great was his fear of whatever this was. The sound began to articulate, and soon it sounded like it was trying to speak - though its language was none that Talon had ever heard. The creatures in the grass still yipped and cried, and he could hear their footsteps running alongside him.
For every step that Talon made, he could feel the monster behind him make ten more. That horrible cacophony drew so close that it rang in Talon's ears, making his blood run still and his legs felt ready to give out. The shadows began to multiply, and darkness enveloped him like the jaws of a beast closing upon its prey. But as quickly as the shadows devoured him, they curled away, and Talon felt strength and courage return to him. He turned his head to look upon the beast that had almost swallowed him whole, and saw that the shadows had all but gone away, and the dim white light was replaced by a warm, friendly one.
A blonde woman in a white robe stood there, and upon her head was a wreath of beautiful flowers as if they were a crown. Within her delicate hands she held shut the mighty jaws of a powerful, proud-looking Lion, which gazed up at her with fiery eyes filled with anger and fear. In the woman's eyes there was naught but determination, and the beast backed down before her will. Her gaze then turned to Talon, and as their eyes met Talon felt her strength radiating like the rays of the sun. Everything began to pass away then, as Talon felt the warm rays turn to hot, agonizing pain all across his body.
Talon groaned softly, opening his sapphire eyes to see sunlight coming through the windows into the Hospital Wing. It had been a few days since Roan had brought him here after the affair on Ravenwood Tower. 'Ravenwood Tower...oh, poor Aaron,' thought Talon to himself, realizing that the second tower for purposes of Astronomy at Firefox now lay in ruins. If the Headmaster hadn't survived his terrible burn wounds, he wondered, would the next tower to serve that purpose have been named for him? A dark thought, he decided, as he stared up at the ceiling above him.
Despite his courageous attempts at remaining conscious that first night, the past few days had been mostly spent passing between conscious and unconscious. His memories of the past few days were morning turning into afternoon and then night all within what seemed a span of seconds, and brief flashes of Rezna and Leseur muttering to one another. On occasion, his head would rack with agony, and that usually signaled another passing into unconsciousness. Now, however, it seemed that his head injury was all but gone. The searing pain that would rip through his head was now replaced with a stinging annoyance. His burn wounds, however, were still just as painful as ever.
It was a good sign, as terrible burns often destroyed nerve endings, and the fact that he could even feel pain showed that he was on his way to recovery. It seemed it wouldn't be too long until Talon Windwaltz was back in his office again, huddled over more paperwork. Yet, and it was a strange feeling, Talon really had no desire to go back to his office or to work on any paperwork. Would it be so strange to put the work aside for a day, and instead get out his broom - oh that broom he hadn't touched in years - and maybe go for a fly?
Despite the excruciating pain of his burns, Talon couldn't help but smile to himself. Things could've been much worse. He looked around the room - was Rezna here, he wondered? Perhaps Leseur was the only one present, in which case Talon would have to thank him for his part in aiding the Headmaster's recovery. What had become of Roan? Suddenly, the strong feeling of freedom that had burned within him was replaced by a feeling of being trapped by the burns without him.DERP!
