(ooc: I was feeling exceptionally lazy for the past couple of months, but here it is, finally. You were all looking forward to this, weren’t you?)
The classroom was empty. It was a haunting sort of emptiness that contrasted with the cheeriness that had been there that very morning. The sky was already darkening and the sun would disappear within the next hour, and the flickering candlelight from the room across the hall cast eerie shadows on the walls. The room had obviously been designed to make full use of the sun’s light as its light source, and wasn’t made for midnight wanderings. The desks and chairs had been stacked neatly against the sides of the room, leaving a wide-open clearing in the center of the place. Only the professor’s desk remained where it had been before, but the papers scattered on its surface earlier were now neatly tucked inside its drawers. Overall, the classroom had a lonely, abandoned air.
A shaft of light peeked out from behind a dark curtain in the back of the room. This was where the Charms professor usually was when grading papers or doing other things pertaining to the classes he taught. It was the entrance to his office. However, the only thing with life in there was one lit lantern. It seemed the professor had not yet arrived to meet his three students.
OOC: Yes...I was hoping we wouldnt have to do this...
BIC: When the alarm at the table Roan had fallen asleep at had gone off in the Common Room, she had groaned and wanted to fall back asleep on her homework until it had occured to her what was going on. Time for detention, the one she thought she didnt even earn. The Prefect had seriously contemplated skipping the detention altogether, the teacher was a jerk because of it. The girl had a pounding headache and had fallen asleep on her homework, and didnt want to go through with this right now. But grudgingly she gurmbled and turned off the magical alarm, pushing away from the desk and stranding up and stretching. There was a kink in her neck from lying like that for a few hours, and she grumbled and tried to rub it out to no avail. "Wonderful, just wonderful..." She mumbled.
Grabbing her wand and straightening her brown locks she gave a sigh. The girl had made sure she was wearing her black robes of lighter material, not the baggy school ones. These had no arms to them and left her skin bare, and held closer to her body. Her robes she used for work and for fighting, there was no telling what the annoying Professor Hawkins had in store for them. With another sigh, Roan shook her head. It was a shame she hadnt come up with another prank for Mr. Hawkins. For now she trudged out of the Common Room, reading for whatever this teacher wanted to throw at her.
---
When she entered the Classroom a few minutes later, she found herself about five minutes early for the prescribed detention. The door creaked open and then shut to allow Roan inside and she looked around with curious hazel eyes. The classroom looked so different, the desks were all off to the side, the middle of the room empty. It was darker and more eery and creepy, and sent chills up the Prefect's spine as she looked around. It was nothing like that morning, but then again, that morning had been cheery. Her first prank, pulled off masterfully, but yet, she had detention. And it wasnt even for the prank, that was the lame thing. It was for 'aggressive behavior'. The Head Boy had pointed his wand at her, and she had pointed her wand at him in pure self defense. And she got a detention.
The thought of him and the other girl that would be joining them made her blood boil for a second. Roan hadnt even done anything to warrant Cecied's verbal attack and almost magical attack, and then Lottie had just been a big mouth and lost Hufflepuff points because she couldnt keep her nose out of things. Roan, as her Prefect, intended to talk to her about that, in private if possible. And that talk might just involve a bit more then words if she got angry enough after this. For now, she had to breathe and get through the detention, get out, and go back to sleep in the Common Room. Her hand was rubbing out that kink in her neck, and she closed her eyes and took a deep breath against the headache. "Professor Hawkins?" She called, waiting for a response, and waiting for her fellows in crime to show up.

Charlotte had picked at a plate of bangers and mash at dinner for about half an hour until it went cold. A detention was the last thing she wanted to do that night, and yet Professor Hawkins had given her one. But what for? All she had done was be a Hufflepuff and be loyal to Roan. The Prefect and Head Boy had earned their detention through aggressive behaviour, whilst Charlotte had merely stated facts and left her wand firmly in her pocket. It was funny how these things worked, really.
