Sparky blinked.
Pretty?
His name was... pretty?
He felt a small blush rise at the unexpected, really weird compliment. His name was a dog's name. Not a name for a professor. He really needed to start introducing himself as like, Professor Cobalt, or even Professor X or something. Really. No one was going to take him seriously if his name was Sparky.
No one but this girl, anyway.
"I, uh, thanks..."
It was just so unexpected.
She looked so happy to be given a second chance, though, and he felt his own heart warm up a little. You know, that feeling you get when something you say makes someone else happy? That's always nice, but for Sparky it was a rare occurance, given he didn't talk to people most of the time.
"Ye-yes, of course!" She was so enthusiastic! Why couldn't all his students be happy? Instead he got half-foxes and stuff.
"Uh, here." He held out a blank piece of parchment and a spare quill. He figured the ink left in the desks would suffice. "Just, um, sit down and write down three things you, uh, would like to ask a Muggle?"
Normally he would've briefed her on the information gained during class, but next time they all met he was going to pass out a 'syllabus' of sorts. He figured she'd be fine. Unless he decided to do some random pop quiz or something. On the second day.
He tried to smile at the girl, but was worried it looked more pained than reassuring.

Smiling beatifically at the Professor's reaction, Lorraine absently accepted the offered parchment and quill. "Okay," she agreed blithely, seeming to interpret the awkward grimace on Sparky's face as congenial. The girl deposited her belongings at a recently vacated desk, distractedly tapping her newly acquired quill on the table. Three things to ask a Muggle? She frowned, somewhat puzzled as to what to write. Being the child of two Squibs determinedly turned Muggle, there were quite a few things in their lifestyle Lorraine vaguely realized weren't quite normal for either Muggles nor Wizards. Everyone displayed their collection of utensils on hallway walls, right? Did everyone hold regular tea parties in the bathtub? It was normal to occasionally converse with relatives via fireplace, wasn't it? Were ice cream men common summer occurrences for everyone? Distractedly chewing a vitreous strand of hair, Lorraine sunk her quill into an inkwell and wrote the following in a ponderous, blotted cursive.
Lorraine Cunningham, Hufflepuff, 1st year Mr. Sparky Thunderstorm
What's your favorite cereal? I like the ones with all the pretty colors. What's your favorite part of the bathroom? I like the Sink the most, I used to keep all my friends in there until Mr. Froggy ate them all. Mr. Froggy was yellow. Does the Ice Cream Man come visit you a lot too?
Mildly impressed with how many splotches she had managed to strew across such a small area of parchment, Lorraine delicately peeled the dripping assignment off the table to give to Sparky. "I'm done," she said, placidly noting how the ink slid slowly down the page.

Sparky took the assignment, feeling ink start to slowly stain his hands a nice octopus black. Thinking about it, ink and quill was such an outdated way to do things. He thought about it, and thought it might be fitting if the class was introduced to, say, ballpoint pen or perhaps sharpies next period. Though, sometimes he didn't know why witches/wizards didn't just use their wands to write. It worked, didn't it? People wrote using their wands all the time, except when they actually had to write. Ponderlicious.
Anyway, he glanced at the paper--did that say 'Sparky Thunderstorm? Quite curious--and placed it on top of the others, immediately blotting ink on a few of the other top pages.
"Thank you.. That's about it, really. You just, um, needa show up for next class, okay? It won't, uh, be as easy to make up, I th-think."
He brought one inky hand up and scratched at the back of his head, unknowingly getting ink in his hair. "But, uh, yeah... I'll, see you next class, Lorraine?" It was in a question form, but he didn't know why. She seemed enthusiastic enough. He didn't mean to like, dismiss her, or anything, but he was awkward around people as it was. Plus, he had to go through the papers on his desk before his next class.

"Okay," Lorraine agreed distractedly, delightedly watching Sparky dye part of his hair black. "I think I can maybe make it to Muggle Studies tomorrow." She began gathering her scattered belongings, absently shoving loose papers into seemingly random books. The girl picked up the borrowed quill and held it out waveringly to the Professor. "Oh, and here's your quill. Thanks for lending it to me, Mr. Sparky. I think I put all mine in my socks when I was packing the other day." After poking one last rogue paper into an overstuffed book, Lorraine tugged out her crumpled schedule, seeming to have trouble reading her own handwriting. "Oh. Lunch. How nice." She smiled dreamily, excited at the prospect. "I'll see you tomorrow then, Mr. Professor." The blonde edged spidery fingers under her books, staggering under the meager weight of two and a half books, and meandered torpidly out the door.

