Niobe smiled when Phugsius went and put an arm around her, but it wasn’t the beaming smile she usually gave him. It wasn’t that she didn’t like him, it was just that this was her favorite class and she needed to focus on it to do her best and make a good first impression. Sitting next to the Slytherin was fine, but if he wanted them both to succeed here then he needed to keep his hands to himself. She didn’t talk to him about it though, just waited for the Professor to come into class. He was late, and she wrinkled her nose a bit in distaste at a tardy Professor. At least he couldn’t yell at anyone else who came in late if he did it himself. Not only that but he seemed totally scatterbrained.
The Hufflepuff sighed a bit to herself. The class she wanted the most was going to be taught by this man. Wonderful. With the assignment on the board she gave a smile to Phugsius before totally engrossing herself in her work. Potions came very naturally to Niobe and so each ingredient was cut with precision and put in at the right time under her very focused blue eyes.
As to the change in the solution, she had made that thought before she even started. Some students may not really know what they’re doing, but she had considered the items before her and what effects they would theoretically have on the potion. A shrinking solution was something she had made under her mother’s eye before several times, it was not as difficult as some potions could be and the ingredients weren’t as volatile as others.
In the end she came to the decision she was going to add three counter-clockwise turns after adding in the rat spleen. On the edge of the parchment in front of her she scribbled down the change before she made it. The potion she had been making until that time had been perfect down to the shade and temperature of the solution. Steady hands added the caterpillars and then the rat spleen before she added the counter-clockwise turns. The solution had already turned green from the spleen, and with each turn it went even brighter into that eye smarting shade of neon green.
Satisfied with herself she finished off the potion, bottled it, and got to work on her paragraphs.

The change I chose to make was to add three counter clockwise turns after adding in the rat spleen. I chose to do this to help the rat spleen be absorbed properly by the potion before I turned off the heat. The stirring helped to break it down and distribute the ingredient more. I was met with favorable results as I got a very bright acid green upon finishing with that change which leads me to believe I was successful. Looking at the potion now it retains that color, and a simple test would prove whether or not the addition was helpful. I would recommend doing it again based on what I see.
Done with her paragraph the girl sat back and inspected the potion in her cauldron, very satisfied with this shrinking solution. If this was what Potions class was going to be like from now on then she was going to do very well.
Excellent. You show aptitude for potions. I can see that you put in actual thought before choosing your alteration. You also seem to have a strong background in the subject. 10 points + 2 points.