As she saw the time on the clock, the brunette girl rolled her eyes and let her cutlery fall to her plate with a loud clatter, earning some raised brows from a few of her housemates. It was time to go and find Professor Hawkins already. Rolling her eyes and shuffling out of the Feasting Hall, Charlotte slammed the door behind her and headed to the Charms classroom.
Upon arriving there, brown eyes circled once again as she heard the voice coming from inside the room. Roan was there already too. If Ceicied had arrived already then it would hopefully take some of the flack off the younger Hufflepuff. But as she entered the room, a groan of despair left her as she realised it was just the two of them.
“Doesn’t look like he’s here,” Charlotte muttered, looking around. “Maybe he forgot. Do you think we can go?” she asked, taking a few steps backwards towards the door.
Something of a shadow loomed into the doorway as Charlotte attempted to back up through it, stopping her retreat quite quickly simply by blocking the exit. It didn't stay still long, and as it stepped into the vague light of dusk that filtered into the room was revealed to be none other than the Ravenclaw and Head Boy, Ceiced. His face was calm, like a distant thundercloud is calm. It was in his eyes that the lightning danced furiously, regarding the slightly younger Hufflepuff with mixed cold disdain and red hot fury. A frown creased the edge of his lips as he stepped slowly past her and stood a distance away from them, nearly as much distance as could be had in the small classroom.
Mentally, he ran through events so as to be sure he had them exactly correct. What had gotten himself here in the first place? Things had transpired so quickly that it had nearly left his head spinning, but the facts remained. The first Hufflepuff, Roan, disrupted class by launching some sort of slime at Professor Hawkins' robes. In the next moment, he was up with his wand at the ready. Reckless behavior? Perhaps, but when someone had as much blatant disrespect for authority as to outright stain the robes of your teacher, in the midst of an assignment, what were you supposed to do? Sit quiet? 'The Professor could've handled things, you know.' he told himself. 'He didn't need any help from a student.' Which was true, he was the teacher after all, and was most likely more than able to defend himself in such a harmless situation.
'I reacted on instinct. If that ridiculous inkwell had done nothing more than belch a puff of smoke I would've done the same.' he thought, bringing him back to square one. Maybe punishment really was in order then, if he had acted so brash. That was up to the Professor, who was absent, but with the situation at least straightened out in his head, he waited, hands clasped behind his back and standing straight. There was no way in Hell he would look scared or intimidated in front of two Hufflepuffs, especially not these two. 'And that other one... Charlotte. What a beast...' he thought, firmly suppressing the urge to grimace. Not a single word out of her mouth had been truthful, or accurate, or even civil for that matter. 'Well, she has a sour face to match that sour disposition. Perhaps there really is some justice in the world.'
The door to the classroom opened some time after Ceiced’s appearance, revealing a rather disheveled looking wizard wearing muggle clothes, of all things. Anil’s expression looked more peeved than usual as he entered the room, and he was running a hand through his bright hair when he caught sight of the students. His boots looked strange paired with a set of jeans; it was similar to the way a person tries to hide behind a bad disguise, but he had little choice in clothing due to a slight problem with his luggage, the reason for his delay.
“I wasn’t expecting you to be here this early,” he said to the students, almost wryly. The professor knew full well he was late at least for a half-hour, if not more. In fact, he wouldn’t have been surprised if he had kept them waiting for more than a full hour. The time it took for him to realize those idiots had handled his baggage improperly and acquire the supplies need to repair the damage they had caused seemed much longer than a mere thirty minutes.
“To the point,” he said sharply. He pulled out his wand from a back pocket and with a quick motion, conjured a large trunk in the middle of the room. As soon as it could, the wooden chest in front of them began to rattle, a cacophony of squeaking issuing from it in long bursts. Little thumping noises accompanied it, as if small creatures were hurling themselves against its sides. For all the students knew, it quite possibly could be the cause of the noise.
