"Apology accepted," he said, somewhat darkly as he was still recalling those terrible, terrible weeks of nonstop boredom. Didn't Sparky know big dogs needed a lot of space to run around? Didn't he know lycans needed even more? Well, not that the guy had known he was a lycan at all back then. But still.
"You'd be sad?" he asked, all innocence. "So you do like me. Aha." Why did Sparky look so anxious? He couldn't care that much if Orca left. All Orca had done was mess up his fragile little life even worse than it seemingly was before. Stupid sexy Teagan.
"You're my friend too," the lycan said honestly. "I'm glad you're talking to me. You never really did before. Like, you'd talk, but not about anythin' real. You know?"
Yeah.
"Spaark, I wanna know more 'bout you." This had basically turned into a psuedo-date, anyway. Hey! What had ever happened to their real date?
Oh yeah, he'd nearly eaten Sparky's face off. That.
"What're you teachin' right now? Is teaching fun?" He'd come up with bullshit questions until he thought of something real good. Something that, hopefully, wouldn't be as hurtful as the whole Teagan thing. Whoops.

Like him? Just what was the lycan trying to imply? He felt the heat rise once more. He wanted to correct him, to mumble out apologies and denials but wouldn't that just make him all the more suspicious? What could he do to play this off smoothly?
"I-I uh well I g-guess um.."
Very smooth.
"I... I'm sorry." It's true, he was never really the most talkative, and even when he talked, he usually avoided talking about anything with actual content. It was very hard to talk to people when you were stuttery, anyway, so why bother, you know? It took too much effort.
"M.. more about me?" Why would anyone want to know more about him? He was pretty sure he'd exhausted his 'interesting story' repertoire when he'd told the Teagan tale.
"I'm uh.." He swallowed, nervous. "I'm teaching muggle studies... It's uh, kind of fun, I guess. No one really likes my class." At least that much was apparant to Sparky. He could tell in the way that no one respected him, especially not in class, and the way they just kind of... went on without him. Even his class refused to let him play in any reindeer games.

"Muggle studies?" He leaned forward, excitement on his tanned face. "That's so cool! I didn't know you were raised muggle too, or whatever." It was kinda funny, as only a year ago Orca had actually thought a 'muggle' was some sort of delicious desserts. He'd learned, eventually, after many a confusion when the word was brought up in casual gossip. 'Muggles all blowing up shit in the Middle East' 'Your jello did what' etc.
But, muggle born. Yes. They could have all sorts of conversations about music and video games, this meant! There was literally a limitless amount of topics that were in the Safe Zone. Awesome.
"Whycome no one likes your class, Spark? I wish I could gooo." He sighed, stabbed the steak with his fork to show his frustration. Honestly, he shouldn't even be in the cafeteria. But Sparky would vouch for him, right? Talon showing up and kicking him out would just be the cherry-topping to his day(s). "If I could, I'd totes show up and tell 'em how awesome you are." That would be fun. He could be Sparky's show and tell, all sitting on his friend's desk for the whole class and looking cute. Man.
"Weren't you teachin' Charms too, before? You're so good at those, Spark!" And he was, too, no matter how much the wizard tried to act all humble-like about it. That one time when he'd been playing with the scarred-up kid in Drakborough and Sparky had come to play to, he'd been amazing with his rapid-fire magic. It was, it was hot. Dang. Maybe he'd get to see Sparky do it again.

"Y-yeah... I was. Until I was like, ten, I think.." He didn't honestly remember how old he was at the time. He just knew Max had started showing signs earlier than he had. It was a shame that his brother was gone; didn't showing magical signs early on imply greatness? What a waste. He didn't really feel like sharing his dead family stories at the time, though. He'd talk about it if Orca asked, sure, but no way in hell he was gonna bring it up himself.
"I guess my class is kind of... boring." In fact, he had no idea why Orca had said 'so cool' to the idea. It really was a boring class. Sparky didn't teach very well, either; he was only a teenager still himself, after all. No one really respected him. "That'd be fun, if you did." Sparky smiled at Orca, imagining. People wouldn't give him so much shit if Orca was there, tearing every student who raised their voice at him apa-
No, no. That wouldn't do. It would still be fun to have him there, though. He would be a help in class, wouldn't he? Sparky thought about it, and the idea went from 'comic relief/filler episode' to 'good idea' slowly but surely. He'd probably ask him about it later.
"Oh, I was uh... The substitute. I'm not that good at them.."
"Ehh, ten? I think I was... Umm." How old had he been? He couldn't think back that far, it just got all murky. Something about being a lycan did that to you. Oh, well. His childhood wasn't really anything he wanted to carry around anyway. "Well! I was somewhere 'round there. Twelve or thirteen, I think. Er, when I left America and did the magic school stuff, anyway."
He rested his cheek on the back of his hand, watched Sparky with interested blue-green eyes. Sparky, have a boring class? More like, he just had some stupid students. They should feel lucky they got to have Sparky as a teacher, right? He knew he would've appreciated it, anyway. Jealousy flickered over his gaze, and his smile turned into a slight frown.
"Spark, I will! I'll come and make them know you are the very best!"
Like no one ever was.
He made a disbelieving face at Sparky's last comment, shaking his head. "Naw, Spark, you are too. I seen you in prac-tice. Whycome you got no confidence, man? You're, like, the strongest magic person user thing I ever seen, you know?"
Or something!
"Spark, Spark." He grinned, tried to look as charming as possible. "Can we still have sleepovers in your room even though I ain't your dog anymore?"