Ryo shot back a cold look, "Understandable. I don't know what you went through, but I can't imagine is was anything good. As far as what I know, well, I know what I saw and what little made sense of the smells. I saw the headmaster... it was to slow to be apperation which isn't possible in the school anyway. I don't know what you guys did. There was a lot of talking about things I didn't understand. Some lampshade or shading or something. And the burning... It burnt my lungs like silver... but, that doesn't make any sense. Felix was out cold and there was some girl with a really bad temper there. What happened to you guys?"

Sparky took the shaking, ink-covered quill, blinking in wonder. Her socks? Why were the quills in her socks? What if she forgot to take them out and put her socks on? And then she'd have feathers stuck in her feet. Pointy feathers. He looked up from the quill back up to Lorraine.
Mister Sparky?
That felt... weird on the mental tongue. Then again, the 'mental tongue' was weird in itself. He didn't think of himself as a Mister, not yet. It was too soon. He was practically still a child! But... The thought left a strange, odd, warm feeling in him. It was like being... not powerful, per se, but rather... respected?
It was new.
"I, uh... I'll see you too, Lorraine..."
What an odd girl.
Sparky held the ink-covered quill up for a second, gazing at it with some thought behind his eyes.
A vague smile on his face, he slowly, quietly tucked the quill into his pocket, gathered up his papers, and left the classroom.
He was gaining no brownie points by looking at her like that. Willow quirked a brow and resisted the urge to ask him what the hell his problem was.
No. She could be a good kid. Willow just stared back at him, waiting. She didn't really understand why it was his business, but he cared enought to ask, so...
"I am a lycan. Which you obviously know. But I have connections beyond my race, to a vampire. He has enemies." She paused. "One of them is trying to hurt him by hurting those close to him. Felix and I were near the woods, discussing my vampire friend. An ally to the man who wanted Romulus hurt overheard, and he captured us. Felix tried to tell the man that he was the vampire's....well. Something. Anyway."
The lycan's eyes flickered. "The man allowed us to ask him one question, and then he asked one. Felix lied to him. As punishment, I was to either turn Felix into a lycan or eat him, allow this man, who is really a Shade, to kill Felix. Or I was to allow the Shade to kill my vampire friend."
"I tried to reason with him. He could sense that someone was coming, and he slashes Felix with a spell. Felix had recently ingested a silver potion that made his blood toxic to vampires and lycans. The man threw Felix into me, and Felix's blood scarred me. As a message and a warning to others, he paralyzed me, and wrote a name in blood on my stomach. It was killing me."
The memory of the pain flooded her mind, and she rubbed her arm. "Fortunately, two were looking for us. Professor Windwaltz, and one of my packmakes Roan. They ran into another Shade, who agreed to help them reach us. Apparently the first Shade, my captor, had created an alternate dimension or something. Roan, Talon and this other shade found us and ported us out. Roan noticed the silver, and they removed it, but it scarred me."
She sighed. "That's all there really is too it." Her eyes sharpened. The young lycan shed her robe and held out her left arm. The ripping marks left by the silver were almost white, sharply contrasting against her tanned skin. She slipped back into the robe and let her arm drop to her side. "Why do you want to know?"

Ryo was fascinated by her story. So much made sense. Although, he wasn't entirely sure who this Romulus was or what a Shade was. Lucky for him, it was likely the library would probably have at least something of an answer. The silver burns made the boy involuntarily wince. A few moments later, Willow asked him a question that took him by surprise. He had to think on it for a bit. One thing was certain, he had better think fast otherwise he would get an unwilling test of strength vs. magic.
"Well, I know is doesn't directly concern me but I figure that a threat big enough to get the headmaster's attention is probably a threat to the whole school. Maybe even all of Spain. I may not be very well trained in magic yet, but I don't want to sit uselessly on the sidelines as evil people try to take over the world. Perhaps more directly, I have talked to Felix a few times and while he can rub me the wrong way a bit I'd like to think of him as a friend and he was there so I am asking for the sake of what happened to him as well as you."
Trying to lighten the mood a little the snake added with a smirk, "Silver blood? Oh my, that Felix will try anything at least once I bet. Speaking of him, where is he?"