“This trunk,” Anil began matter-of-factly, “is full of doxies, also known as biting fairies. Their little fangs are full of venom, and saying it can make you sick is an understatement. Irritating things, they are.” He shifted awkwardly, obviously chafing in the unfamiliar clothing. It would be safe to assume this trunk was where this pureblooded wizard had packed his robes and other wear. Perhaps if Roan had decided not to shoot cream at this professor, he would not be in this predicament. Then again, he wouldn’t have held detention if she hadn’t. “Your task is to get rid of them. I have everything you need here, and if you get bitten, come get the antidote. Their poison won’t kill you, but the effects are less than pleasing.” A tray had quietly appeared near his feet sometime while he was speaking. It was true that it had everything they needed. A few spray bottles labeled “Doxycide” along with vials of strange looking liquid were arranged neatly upon it. “Do any of you need directions?” he asked in a bored tone.

Charlotte had rolled her eyes skywards as the Head Boy came in. She was in detention with her own house Prefect and the Head Boy... and with a Professor holding it. The brunette had most definitely been in more comfortable situations.
By the time the Professor came in, Charlotte was sitting on a desk swinging her legs back and forth. For a while, she had been suggesting they leave. But moments after her latest suggestion, the flame-haired Professor walked through the door looking extremely irritated. Fan-frickin-tastic the girl muttered to herself, sliding off the desk.
As their task was explained to them, Charlotte almost laughed. "Doxies? Prof, I'm sure you know a much quicker way to get rid of them than we do, and it'll save you so much hassle. This detention's stupid," she explained, leaning back on the desk once more and folding her arms. Whatever happened to good old fashioned lines?
The Holly wand that Ceiced held so dear was quickly in his right hand, the Doxycide would go in his left, and thus he could be done with this loathsome task and on with his life. His respect for the Professor grew for his direct way of punishing his students instead of complicating things by trying to place the blame. It should have worked to solve Charlotte's acid tongue, but once again he was proved wrong when she snapped back that she was allergic.
"Yeah, and I'm the King of France." he muttered, before looking to Professor Hawkins. "I understand." The Doxycide spray would do the job, perhaps, but would be inaccurate and most likely short ranged. Doxies would move far too fast for it to be effective. The wheels were already turning as to how best to handle the situation, but this Charlotte was no doubt going to be even more venomous than the fairies. Any attempt to work out a reasonable solution would be moot, so perhaps he could jest her into opening the chest first... if not, he would be content to stay here all night. 'Impedimenta would stop or slow them, but who's telling how many are in there? I'd need to use a lot of energy to freeze them all.'
At that moment a brilliant idea entered his head, and without delay he looked to Charlotte and said as caustically as he felt, "This handles things far better than you deserve." Placing the Doxycide carefully upright on the ground, he thrust his wand at the yammering trunk and intoned, "Armawasi!" before violently flicking the length of Holly in his hand in the direction of the opposite wall. The trunk jerked off the floor and into the air as from a catapult, directly toward a long window that stretched from ceiling nearly to the floor. With a thunderous shattering of glass the pixies and trunk both were quite literally gotten rid of, very likely to smash devastatingly into the ground somewhere far from the classrooms and probably from the school, he had aimed it for somewhere in the vicinity of the forest, but it might fall short depending on how heavy the trunk had been.
"Reparo." he said, arcing his wand toward the window, which sucked the jagged fragments and iron bindings back into place in a whir of motion. In all, the room looked exactly as it had before, minus one box full of Biting Fairies. He turned to Professor Hawkins and stood straight, only a slight smile quirking his lips as he said, "Fairies are gone, sir. Will there be anything else?"
Each person entered, and Roan couldnt help but feel angry at them. She and Forgoil had already talked to Charlotte before this, she knew what was expected of her now, more respect, if she didnt want Roan as her faithful watchdog for the rest of her life then she would obey. Already though she tried to leave, and the Prefect turned and crossed her arms, smiling as her retreat was cut off by another person, Ceceid. Her face went a bright red out of anger when she saw this boy who had turned a wand on her for no reason. When magical beings turned wands on each other, it was no joke, that was really dangerous. And it had gotten her in trouble, so she wasnt very happy about this. They all kinda stood there though until the Professor came in.