Aww. So Orca had gone to a magic school. He didn't know that. He couldn't have gone to Firefox, though, right? He would have known! Besides, more people would recognize him, wouldn't they?
"What magic school did you go to, Orca?" He asked, curious (I'm sorry if Sparky should already know this honey if he does then pretend sparky forgot and deal with it that way XD). He knew there were more than a few spread out over Europe and in particular, western europe. Hell, there were one or two in the Americas, too, he'd heard.
"Really?" He asked, eyes wide. "That would be... awesome." He could imagine it already, all of his students bowing down to Orca, (and to him, by proxy) giving them the respect they deserved, or something like that.
"Th... Thank you, Orca." He said, in response to his compliments in his use of magic. He'd never been praised like that to his face, before. He could feel a little reddening in his face. "I... Th-thanks."
And Orca's next question just served to bring more color out.
"I uh.." What was the policy on that, anyway? They were adults, so he couldn't really see there being restrictions. Besides, they were both guys. It was perfectly fine... probably.
"I um... Yes." He nodded.
"Do you want.. To uh, stay over tonight, then?"
No homo! Nohomonohomonohomo, he was just worried because Orca had had a long series of days. They all had. He was actually feeling exhausted as he was. It was too much information, too much he was trying to avoid thinking about, like the fact that Orca could tear him apart or remove all traces of magic from his body in one well-placed nibble.
"Hmm?" The lycan blinked, thought for a minute. "Something... horizons? Haha, yeah. I don' remember. It was pretty okay, I guess, I think the staff there liked me a lot more than they do here." Another blink. "I mean, besides you, Spark!"
That school had been pretty interesting. Like, sure, the staff were friendly and the Headmistresses threw picnics, but at the same time nobody gave a shit when vampires or whatever attacked and killed people. Like, really? He'd attended a total of maybe three classes before he'd dropped out to run with the wolves. Back then, education hadn't seemed important at all. It was ironic, because back then he could've remained in school even though he was a lycan, just not participating in the needs-magic stuff. Kinda funny, kinda sad.
"Yeah, I totally will, Spark! Just, uh, if Tally shows up don't let him magic me, 'kay? An', haha, you're welcome."
His question about the sleepover, while innocent, nonetheless sparked a blush on the other boy's face. Hooray!
"Do you want.. To uh, stay over tonight, then?"
Total surprise took over the lycan's face, and it was a moment before he could compose himself enough to answer. Of course he wanted to. Was Spark really that oblivious? Probably. Either that or extremely self-conscious. Nahh, not Sparky.
"I, yes! Can I, Spark? We c'n like stay up all night telling scary stories an' stuff! Ahhh, I'm so excited."
It should be okay, right? After all, he'd spent the better part of his last two years there, even if that was while in the wolf form. What was so different about it now? Other than, you know, everything.
Post by Sparky Cobalt on Nov 12, 2010 3:25:35 GMT -5
"Something horizons..?" Probably Magic Horizons. Man, how did the people at that school feel when a crapton of their students up and left them for Firefox? There didn't seem to be any school loyalty at all for them. Hell, half the people he'd talked to, his first year at Firefox, had been from that school. He heard that Talon Windwaltz himself had gone there, and had even been a professor before he left. It was crazy. He'd heard even crazier rumors about Azrael, that guy with the zombies in the tunnels, had been a teacher too! That was obviously bullshit, but damn.
Huh. He hadn't thought about Talon intruding.
"No, I'm sure he'll understand, Orca! It'll be okay."
He couldn't help but grin, though, when Orca got so excited about staying over. Sure, he'd slept in his room before, but it had never been a 'sleep over'. He was a dog, after all. The sleep-over-y-est thing he did with that dog there was probably paint herhis claws, and he hadn't liked that very much.
"Yeah, sure! I don't have to like... Teach class or anything, tomorrow. So it'll be okay."
If Sparky said it would be okay, then it would probably be okay. Probably. Maybe. Hopefully.
Whatever.
The lycan looked at the amount of food still left on the table and made a face. He felt bad just wasting it, but he was pretty damn full himself. Plus, it wasn't like he'd asked for it, right?
Yeah, tell that to the starving kids in Ethiopia.
Oh, well.
He snagged one of the last pieces of bacon and chomped it, getting up from the table as he did so. Sleepover, huh. He'd said it so casually, but in all honesty he hadn't had a real sleepover since grade school, when he'd go over to Atty's house and they'd stay up all night watching movies and eating unhealthy junk food. It was nostalgic, almost, except for the part where he still kinda wanted to hunt Atticus down and rip his face off.
Sigh. Childhood.
"C'mon Spark!" His words came out muffled from the food still in his mouth and he swallowed hastily (that's what she said), gesturing to his friend. "You comin' or what?"

