Walking nervously into the Feasting Hall, Colette Gerard looked in to see if anyone was there. A few stragglers, yes, but not many others. Perfect, the French girl thought to herself. She hated eating in front of other people.
The petite girl could eat a lot for her size, but it never seemed like a lot to other people. Hence, why Colette ate when almost everyone had left the Feasting Hall. She enjoyed the time of quiet and the fact that one one teased her. Seating herself at the Slytherin's long table, the young woman waited for her food to appear on the golden plate in front of her.
The plate had a golden-brown roll, various fruits and vegetables, and a small amount of ham. Colette's perfect meal. "Ah, delicious," she murmured in her little French accent. She was happy, and didn't really notice anyone else around her. Coffee appeared as well and Colette grinned; she loved the House Elves. Taking a sip, she tasted that it was not only the perfect brew, but also the perfect temperature. What a wonderful, peaceful evening.

Verity walked into the hall unsteadily, trying to keep the three thousand notebooks, papers and stuff in general from falling out of her arms.
It isn't that difficult, she thought as she maneuvered between the Ravenclaw and Slytherin table.
The Feasting Hall wasn't very crowded, and Verity disliked the lack of noise. Then, as if gravity had sensed her desire for noise, the objects in her arms clattered unto the floor, and Verity tried to reach and place everything in her bag. One particularly odious item, a pencil sharpener, had rolled near the feet of a petite Slytherin. "Um, excuse me, but would you please pass me that pencil sharpener?"

The high strung young Slytherin nearly jumped out of her skin at the loud bang. "Mon Dieu!" she exclaimed out of surprise and looked up with wide eyes to see who had caused it. She half-scowled before registering what the girl had said.
Looking down, Colette saw the pencil sharpener and picked it up. Handing it over to the girl, Colette tried to calm her nerves a little. I need to take up smoking, she thought. So many other dancers did it, so she didn't see why she couldn't, too. "Do you 'ave enough stuff?" Colette asked, trying to keep the rude tone from her voice and only just succeeding. Colette stopped eating while she waited for the girl to leave. She hated to eat in front of people.

"I'm really sory about that, I'm just tired." Verity replied, rubbing her eyes slightly. The blonde had been writing in the library all day, and she was somewhat exhausted. Her fingers ached, and her blonde hair was even messier than usual.
Her mind, was even slower at taking in information, when she finally realized something. "I'm sorry, but are you French?"

Raising one eyebrow in surprise of the odd question, Colette's attitude took a turn. "What do you sink?" she said sarcastically. Colette was hungry for once, but she didn't want to eat while the girl was there, so she just had to wait. The petite girls messed up stomach grumbled.
Rolling her eyes, she wondered if the girl was going to sit down. Today was one of those days where Colette was as rude as a Slytherin and as bratty as her terrible older sisters. But she couldn't help it, it was just how she was at times. "Please, have a seat," she said, acid dripping from her voice. "You're just interrupting a wonderful meal."
The plate had barely been filled with food to begin with and was closer to being finished, so it looked like nothing. The coffee kept coming, though, which was probably causing the crabbiness.

"Well, you could be Romanian," offered Verity offhandedly, not really thinking about what she was saying. It was hard to dim the voice at this hour.
Verity noticed the sarcasm in the girls voice as she offered her a seat, but Verity ignored it and sat down at the Slytherin table, too tired too even care if she was welcome or not.
"That isn't a very wonderful meal, you know, you have ham on your plate. It's a dead animal."

Colette rolled her eyes as the girl commented on the dead animal. "What can I say, I love dead things," she retorted. "Zis is ze Slytherin table, are you sure you want to sit here?"
Without eating, Colette pushed her food around the plate. She truly hated eating in front of people. The disorders Colette had in the past still affected her, so she did her best to just avoid eating in front of others. Including the hippy-drippy animal loving girl. "Where are you from?" Colette asked, wanting to know what house the dense girl was from. Colette was in a truly terrible mood, for this girl had ruined her meal and then criticized her about it.

"I am aware that this is the Slytherin Table," said Verity. "But somehow, I feel better at any other table than the Ravenclaw, so I really don't care." Verity really didn't fit in in Ravenclaw, and as she wasn't a member of any other house, she considered herself a category unto itself.
"Where am I from?" Verity thought back to the starking contrast between the two places she had spent most of her life. "I'm not from Europe, I'm from Latin America. My mother is French, you know. She used to be a dancer."

"A French dancer?" Colette asked, surprised. She wanted to begin asking questions, but she did her best to resist. Instead, she went for the fact that she was a Ravenclaw. "I sought ze Ravenclaw were intelligent... do you not fit in zere?"
It was a low blow and Colette regretted it as soon as she said it, which showed in her eyes. But she couldn't take it back, what was said was said. "Most people do not like ze Slytherin... besides ze Slytherin. Why would you want to sit 'ere?"

Verity laughed at the comment of not fitting in there. "I guess I don't. I don't pine over books like my peers, I just learn as I go along."
Verity frowned at the idea of most people not liking Slytherins. "I don't really understand why people wouldn't like your house, it seems like a silly prejudice. Besides, the characteristics that define Slytherins sound very interesting. I'd rather associate with interesting people than the right people."