ooc- Whoops, hadn't meant to say Rommie's name aloud....aw well.
bic- The young lycan was slightly taken aback by his response. He seemed to genuinely care, if not for her than for Felix. It was odd. She had met him today. Willow got a slight satisfaction when he winced. Oops. Had she said Romulus's name aloud?
She scanned her memory.
Yep.
Oh hell, she didn't care. "It doesn't involve the school too much yet. I wouldn't worry about it, Ryo." She shrugged. "I'm leaving, I'm not getting anymore students in trouble because of my problems. I just wanted to see everyone before I leave."
A pained smile reached her face. "It might be best to say you haven't seen me, if anybody asks. Better yet, say you don't know who I am." The lycan turned away, taking a few steps away from the slytherin. "I'm not Felix's keeper. I'm sure he's off getting into trouble or something. Don't worry about him either, he can handle himself."
Post by Ryoko Kanagawa on Aug 21, 2009 0:08:06 GMT -5
Ryo gave the lycan an understanding bow. "I understand and I hope you're right." Watching her turn to go he quickly added, "Be safe and I hope Felix doesn't do anything too stupid."
Given the circumstance the boy was happy with the meeting. She hadn't tried to kill him and he gained a good bit of information. He desperately hoped He-who-is-not-named would not amass the kind of power He-who-must-not-be-named was said to have when we tried to rule over Europe all those years ago.

No one seemed to have noticed the sixteen year old Slytherin prefect still fiddling with the projector as class ended. He just found it so amusing.... Trying to figure out how it worked was so.... fascinating. He could not stay, however, he had more important things to worry about. With another intrigued glance he left the prjector and all it's mysteries behind.
As he exited the class room his eyes caught Willow and Ryo speaking. Willlow seemed to hurriedly leave the area after their conversation finished. With a few quick strides and an easy going grin he approached Ryo. "Hello there, Ryo. How are you?" His emerald eyes gazed at the fox boy. "I couldn't help noticing Ryo, and this might be old news, but you seem to have fox ears sticking out of your head"

Ashelle was furious. She had waited till after class to see if Sparky would be nicer once all the other students were gone. She hadn't done the assignment purposely so he would ask her why she hadn't . . . not that she had any questions for any muggles, but she could have easily made some up if he'd just come over and asked her . . .
"OOOOOOOOoooooooo!!!" She slammed her book bag on the ground making the cage on the her desk jump, but not fall. The two mice inside squeaked worriedly, which made her remember, now she had to return them. Her Mice, how DARE he think she'd buy MICE for a pet! Great Uncle Ian had a snake collection! Why would SHE want MICE!?
She wanted to do something, something terrible to ruin this class. However, she couldn't she was Head Girl after all. But she had to do something. Just leaving wouldn't send any message at all to that pompous so called professor. Then an idea struck like lighting. She released the kid in the back whom Sparky had forgotten about and helped him up.
"You'll want to hurry along to your next class, I am Head Girl you know, you don't want to get into trouble with me or your next teacher." When the boy had gathered his things and left Ashelle grabbed her bag forcefully and the cage gently and left the room. However, once she'd closed the door behind her she put her things on the ground whipped out her wand and performed every single locking Charm she knew.
She used a cementing charm on the cracks around the door edge she performed three locking charms one she'd learned in the library and two her Triad cousins had taught her. She cursed the door to only open when she was present, when she laughed and only if she spoke a certain word in Parseltongue. Lastly she put two sealing spells on it and cast one very powerful shield charm so no one could come near it.
"That will teach him to disrespect me! If it's another fight he wants it's another fight he'll have!" And taking the mice and her bag from the floor she marched off to the library to study and write her letter of challenge. There was going to be a rematch, this time thing were going to go a lot differently.

A slew of locking charms and curses abruptly interrupted Phugsius and Ryo's conversation. Phugsius watched as Ashelle spat out a boat load of locking charms and.... some odd snake-like noises. Instead of awaiting Ryo's response he began striding over to Ashelle quite curiously. As he got closer he saw it was the professor's door she was bombarding with spells. He spoke more out of curiosity than anything. "Excuse me Ashelle, but what exactly are you doing to the professors door, and why?" He eyed the head girl his emerald eyes gazed at the girl suspiciously. Noticing the mice at her feet.

Suddenly Ryo was bound. He didn't know how it happened, it just did. All he knew was Phugs asked him something... what was it again? He had been lost in the wealth of information he had obtained.
"Huh? Oh hi Ash. You never did teach me that magic you know. Heh."
He then moved his eyes to Phugs, "Did you say something? I was a little spaced out."