His false cheer just made Roan want to barf, he was the kind of Professor that she hated. It was a good thing she had pranked him, maybe this detention would be worth it. She listened quietly to what their punishment would be, and her red face went rather pale when she heard it was doxies. Those things werent scary, just annoying. And their venom was rather frustrating to go through, Roan didnt want to, not even for a short while. Was he out of his mind? She almost asked him too, but she stopped herself and choked on her words instead, coughing. But she heard what Lottie had said, and she was angry once again, her hands clenching into fists. With a sweet look at the Professor, she walked over to the smaller girl. "Professor, may I have a chat with dear Lottie here?"
She didnt wait for response, grabbing Charlotte by her arm with a grip tight enough to bruise and dragging her across the room and off to the side. When she stopped she turned around and made it so that Lottie's face was close to hers, so she could see how angry she was. "You have caused the House of Hufflepuff enough grief! Bite your tongue or I will make you! Didnt you listen to me and Forgoil tonight? At all? You will go back and apologize to the Professor now, and as soon as we are out of detention hand in your wand for the night. I cant believe after all we told you, you still act up like this. Show some respect for a Professor, and show some respect for your house!" She hissed angrily at the girl. Roan was a small person, five foot two, but she was very imposing when she had to be.
With a huff she let go of Lottie, regained herself, and walked back over to where the suitcase rested, taking out her wand and arriving just as the Head Boy put down his doxycide. Before she could stop him, he had thrown the trunk out the window, and Roan's mouth was open. He had just thrown the Professor's trunk, with his posessions out a window. And he was angry at Roan for shooting a little cream at him. But the girl's respect for the boy went up several notches, the detention was over with already. She blushed out of embarassment and tucked her wand back into her robes, looking at the Head Boy and not the Professor. "Thanks..." She muttered quietly, taking a few deep breaths and waiting for the Professor's reply to all of this.
Anil glanced acidly at Charlotte, dark eyebrows arching at her comment. “Yes, detentions are a waste of time, and I’m sure you wouldn’t want to land another one, hm?” he replied smoothly. He crossed his arms and leaned back against the wall, mirroring the Hufflepuff’s gesture. “And if doxies were so simple to get rid of, then I’m sure it will pose no threat to you. Unless,” here, the professor’s mouth twitched upward in a smirk, “You really are as inept as you seem. Do you need directions?” He repeated his question one more time. “It’s not as if I am barring you from using magic.”
The Hufflepuff Prefect seemed fit to burst after that little episode. "Professor, may I have a chat with dear Lottie here?" She flashed him the same sugary smile she had shown him during class, and without waiting to see him nod his assent, grabbed the younger student and dragged her to a corner of the classroom. Her scolding whispers were just loud enough for Anil to grasp their meaning, though he could not hear the actual words. This Prefect was well chosen, despite her pranking. She did what was expected of her position and tried to keep students out of trouble, at least. Roan didn’t seem to believe in leading by example, however.
Shaking his head mentally, the professor turned his attention to Ceiced. The Head Boy stood there silently, obviously contemplating the best way to handle the situation. It was best to come up with a plan of attack before tackling something, Anil had always believed, and it seemed Ceiced had the same idea. With one ear-shattering crash, he executed his plan.
"Fairies are gone, sir. Will there be anything else?"
Professor Hawkins’ response consisted of a cross between dumbfounded silence and mild amusement. His trunk had just been flung across school grounds, landing heavens-knew-where, quite effectively getting rid of the doxies. “That was rather unorthodox,” he finally managed after his initial shock. A bemused smile began to crack his face. “Quite inventive, I must say.” He shook his head, still not quite believing what had just happened. “I suppose you may all go, unless one of you wish to help me recover my belongings?” His amusement had passed faster than a shadow, and his serious expression had returned. bg

Charlotte had to struggle to cough back a laugh at the way Ceiced had dealt with the Doxies. "Smooth, real smooth," she almost smirked at the Head Boy, deciding to ignore his previous comments regarding what she had said to the Professor. Now, however, there was a new obsticle to deal with.
