It was in these moments, awkwardly walking up the stairs next to someone who was suffering from the severe results of a mind-shattering curse, that Talon wished he could apparate. He wouldn't have had to put up with the fifteen minute walk from the Greenhouses up to the Hospital Wing, and the glances he had to give Novus every twenty seconds or so just to make sure he was still there.
Just a 'crack' and bam! Talon would shout for the Nurse heroically, and turning to the person to calm them as his beloved Rezna would come running to them with the cure. Instead, any attempt at a heroic entrance was dashed by the growing level of panic in the Headmaster's stomach. Every minute up to the door of the Hospital Wing was another moment in which, and he hated to think it about a friend, he could be letting a very dangerous psychopath into the school.
It wasn't Novus's fault. He knew that. But what if he were under the effects of an imperius curse? That was why Talon couldn't help but continuously check to see if Novus was still with him. By the time he actually did reach the Hospital Wing, the heroic entrance was replaced by another quick glance at Novus, and then poking his head around for the nurse.
"Rezna?" He said with his voice slightly raised, "are you here? I have someone with me who needs your help."

... it was so dark she could not see where she was going... her chest heaved with sobs as she chased after the young boy into the depth of the woods... his blonde hair bounced lightly on his head as he stayed just steps ahead of her... try as she might she could not run fast enough to catch up to him... ahead of them, two red eyes glowed in the darkness... she tried to yell a warning to the boy but she couldn't speak... the red eyed monster grew larger as they drew nearer... his white teeth glowed in the moonlight... saliva dripped from his large open mouth... the boy turned to look at her with his large blue eyes... he smiled and called out to her just as the lycan pounced...
The boy's voice still sounded in her head as the witch jerked awake from a particularly vivid nightmare. Breathing heavily, the nurse cast a sleepy glance about her surroundings. Everything was back to normal. She wasn't in the woods, and there were no children or lycans about. It was just a horrible, horrible dream. Just a figment of her imagination. Completely unreal... accept for the boy, that beautiful little boy. Try as she might, she couldn't remember who he was, but something about him just seemed so familiar.
With a groan, Rezna pushed herself to a sitting position in the chair, and as she did a book clattered to the ground. Her body really couldn't go without real sleep much longer. With the winter season upon them, the nurse had stayed up for three consecutive nights watching after sick students. Finally the last of them had gone back to the Hufflepuff dormitory after lunch, so Rezna had allowed herselft to sit down for a quick spell and maybe distract herself with a chapter from her book. Instead of reading, she must have ended up falling asleep instead, Rezna realized as her senses slowly regained their functions.
How irresponsible! The witch admonished herself severly as she fixed her robes and marched out of her office, determined to put as much space between her bed and herself as possible. She had a job to do, after all! What if there was a student in the Hospital Wing in that very moment, facing memory loss, bleeding, or perhaps lying lifeless on a bed from a spell gone wrong, waiting for help that was too busy napping!
Pushing open the double doors, Rezna Lardale marched into the main room of the Hospital Wing only to come to a sudden halt when she noticed she wasn't alone. With the last wisps of dream still muddling her brain, the nurse had to blink a few times before the shock settled into reality. Unable to stifle a gasp of surprise, Rezna's gaze flickered between the Headmaster's pale, panicked form standing in the middle of the room and the drawn face of the younger man that accompanied him.
Quickly collecting herself and crossing the room in a few, quick strides, witch couldn't help but wonder why it was that she and Talon always met under such austere circumstances, and why the students he brought with him were either plagued by demons or were missing limbs due to Dark magic. This young man didn't seem to fit either description, but perhaps Rezna was about to deal with something far worse.
"What happened?" the witch demanded when she finally reached Talon's side. 1960

The fifteen minute walk to the hospital was painful for Novus. The castle was a large, ornate structure with many statues and reliefs which cast large shadows in their corners and on the stone floors. In those shadows Novus could see his other history here. He saw blood and fire and deaths. He saw students being killed under his command, under his hand. He also saw the construction of the palace, as well, and the red eyes that always followed him.
He could tell that the headmaster was beginning to regret his decision. He was throwing glances at Novus frequently, either just to make certain that the boy was still there or to make sure he wasn't transformed into a monster. At the moment, Novus had to wonder that about himself. His mind seemed to play host to several thousand years of incongruent history.
Once in the hospital proper, Novus' eyes were drawn to a shadow cast by a large column. In the shadow he saw a red-headed girl constrained to a chair in this very room, and he was stealing even her memories. He didn't have her memories now, yet he knew that some part of him, somewhere out there, still had them.
Was that part of him out there, or was it inside of him? Who was he? Novus set his blue eyes on the headmaster's own.
"Headmaster," he said, "what do you know? You must know something? Please help me. Tell me what's happening. Tell her what's happening. Fix this."

As Rezna charged into the room ready to heal the students with the same amount of confidence as Talon possessed in protecting them, the Headmaster likewise felt a little strange at the fact that their meetings had become limited to this. When was the last time Talon had spent any time alone with his girlfriend? His birthday? Her birthday had come and gone since then, and the Headmaster's business (and no doubt the Nurse's as well) had prevented even a celebration.
Talon felt himself too absorbed in considering whether it was about time the two of them had some alone time that he almost forgot the reason he had come here in the first place until Novus spoke up. "I can't say for sure, but I believe Novus here has suffered a botched Imperius Curse. He seems to be showing signs of extreme and sudden alienation from his own personality and is so filled with guilt he asked me to kill him...which I can only imagine means whatever is mentally interfering with him wasn't exactly the nicest person."
The Headmaster looked at Novus for a moment, and then said, "I ruled out possession, but you'd know better than me, Rezna."

