Amira watched as the professor unfroze the students. The Hufflepuffs shaking had finally died down. The professor told them to write down three serious questions as their assignment.
1. Why do muggles have Halloween? 2. What do pliers do? 3. How do magicians do magic?
I hope these would be considered serious questions, Amira thought to herself.

Toby had been shocked when the professor had frozen and silenced the class. And then, while he was moving them around, he stuck Toby into the back corner where he could not be well seen and were all he could see was the floor. The professor had left him face down, with his rear end bent up into the air. He lay there still and silent as class progressed...without him.
Not that he really needed this class, being muggle born, but he was starting to worry that he'd be left here. Already, he could tell from the sounds of quills scratching on parchment that the rest of the class had gotten some sort of assignment (the professor's voice was very muffled, as one of his ears was smushed into the cheep carpeting, and he had been scratching his head when he was frozen, leaving his forearm over his other ear.
And worst of all, his head still itched.
Toby wondered, in vain, what was going on now. Would he really be left frozen in the corner? For how long? Could he starve to death like this? Would anyone even notice that he wasn't around anymore? A spider approached him, as if in sympathy of his predicament. Toby hated spiders. The little arachnid crawled up his sleeve, tickling him. He wanted to scream, to shake it out, but he couldn't do either. He just hoped it wouldn't bite him...
Vlad paid little attention in class. He didn't care about this crap. When they were forced to come up with three questions to ask a muggle, he had a bright idea. There was this one muggle movie he really liked...

1. What is your name?
2. What is your quest?
3. What is the average air speed velocity of a swallow?

Sparky watched, and, satisfied that everyone had finished working, flicked his wand once more, bringing the papers in a mass rustle to his desk. He nodded towards the hufflepuff girl, and then spoke to his class.
"Uh, well, that's all for today. I'll see all of you next week. We'll be having a full class, so be, um, prepared for a full lesson. Bring quills, parchment, and one thing you own, that uh, was made by a muggle. If you don't have anything... well, we'll worry about that next class. Well, um. Class dismissed?"
And with that he turned his attention to the girl who'd wandered in late, stepping closer to her as his students filtered out of the room. "Well... Where do you need to be? I'll be.. happy to help you."

As students began approaching the door, Lorraine made an unsuccessful effort to merge with the wall and found herself, instead, almost jostled out the door. She made a quiet squeak of consternation and plastered herself somewhat more resolutely against the wall, waiting out the stronger surge of students.
When the strongest wave of people had passed, the slight girl edged sluggishly through, offering vague apologies each time she inadvertently dug a sharp elbow into an unfortunate stomach. By the time she got through, the ill-fated parchment in her hands was little more than a crushed ball of creases. "Hello," Lorraine greeted serenely, making lukewarm attempts to straighten out her schedule. "I wanted to go to Muggle Studies, but I couldn't find the right room. I was going to ask someone, but then everyone left, all at the same time." Lorraine smiled absently, a faint expression of gratitude on her face.

Sparky blinked as the girl spoke. Her voice was soft, so he almost had trouble hearing it in the bustle of students leaving. She wanted to go to...
"Muggle Studies?"
Irony at it's best, he supposed.
"W-well, this, uh, is Muggle Studies." How to handle this... He hadn't thought about what would happen if someone missed the first class. The first class was pretty important to the rest of the year, too... After a few seconds of thought, he spoke once more.

[ic: my short late reply ftw! >__> And hurrah for Hufflepuff no longer having negative points :'D ]
There was an awkwardly long pause as Lorraine digested this bit of information. Muggle Studies? Here? How fortunate! To think this random classroom she had wandered into was in fact the one that she had been looking for! However, after a few more seconds of lethargic celebrating, it dawned on her. Wasn't...class...over? That's what happened when everyone started to leave a classroom, right? So she missed class? And a class that had such fun, fun things like projectors in it? Lorraine seemed to wilt.
The girl stared vacantly at who she decided was the professor, immense disappointment on her face. "I'm Lorraine Cunningham," she answered slowly, looking mildly distraught.