"Professor, may I have a chat with dear Lottie here?"
Oh boy... the said girl whispered to herself, not having any time to draw back before the Prefect grabbed her arm. Wincing a little, Charlotte looked away as Roan began scolding her in harsh whispers. Choosing to say silent until she was let go, the brunette girl crossed her arms and watched the Prefect return to the Professor with a scowl directed at the back of the retreating girl.
"Just wait.. you'll see," Charlotte whispered, listening in on the more than welcome words Professor Hawkins was directing at them. “I suppose you may all go, unless one of you wish to help me recover my belongings?” He really thought they wanted to stick around? "I'd love to, Prof., really. But I don't want to."
With those parting words, the young Hufflepuff turned on her heel and fled the room. Did Roan really think she was going to hand her wand in for the night straight after dinner. Oh no. She had plans of her own she wanted to try out before she would let that little event occur. An event she was sure Roan would not like one tiny bit. Nor Forgoil now she thought on it, but what did that matter? Maybe it would make them see that she was not about to let herself be controlled.
That was it? They were being let off just like that? Throwing a very thankful glance at Cecied, she knew she would make it up to him for being so quick minded. She would make full apologies to him and the Professor, thank fate for her good luck, and take it now. The Professor asked if any of them would like to go with him, Roan considered it for a moment, opened her mouth to answer, but Charlotte had instead. What she had said made the Prefect get angry again and ball her hands into fists. She glared at the girl and then glanced at the Professor. "No thank you, I have other things to attend to or I would. Goodnight Professor." She said with an angry hint, that was totally directed at the 'Puff who had just fled the classroom. She followed suit, running after the younger girl. The last thing the Professor would hear would be Roan yelling in the hall. "Get back here now Charlotte!"
Roan ran after her, and when she got into arms distance, she wrapped her arm around the younger girl's wrist and yanked as hard as she could, not caring what she did right now. "You will never listen! You will never learn! We tried to set you straight tonight, and yet you cannot listen to your elders on this matter. What you said was rude and wrong to the Professor right now. Tonight, you are going to write a very lengthy apology letter to him, detailing what you said that was wrong, and why it was wrong. Or, I will detain you in the Common Room, you will not even leave for lessons, Ill teach them to you myself from my notes, and Ill bring you your homework. That is enough Lottie! Enough! Respect your Professors, and respect your House!" She hissed angrily at the girl, her brown eyes flashing.
Holding out her hand for a moment, she said quietly. "Your wand, now Lottie." But then she realized this probably wouldnt work. Looking around to confirm there were no students nearby, she gave a sigh and flicked her own wand, focusing all her power into a Cheering Charm. It had wonderful effects on this girl, and would make her a bit easier. Right now Roan would get her wand, escort her to the Common Room, take her broom, lock the two things back up into her own dorm, and make sure the girl wrote an apology to the Professor. And if Charlotte chose to push it, she would be writing long apology letters to every single person in this school she had wronged.

Though it seemed she was wrong. There was one thing that could make Charlotte be controlled, and Roan had nailed it on the head as soon as the younger girl had arrived. That blasted cheering charm.
As soon as it hit her, the dullness left brown eyes and a more excited twinkle came back. All negative thoughts had been erased and the hyperactive little girl most of them loved returned... all thanks to one simple spell. There had been an arguement formed on her lips, but it faded instantly to be replaced with: "Wanna play hide and go seek? I'll bet you couldn't find me if you tried! My cousin taught me how to play it really well two summer's back. But I can't tell you the secret otherwise you'd find me far too quickly!"
Giggling as she gently tried to wriggle her wrist out while practically bouncing on the spot, she carried on. "C'mon! You'll be cheating if you carry on holding on 'cause then you'll know where I am 'cause you'll be there too! Please, Roan? Just one came before bed?" She grinned up at the Prefect, awaiting her answer.
