Teagan's satin red hair quietly swayed around her shoulders as she carried her books from transfiguration and began to head to her next class, defense. Normally, classes like this were called defense against the dark arts, but this one was simply labeled as defense. It wasn't as narrowed down as defense against the dark arts, but it held a broader range. Perhaps this class was to teach about all styles of defense and survival; a class that combined Muggle techniques with magical ones. After all, the dark arts weren't the only things a person had to worry about. There were Muggle accidents, nature's incidents, and basic fighting. The title of this class covered more than something very specific and the name was much shorter than defense against the dark arts; the prefect guessed that she would enjoy it.
Her reddish eyes calmly glanced around the room as she stepped in, but the prefect didn't bother observing it too greatly before her 5' 5" figure sat down. It appeared that their teacher was supposed to be the older, though still young, woman that was in the class not wearing school robes. The professor's hair was a soft blond, and her eyes were violet, kind of like how the prefect's could turn. She was wearing a purple robe that accentuated her similar eyes. Of course, she wasn't wearing a uniform, so that was the main detail. Instead of a chalkboard, for once, there was a dry erase board, something much less messy and with a less distasteful scent. On the board, there were a few questions that the students were obviously supposed to answer. It also said that the professor's name was Professor Elensar, and that she had titled the class "defense against the dark form of arts;" apparently, the prefect's hopes had been for nothing.
Teagan pulled out some parchment, a quill, and ink before beginning to work on the answers. The first questions were easy enough, seeing as she hadn't had to think much and that she didn't have a nick name. As for specialties, did she really have one? There wasn't much she could do that other students couldn't. For gifted magic and best classes, she fared well with most kinds.
Then, there was the situation with her dream profession; did she even have one? Teagan didn't think of the future too much. She dealt with the here and now, but was hoping that she wouldn't have a future to bother with. For a career, did she really enjoy anything more than doing something else? Well, she was generally good at avoiding people and hiding, but what kind of job could you get with that? She could be an auror, but why would she want to have that business? Her living family hated her enough as it was. She could do work for the ministry, but that still seemed boring. Then, there was the choice of being a teacher; what fun would that be? She supposed she could write books or something, but that wasn't much of her style, either. A headmistress: that would be something to fear. She was hopeless.

It was about now that the professor easily announced that she was telepathic; wasn't that great? Next, she asked who the DADA professor at Magic Horizons had been. Since they weren't taught often, her name wasn't the clearest in Teagan's mind, but Rezna dutifully answered as she walked in slightly late. As for the class being "fun," that would be something they'd have to find out. A few minutes later after talking to a few more students, their teacher made an announcement involving, one could say, quite a bit more excitement for their class. Teagan attentively listened to the professor's words, watched calmly as a sword was pulled out, and was a little surprised about their sudden pop quiz involving the word "Pyrocistbibo."
Immediately, flaming birds appeared from green light and wasted little time darting at the many students of the room.
Since the birds were made of a gaseous substance, attacks with solid things would have been pointless; there was nothing solid to actually hit. If someone was to throw a rock at them, hit them, or stab them by Muggle methods, they'd be wasting their time. You could always take away the oxygen that was keeping the figures alive and smother the creatures, but it didn't appear as if non-flammable items were nearby and other tactics would probably involve ridding the room of oxygen the students needed to survive. As long as liquids didn't burn, they would probably work. Of course, it seemed as some students lacked common sense as they jumped around or tried to swat the birds away. All the birds were were fireballs shaped to look like ravens; nothing more.
Instinctively, the prefect's slender fingers gripped around the wand that was lifelessly laying at the front of her desk. Her long fingernails quickly pressed into the flesh of her right palm as she flicked her wand and whispered, "Aqua eructo!" A stream of water squirted out of the prefect's thirteen and a half inch willow and unicorn tail hair wand and hosed down the flame creature that chose to fly closer to her than what it should have considered safe. Upon their meeting, the two elements interacted in a steamy combination. A small dance of fog filled up a tiny area of where the "bird" had been. Of course, it soon diminished into the rest of the air particles in the room. Several other of the figures swarmed around the room, and Teagan took note to practice the spell used by their teacher.
