Protégé had done a lot of strange things in the past, very dangerous and risky things. He had fought in the war against the Shadows. He had gone into Fenrir's wood to meet with the great wolf. He had traveled with nothing more than the clothes on his back and his wits to protect him. He had even once committed the incredibly dangerous act of kissing Ms. Monolayre. However, none of these things stood on par with what he was about to do: teach.
He was still slightly unprepared for this. Having not expected to find a teaching job here, and picking it up slightly later than usual, he hadn't had time to think of books or subjects yet. However, he had to teach, so he had to think quick of something to do. Well, how about get to know the students, find out their skills, and see what they want to learn?
It was that idea that had him ready for this class. All the desks in the room were neatly lined up, with ink and parchment at each table, just so students couldn't use the excuse of not bringing any to get out of work. Light poured in from windows on the side of the room, removing the need for any other lighting for now. Protégé's desk sat at the head of the room, simply adorned, with nothing more on it than a few book ideas he had been considering and a rock.
Having the room set up to his specifications, he wrote on the board some questions for students:
1. Name:
2. Year:
3. House:
4. How much experience do you have with Transfiguration?
5. What is your focus, goals, or plans with transfiguration?
6. Is there anything in particular you want me to cover?
7. Rank these things in order, from easiest to hardest to transfigure, in your opinion:
Rock, Dead animal, Water in a moving river, burning wood, yourself (into a completely different thing, not just some small detail)
Satisfied with the questions, he went back behind his desk and rested his feet on the surface, leaning back in his chair. Once students arrived (OOC: Yeah, I'm speaking a bit of the future, but how else am I supposed to do this?), he said, "Alright everyone, I'm your professor. Name's Protégé Seapplek, but don't worry about my last name, I don't use it. Today's gonna be an easy day, just answer those questions and turn it in for me. If you have any comments, concerns, or questions, don't hesitate to ask."
Finished with his small speech, he began to relax and just watch the students. Even simple periods of observation like this could reveal a lot about people, and he didn't want to miss anything.
(OOC: Sorry if this post is rather long. I assure you, later posts starting classes will be much more to the point. This will remain open until noon, August 10th, Eastern Standard time. Next class should be up within a week or two of that.)
