It was always nerve-wracking starting at a new school, even worse when that new school was far away from the old one. It had to be the absolute worst, though, when the new school was - for all intents and purposes - in a completely different world. It was bad enough having to learn the new rules and layout of a new school, but to be learning about a completely different way of existence at the same time?
Kira made her way cautiously through the halls of the school, mindful of the other students bustling about around her. She stuck close to the wall, usually running a hand against it as a sort of guide. Not that she wouldn't end up where she needed to be, what with the mass of students buffeting her toward the Great Hall. At least, she hoped that's where they were going - she was rather hungry.
It wasn't too long before the crowd dispersed significantly, the people previously surrounding the new first year spreading out in different directions. Kira wondered briefly where they were all going, then decided that they must have reached their destination and everyone was breaking off to head to their own tables. Kira started to follow suit, then realized she had no idea where to go. She had heard mention in the common room last night that each of the houses had their own table, but she had no way of knowing which one might be Hufflepuff's.
Sighing softly, she tugged at the robes she wore. It was odd wearing such a garment. She was much more partial to jeans and t-shirts, herself. The school dress code, however, required the skirt and robes she now wore. She adjusted the overlying robe once more, feeling a bit self-conscious. After all, for all she knew it was some kind of joke. Everyone else might well be wearing "normal" clothing, pointing and snickering at the new girl standing in the doorway with her odd outfit.
An abrupt bump from behind sent Kira stumbling several steps further into the Great Hall. Arms flailing in an attempt to catch herself, she fell ungracefully to the floor. Whoever had run into her continued along their way, apparently unaware they had collided with the small girl. Kira brushed herself off and stood, fumbling her way back toward the doors. Once there, she stepped off to the side of the entrance, waiting for some sign of where she was supposed to go.