Sparky watched as the expression on Lorraine's face went from thoughtful to sad to extremely disappointed. He felt something from inside, something painful, as he saw how very sad she seemed to be that she had missed his class. It was strange, really. No one else had been excited for his class. Except maybe the rebellious slytherin. This made him sad, though he was sort of glad that she had missed the crazy happenings of the over-crowded class.
"I, well, uh, it's nice to meet you Lorraine." He now officially knew about three people's names in his class! Awesome. "I'm uh, Sparky Cobalt and i am the professor of muggle studies and uh class is over now but" He stopped himself, his nervous ramble cut off for now.
"Well, um, you didn't miss much. Do you want to do the assignment real qui... er, quick? I'm, uh, in no hurry to go anywhere, I mean..."
Standing, Willow slipped past the girl Lorraine and into the hall, hugging her notebook to her chest. Her quill, parchment...etc, had all been stowed in her bag. The paper plane Ryo had thrown at her was clutched in one hand. Who was he? What did he want? Willow was slightly worried. They hadn't really formerly met.
So, leaning against the wall opposite the door, she waited for the Slytherin boy to join her. Her eyes flickered with some animal emotion, primal. The scents of the other students wafted past her. At least the class hadn't been as awkward as she had thought it would have been. What was with the chick coming in at the end of class? If you were going to play hooky, why get cold feet in the last five minutes?
Musing over the possible thoughts of humans, Willow sighed softly. She was a tad worried. Which was silly. If the Slytherin turned violent..
Well. Willow was fairly confident she could kill him.

Sparky? The professor's name was Sparky? What a nice name! Lorraine had never met anyone with that name before. Her downcast expression quickly stretched into a vacant grin. "You have such a nice name," she informed him dreamily, as if he were unaware of the fact. "It's very pretty. Reminds me of thunderstorms." Lorraine was quite partial towards rainy weather.
At the mention of making up the class, the girl brightened. She would be given a second chance? She wouldn't lose points? She wouldn't be lectured for being late? She wouldn't be expelled?
"Really? Really? You'll let me make it up? Yes, yes, I really want to!" she exclaimed enthusiastically--for her, at least--almost beside herself with sluggish delight.

The snake slipped out of class and made his way causally toward the girl he had sent the message to. She seemed lost in thought and had what looked like worry in her eyes and a flicker of something else. Something dark. Ryo hoped she wasn't planning on kidnapping him, or worse. He slapped on a convincing smile and approached her hoping he seemed not too deliberate but not too hesitant. It was a difficult balancing act, one he wasn't sure if he mastered.
He bowed slightly, "Hello, I'm Kanagawa Ryo. I was in the same class. I just wanted to talk. I don't understand what I saw in the hospital wing and I was hoping you would shed light on it since Felix is gone for some reason and the girl is probably deep in the woods or something. Care to move somewhere less open?"
Ryo pointed to his fox ears and leaned over to whisper to Willow, "And I hope you don't distrust me too much. After all, we are almost cousins."
"I've learned to distrust everyone until proven otherwise," Willow shot back coldly, arms crossed over her chest. The lycan had no intention of moving to far. She wasn't going to get kidnapped again. Thoughtfully, she rippled her fingers along the upper part of her arms. Silver scars.
Half-...something. Weird. Willow hadn't heard of it being possible, but whatever. Watching him with suspicion, the lycan just waited. She wasn't going to bow back.
"I'm Willow. Former Gryffindor." Her eyes flickered. "Shed some light on what? What did you see in the Hospital Wing?"
His random bits and pieces of sentences made no sense to her. Frowning at him, Willow just stood there, waiting for him to finish whatever he wanted to ask. "I don't like walking off with strangers anymore, thanks. You can whisper. I can hear you."