The nurse's gaze settled on Novus when he finally spoke up. She watched the younger man gaze about him and react to things that weren't there. All that stood in the corner of the room, near a pillar, was nothing more than a simple, wooden chair. Still the boy's facial expression turned to horror when he saw it.
A worried frown spread across Rezna's face as she turned from Novus to gaze at Talon. The tall, blonde man gazed at her expectantly, and the nurse saw the hope behind his sapphire eyes. No doubt the Headmaster expected some magic potion to sore into her outstretched hand that would fix everything. But Rezna had no such simple solution. She had never dealt with anything like this before. And no one was more disappointed with that realization than Rezna herself.
"Please, sit down, both of you," she finally addressed the men, her voice soft and faraway. Absentmindedly, Rezna pulled out her wand and three plush armchairs appeared in the middle of the Hospital Wing. She didn't expect any more visitors that night, and the matter she now faced was too delicate to be treated lightly. "Tea? Coffee?" With another wave of her wand two steaming pots and three cups on saucers appeared on a miniature coffee table in the center of the circle of chairs.
With a soft smile, Rezna sank into the nearest chair and motioned for the men to do the same.
"From what I've seen, Novus is not suffereing from any sort of botched Imperius Curse. If what you say is true, Talon, then guilt is the last emotion the victim would experience. The trance-like state that accompanies the Imperius Curse banishes all feelings of responsibility and anxiety. This allows for the caster to make his victims commit any crimes necessary. Even a poorly cast Curse would not allow for the victim to beg for death. I can't rule out possession, but this seems to be something different," the nurse mused aloud.
Again, her emerald gaze locked on Novus's unfocused eyes. For a long while the witch watched the young man, the lines on her forehead growing deeper with every minute. After many painful seconds passed, Rezna turned away from the boy and reached for a cup of tea. She dank the whole cup in one go, and when she set it down a steel look of resignation outlined the dark lines on her face.
"I don't know what is wrong with you, Novus," the blonde haired woman said with a sigh. "But ruling out what it cannot be is a start."
Another long sign escaped her chest. The nurse was weak, mentally and physically. Long work hours had taken a toll on her in more ways than she ever expected. But none of that was a good enough excuse for not trying everything in her power to help Novus now, before his confusion made him mistake the subconscious world for the real one. The problem was, the plan she had in mind did not guarentee that she would be able to do so herself.
"Novus, until I know what you're seeing, I can't be sure of how to help you. If I know of a way, would you be willing to let me into your mind, so that I can see what you're seeing? I promise, you won't suffer alone, and together we can find a way to fix this," the witch told the young man with a confident, encouraging smile that fell short of her eyes.

For a moment, Novus felt calm. There were two people in the room totally engrossed in him, allowing him to focus his attention solely on those two people. Especially the woman, Rezna. He had no memories of her, not even ones that were someone else's. Just standing in the room, focused on her, he could calm down.
But once he sat down that all changed. He felt the soft chair underneath him, then he felt that change. He was reminded of cold stone and moldy wood. In the back of his mind, in his very subconscious, he recalled a chair made of bones. No, a throne. A seat of power. Human bones. He tried to remain calm while Rezna spoke to him, but the fear was apparent in his eyes. Finally, he could take it no longer and stood up again. He began to pace around the chairs in a counter-clockwise circle, closely examining his own hands.
"No, you don't want in here," he said, referring to his own mind, "You don't want to see these things. I don't trust my own mind anymore. It's not that there's someone else in there, no, it's that I'm someone else now. I'm seeing things and feeling things that I remember but I don't remember. I am but I am not, do you understand? I'm nineteen years old, and I'm 3 years old, and I'm thousands of years old, all at once."
There were three sets of memories in Novus' head, sometimes overlapping and sometimes on their own. He could remember a childhood, though long ago and blurry in his own mind, where he lived in a hot place with sand and big rivers and a large temple. He remembered the pain of the desert. He remembered the suffering of a long drought. He remembered desperation.
And then those red eyes. Thousands of years of red eyes.
"Please," he said, kneeling now at Talon's feet, "just kill me. End this. Let me find some peace."

Not an imperius curse? Instead of taking a seat, Talon leaned on a hand placed on the back of the chair Rezna had offered him. The Headmaster found himself lost in his thoughts. Surely he'd read something that would help? Healing magic was never at the foremost of his study, but he was well aware of many forms of dark magic - not, of course, that he'd ever use said skills, but one must know their enemy.
The nurse was right. The imperius curse, a form of powerful hypnotic domination, was meant to soothe the victim. Still, this wasn't just a casual mental crisis. Unless Novus had suffered some kind of physical trauma that had caused this, he was being affected by something supernatural. Talon still doubted possession was in play, as whatever was controlling him wouldn't allow him to speak this much, but he couldn't rule out this being a matter of post-possession.
Perhaps he was recovering from the result of a possession?
The Headmaster snapped out of his thoughts as the other wizard stopped pacing around and landed in front of him begging for death once again. "I'm not going to kill you, Novus," Talon said seriously, "I am going to fix you. Now I might have an idea of what's troubling you, but you are going to have to let either Rezna or myself into those memories of yours. You cannot do this alone..."
The Headmaster looked to Rezna, concern etched across his face, "...because this is beginning to remind me more and more of the effects of horcruxes."