Morgan found herself a little in awe of how strangely familiar everything was. She hadn't realized exactly how much she'd missed this place until she was up the steps and inside. She remembered when she'd first arrived, a wide-eyed thirteen year old girl brimming full with hopes and dreams. And, for a while, she'd lived those dreams. Being a professional quidditch player had been fantastic, even if she hadn't been able to play a full season. She looked at where her skirt revealed her false leg, enchanted silver gleaming above her boot, almost six inches of it visible between boot and hem.
It had been no one's fault, really, just an accident. An accident that had ended her career early. So, she'd come back to the only place she'd ever been truly able to call home, Firefox. She had come to ask Talon for a job, but before she did, she wanted to see if any of her old friends were still here. As she entered the feasting hall, she saw Sparky and Tyson. It was so great that those two were still together.
Would she be interrupting if she said hi? Well, she was going to say hi anyway. Sparky was a teacher here, maybe he could help her get a job too. "Hello, Sparky. Hello, Tyson," Morgan said as she drew close to them. "How are things going for you two?" She couldn't help herself, she had to hug Sparky. He was one of her oldest friends. "I missed you so much! I can't wait until we have some time to really catch up. There's so much I want to tell you. By the way, do you know if Talon's seeing anybody today? I know I probably should have owled first, but I kind of need a job. My parents disowned me! It's fantastic! I've been living off saved allowances, but, well, that's not going to last forever, you know?"