Roan almost took a few steps back when she saw that twinkle in Charlotte's eyes, her spell had worked, of course it did. The Prefect had been practicing the Cheering Charm all the time just in case she had to use it on Lottie. She would follow the girl around with it if she had to. Then that energy come and all Roan could do was stare at the little ball of joy she was holding onto with a tight grip. "Hide and go seek!?! Hide and go seek Lottie! Do you have any idea what you just did, some of the things you just said! Now calm down and stand still!" She gave a yank on the girl who was going on about her cheating or something.
Roan rolled her eyes and took a deep breath, counting to ten. "No Lottie, we cannot play hide and seek, not even one round. You have to give me your wand, and then your broom once you get up to dorms. Then you are going to write an apology letter to Professor Hawkins because you were a jerk to him. So calm down, stand still, and hand over you wand. In fact, lets just do this the easy way." She shook her head and drew her wand out of her robes. "Accio Lottie's wand!" Her voice was quiet, and the girl's wand soared into her outstretched hand calmly, and she pocketed it, putting that free hand on the girl's chin and making her face her.
"Now Lottie, back to the Common Room, shall we?" She asked calmly, keeping her eyes locked on the girl's. Roan was fully prepared to stun the girl and drag her back, and then use some form of torture, hopefully with Forgoil's help, to get Lottie to write the letter. The only challenge would be to get miss hyper Lottie to listen to her for two seconds.
Post by Lottie McCartney on Mar 5, 2006 14:10:04 GMT -5
"Aww but I wanna go pl-whoa..." Charlotte cut herself off as her wand flew out of her robe pocket where it had been resting, completely unaware that if Roan hadn't aimed the cheering charm at her, it would have been used more than once already. The words Roan had said before had caused the smaller girl to stop wriggling and bouncing for all of two seconds. She still had to write the letter? And she had to do it tonight? If the Prefect was going to use the charm on her, surely she couldn't expect the brunette to sit still for long enough to be able to write it. Or listen to her in the first place without bouncing off a few walls in the process.
Roan kept her eyes locked on her own brown ones as she spoke again, and instantly, puppy dog eyes came into play. "Please, Roan? Just one round! I promise I'll go back after and write the letter! But... it might have been those chocolate mice earlier today... do you reckon that was it? Because I just want to run around and play! Please, Roan? Pretty please?" Lottie persisted, her eyes growing wider and wider as each word was said.
"Where's that other guy? Maybe he'll want to play too! I know we're not friends with him yet, but if he likes ice cream and balloons I'm sure he'll be a great person to be friends with. Don't you agree?"
Roan was getting more and more annoyed by the second with this girl, it was like she didnt even remember what had just happened in the classroom, and it bothered her to no end. She seemed honed in on playing Hide and Go Seek, something she really didnt want to do, and wouldnt do. The girl let go of her and put her hands on her hips, staring down at the little girl who was so energetic. Now she was going on about Cecied, and she shook her head and took a few deep breaths. "Will you ever learn Lottie? Ever? Own up to your mistakes. No, we will not be playing Hide and Go Seek, we are going to play a little game I like to call, shut up. It goes a little like this. Silencio." Her voice was annoyed as she flicked a wand and silenced the younger girl, a smile on her lips.
So it seemed the girl wasnt going back to the Common Room willingly. "Which spell to use, which spell to use. I think these will do quite nicely. Stupefy, Incarcerous!" The stunning spell and the spell that made ropes bind Charlotte. For once there was peace and quiet, and Roan knew she would have to get her out of the hallway before someone saw. She looked down at Lottie, a smile on her annoyed and tired face. "There there, isnt this so much better? Its quiet, its calm, you are listening to me. Now, we are going to the Common Room, yes, you have to write that letter. So lets go my dear." She said cheerfully, looking around for a moment.
Confirming there was nobody there, Roan flicked her wand and Charlotte levitated into the air. Then she swept down the hall, directing the girl with her wand and making it so that she floated lightly in front of her. The Prefect hummed cheerfully and headed straight for the Common Room with her hostage, ready to get to work that night on the job Charlotte had to get done.
If this is to end in fire Then we shall all burn together Watch the flames climb high into the night
