OOC: Alright guys...a few things to go over. Please take the time to read these because they are important in not pissing me off and causing yourself to lose housepoints.
Just for the record, as a general rule I don't like out of character comments in classroom threads. Obviously, if you have a pressing question or comment you can put it in, but I prefer that you pm me or one of your peers.
Also, the way that I'm going to be grading this will partially be on how well written your posts are. You can check the Advanced Charms rules for my details on that, but if you do, be aware that for right now, only the specifics on post quality will apply to this class. Basically, if you're writing, I expect it to be fairly detailed, which will help with length (another general rule is that I abhore short stupid posts; obviously if you can get across what you need to do in a short post, go for it, but I like things to be as expanded as possible). The things I look for are: spelling, grammar, and proper punctuation. Again, PM me if you have questions.
Please don't waste my time sending me PMs telling me that I'm not allowed to tell you how to write your posts. I simply want decent RPing and correct grammar so that my eyes don't bleed while I read these. Since I have to read them, I figure I can make rules about it. If you choose not to abide by these guidelines then I can choose not to give you house points or even to take them away.
I'm not assuming that you guys are the only ones in class, and for anyone reading this who hasn't posted, this class is not closed. If you decide to post now, you don't have to rp that you're horribly late or whatever. A good RPer can pull off posting something this late by summarizing part of what's happened in the thread up until this point.
BIC: The brunette tucked a stray curl behind her ear and sat perched atop her desk as her students entered the classroom. Unlike her old room at Magic Horizons, this room was completely devoid of her own personal "decorative" touches. There were no traces of any old pranks gone awry. It seemed as if that day and age had passed and these kids really had no idea what they could potentially be in for.
Even so, she made an attempt at smiling and began the class.
''Hello everyone. It's so strange to see so many unfamiliar faces. I'm Professor Adhara Naunet, and I used to go to Magic Horizons in England. I was a Gryffindor Prefect up until my 6th year, when I transferred to Four Points Academy in Greece. I worked for a year with a family friend in the Ministry, in the Experimental Charms department, after I graduated. However, office work wasn't to my taste, and after a bit of sabbatical I'm back teaching here because Headmaster Talon is an old friend.''
''Most witches or wizards have a field or two that they're particularly adept in. Personally, I'm fairly average at Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, and Astronomy, and am especially adept in Charms, of course, as well as Defense Against the Dark Arts. You'll soon learn that dueling is a specialty of mine. However, I'm miserable at Potions and Transfiguration. With a single exception...there's only one Transfiguration spell that I'm naturally good at. I would suggest that you never have need for a demonstration.''
Addie glanced around, trying desperately to conceal the little smirk that was threatening to spread all over her face in her characteristic mischievous grin--the precursor to all trouble she had ever caused. Perhaps the old Addie was not quite as gone as previously believed, ''I'm hardly older than most of you, so if you prefer, you can call me Adhara or Ms. Naunet outside of class.''
''But just because I'm not as old as most of the faculty, doesn't mean that I'm going to let you get away with anything, mind,'' she raised a finger and waved it at the students, ''Any prank you might choose to pull while you're in here, be cautious. I will always be a step ahead of you.''
''That being said, let's begin. I'm sorry to say that there will be no magic in this lesson, but don't worry,'' Adhara raised her wand and pointed it at a stack of papers sitting on the oaken surface next to her. She said the incantation to levitate them, and passed one to each student, ''This is the syllabus for this class. The rules are on there as well, but I'll go over them briefly just so you can't say that I didn't.''
''First of all, there will be almost no homework in this class. I may ask you to practice something on your own, but there will be no essays and no written tests. Obviously, this means that class participation is what you'll be graded on. We'll have a series of discussions--I'm going to try to avoid lectures when at all possible--and a bunch of class labs where you'll get to practice high level charms. Mind you, hardly any of these are approved to be used outside of class, and some we'll only talk about the theory behind them. This isn't because I don't think that you're capable of doing them, but because the Ministry 'technically' haven't approved them for public use yet,'' Adhara assumed an innocent expression; one that would fool pretty much anyone as long as they weren't familiar with the playful look in her eye.
However, the look quickly dissipated into a stern frown, ''This means that if I see, or hear, or in any way learn that these charms or ideas have been used in pranks throughout the school, there will be serious repercussions. I was hired because I would be able to give very up-to-date information on what is happening in the field of Charms. I was not hired to give you all more ideas than what I'm sure are already going through your devious little minds.''
''Now, to begin our first discussion. This is a very important topic that has never been fully covered in any other class you will have taken at this school. The question I want to pose to you today, and mind, there are no right or wrong answers--I just want to hear what you think, is this...''