Sparky got up shortly after Orca did. He would've gotten up anyway without Orca's reminders, because it was kind of awkward to be the only person sitting while your friend is standing, obviously wanting to leave. Now, Sparky was the kind of guy to miss these kind of things entirely, and if there had been more than Orca around he probably would have been oblivious, but hey.
So he got up, getting ready to leave as he cleared his area, he heard a very familiar voice. Wait, Tyson? Who did he know that called Orca Ty-
"M-M-m... Morgan?" Sparky asked, wide eyed. "Captain?" The second name left his mouth before he could stop himself. He'd only seen the girl a few times after he'd left the team, after all, and besides, she'd always been the better player. He felt more comfortable calling people things that put them above himself anyway (that's what she said) because then he wouldn't screw up and offend them. "Oh my gosh."
Before he knew it he was in a hug with the girl. Hugs were still pretty new to Sparky, especially from anyone besides Orca. Why, how many hugs had he gotten his entire time at Firefox? Once from Teagan, some from Morgan, then all Orca, right? It was a crazy thing, hugs. You were all close to a person and they were warm and you had to not go 'uhhhhhhhh' into their ear or anything crazy like that. Sparky paid particular attention to the last one as he awkwardly, yet familiarly, returned the quick hug.
"I, um, I think, I, uh, things..." He thought back on the past twenty four hours (was it more than that?). It had been a crazy time, and he was pretty sure he'd almost died like three times. "Things are okay." Well that came out easier than he'd thought it would. "Yeah, um, we can catch up r-really soon!" Later, even. Well, he did have a sleepover with Orca, and he couldn't exactly invite her along. That was Inappropriate and she would totally do something crazy with Orca and he'd be humiliated for life and all in the name of 'fun girl talk sleepovers'.
As for the professional side of things.
"Ah, actually..." He lowered his voice, trying hard to calm down from the sudden appearance of old friends. "Talon's a little..." How could he put it? "Under the weather, at the moment, y-you could, ah... say." It was true, if you took 'under the weather' as 'in critical condition also in the middle of an unfortunate hiccup in an otherwise pleasant relationship (as far as Sparky knew anyway)'. "I'm not... entirely sure who would take your interview in his absence..." Their deputy was out of country, and so were many of the staff. He thought hard, and that left... The Mexican herbology professor, the... extremely attractive divinations professor that he avoided at all cost, the newer potions mistress who he hadn't actually met yet... and himself. He didn't know who out of those were most qualified. He would've pinned it on the Mexican, if he could speak english. Actually, he was pretty sure he'd met the Mexican when he'd been chatting with Morgan at a dance occasion of some sort. Weird coincidence, that.
"We could ask The Nurse Lady if he's up to it, though."
A voice called out to them, and he turned, blinking. Oh, it was that girl from their baseball game that never happened because I forgot I was next post. The use of his real name weirded him out, but then again, that was what he had told her his name was, hadn't he? Because he wasn't supposed to be in the school, so he'd come disguised and-- Yeah. Best secret agent ever. Or not.
Morgan, right. She hugged Sparky, and so Orca drew back a ways, giving her a friendly grin and a nod, not wanting to get between their little reunion thing. From the way the two spoke to each other, it sounded like they'd been friends. Crazy, Sparky had friends? Besides him, of course. He supposed it might've been different back then for the professor. Maybe when he'd been a student there'd actually been people who related to him and weren't immediately turned off by his habit of stuttering all over the place and generally being a pathetic flop. Not that he actually was pathetic, no, Orca knew from first-hand experience Sparky could be hella bad-ass when he wanted, but from just looking at the guy you could never tell.
Maybe they'd been more than friends. He felt a flicker of jealousy that he immediately stomped out. What was he getting jealous over? Just because she was a pretty girl, all hugging Sparky in her cute little skirt, and Sparky even had a nickname for her, and--
Yeah, okay, maybe it was jealousy. But not, for real, or anything. He was just being possessive again, or something. Stupid.
Wait, what? She was happy she'd been disowned? Wasn't that usually supposed to be, like, a bad thing? Then again, maybe getting disowned in the magical world was one of things he just hadn't caught onto yet. Maybe it was like one of those things where wizardfolk liked a certain muggle custom and so they tried to adopt it but got it all wrong, so like getting disowned was more akin to like muggles finding out your dad just put you on the will to receive the house after they died and your siblings only got the furniture and you're like 'haha suckers' and they never speak to you again but you don't care 'cause you've got the family house and you throw parties in it every weekend and life is good.
Okay, maybe that was a stretch, but still.
A curious look entered the lycan's seafoam-green eyes when Sparky spoke about Talon. Under the weather?
In-ter-est-ing.
"We could ask The Nurse Lady if he's up to it, though."
Orca blinked. "Like... right now? All of us together?" That, that probably wasn't the best idea. If Tally was already sick or whatever, the added stress of seeing a GD lycan in his school could only make things worse. He ran a hand back through his hair, tousling it even further than it already had been. "Ehh, I might just... stay here or somethin' then, 'til you guys get back." He put on a bright smile, tipping his head to one side. "It'll give y'all a chance to catch up, or whatever."
...Was that real silver on her leg? Ah, well. Long as she didn't try to like kick him in the face or any nonsense, he should be fine. Right?

Oh dear, she had interrupted something, hadn't she? A date, perhaps? Even though she was no longer officially a member of the Pendragon family, she felt herself wanting to back off again, and become as polite and distant as she usually was. All those years of etiquette training hadn't quite worn off yet, and she felt terribly embarrassed for just barging in on them, even if this was (sort of) a public place.
The news about Talon stopped Morgan's polite smile in its tracks, though. She knew that it must be serious, because the nursing staff here was really good. They'd pieced her back together after she'd fallen fifty feet on a broom, and she'd hardly had a scar to show for it. "If he isn't up to seeing me, I'll come back later, when he's feeling better," she started, feeling absolutely foolish. How presumptuous was she, to just to march in here and expect a job? "And, Sparky, how about we catch up some other time? I certainly don't want to be in the way if you've got plans..."
Her gaze strayed to Tyson for a moment. He and Sparky were just so darn cute together. She wished she could just gush over that fact with them, but knew it would probably only embarrass them, especially Sparky. "So, how about tomorrow? Meet me in town? I'm renting a flat in Drakborough. Wait a moment, and I'll get the address for you." She fished a quill and a scrap of parchment out of her bag, and quickly jotted down the address. "I'm sorry I don't know what your teaching schedule is like, so just come whenever you have the time. If you'd like to come too, Tyson, you're more than welcome, of course."
