Dempsey was restless. He didn't feel like staying in one place for too long, he paced back and forth, trying to figure out what the best course of action to take to thwart his boredom. He snapped his fingers, and a grin spread across his face. The arch.
"That's where I'll go, there has to be something going on today," Dempsey said as if talking to someone.
He began to make his way through the castle. Ducking and weaving through the halls and avoiding other students. Dempsey pushed his way through a final hallway and the Arch stood waiting for him. Looking grand and magnificent in the sunlight.
What's going to happen today? Dempsey stood unsure of what to do next. He acted on impulse and walked swiftly to the Arch, leaning against the wall, crossing his arms and closed his eyes. A small breeze found its way to his hair. He let out a small, satisfied sigh. Dempsey began to get lost in his thoughts. He began to daydream, daydreaming he was on an adventure. Where he had successfully cured the boredom.
He opened his eyes. An adventure...the only thing left is to gather a few people and begin it.

OOC: I'm dreadfully late and also dreadfully out of practice, but I've just reemerged from a long college-induced hiatus and thought this was better than starting a new thread. This concludes my unnecessary introduction. BIC:
Ivory had thought that taking a walk around the grounds would be fun. Onyx disagreed. What else is new. As they approached the Arch from the grounds, Ivory was glaring at her fraternal twin from behind big pink sunglasses, a few wisps of her blonde hair escaping their ponytail and blowing across her face; and Onyx was glaring pointedly away, fingers jammed into her grey shorts and her long black pigtails flickering across her face, the odd red streak reminding her that she needed to re-do her highlights soon.
In the midst of seeking anything to look at except Ivory, she landed on the only other sentient being in the vicinity besides her sister. She'd never seen him before--but then, she'd been spending a lot of time in the library and off campus lately.
"Hey--" she directed her steps toward the pacing student, black Converse slapping the stones-- "I'm Onyx. Mind helping me ignore my sister for a bit?"
Ivory shot Onyx a look. "Hmph," she said, and promptly turned to look out over the lake rather pointedly. She had been out-socialized by her normally misanthropic sister, and she didn't take defeat well.

Dempsey's eyes snapped up to see a girl walking towards him. He lifted his head a slight degree, he was still leaning against the wall with his arms crossed and one foot was bent and resting on the wall he was leaning on. He noticed another girl close to her, looking away out over the lake.
"I'm Carruguin Rucar, but call me Dempsey." Dempsey introduced himself with his full name, he took in Onyx's request. His eyebrow rose, ignore her sister? He supposed that the other girl who was there was her sister. She didn't look very happy. An arguement? He decided that it was best to leave himself out of that.
"Sure, I suppose I could help you." Dempsey agreed a little cautiously, hoping to not rouse another conflict at his expense.

Onyx kept a bemused eye on Ivory, but she was much more amused at her latest source of entertainment. He was eying Ivory like she was a timebomb that might explode without warning.
"She's not going to bite you or anything." Onyx raised an eyebrow and smirked. "She's trying to outlast me. Who can ignore the other the longest. She always loses--has since we were kids--she's too social."
The darker of the Evremonte twins reclined against the stone banister. "So, Dempsey." She was out of practice. How do you make conversation? Fortunately, she had the advantage of not knowing anything about the other person. He looked like a Slytherin, but then, one could claim that she did. And she was the worst guess of age she knew. She told a professor to get out of the way once, thinking she was a second year. Merlin knows how she ended up in Ravenclaw. Ivory had the social skills and the smarts. Onyx just got the bitter sarcasm. Right, conversation.
"So Dempsey. Tell me three interesting things about yourself." She pushed her bangs out of her eyes. It was a bad conversation starter, but it was one step up from the weather. "Start with how the heck you got 'Dempsey' out of Carri--whatever."

He gave her a little smile. And then laughed.
"Sorry, but if the goal is to completely ignore your sister, wouldn't talking about her kind of...put you out of the 'game'? Dempsey asked. "That's sort of giving them acknowledgement."
He contained himself. Returning to his original position against the wall and then felt serious.
How Dempsey was gotten out of Carruguin. He took a deep breath and answered Onyx's question.
"My baby sister used to call me Dempsey. She couldn't say my name." Dempsey felt his chest tighten when he mentioned her, it had been the first time in a while since he talked about her. "Her name was Kilia, she died when she was 4."
In his worry that Onyx would think he was another one of those cry baby older siblings, which he was to a point, he defended her death.
"It wasn't murder if that's what you're thinking. Kilia had a brain bleed which caused massive seizures. One day her little body was just tired of fighting whatever was wrong and she passed away in her sleep." Dempsey said, a little tonelessly and passively.
He laughed again, to try and lighten the mood.
"Don't worry, I'm not gonna get all emotional on you. She died and that's the end of it."
Post by Ivory and Onyx on May 28, 2011 20:27:44 GMT -5
"Isn't that giving acknowledgement?"
Onyx chuckled, which she didn't do often. Laugh, often; snicker, regularly--usually at firstyears--even giggle, on [rare] occasion, but this was pretty definitively a chuckle. Dempsey was going on to say something else but, in true Onyx fashion, she started to steamroll it:
"Ha, yeah, maybe a bit, but she still thinks I'm winning so--"
Crap. Of all the conversation starters, she had to pick the dead sister. She felt like one of those people who laugh at dead-baby jokes, the people she usually looked down on judgmentally.
"I'm sorry to hear that--I mean, I know everyone says that, but--well the same thing happened to my grandpa--"
Yep. Keep rambling, that's a surefire way to weasel out of an awkward situation. Especially when you compare the untimely death of a four-year-old to the natural passing of an 82-year-old man. Onyx stopped mid-sentence, eyes plastered to the stone floor of the archway. She realized her mouth was open, so she closed it.
Her eyes flicked back to Dempsey's face.
"There's no good way out of this pit I've dug for myself, so can we change the subject? I'm not trying to downplay your family tragedy or whatever, I'm just a terrible grief counselor. I'm better at biting sarcasm.
"Let's start with why you're standing in the Arch by yourself on a nice day. I'm here because She-of-Whom-I-Will-Not-Speak still hasn't figured out that not everyone thinks that a brisk post-breakfast walk by the lake is a good way to start the day. I might have told her so in ... less than complimentary terms."

Dempsey could tell she was starting to feel awkward. Trying to compare the death of his sister to her grandfather. He gave her a sly smile.
"Relax, I don't care at all. Sounds a little heartless but it's a bit better than caring too much to the point that you're always in a depression." Dempsey said with a small sigh. Even Dempsey was starting to feel awkward. He hated that subject being brought up, it always made everyone feel...weird. So they'd leave.
"I'm here at the Arch because I'm plotting the deaths of millions because I'm a murderer in disguise..." Dempsey said with all seriousness, there was some truth in what he said, just minus the plotting.
Less than complimentary terms...sounds evil. He liked evil.
"Please...elaborate on the 'less than complimentary terms." Dempsey said grinning.

Onyx shrugged. "Sounds like my average afternoon. You know, between Charms and Potions, I like to indulge in a little world domination, with a healthy dose of mass slaughter. You know." She laughed. Most people looked at her weird when she unleashed her rather morbid sense of humor.
"As for the exact terms ... well it's pretty easy to offend Ivory. I have to stay away from 'your mom' stuff because--well--twins, but," the darker-complected twin cast an eye toward her blonde counterpart, who was utterly failing to disguise her listening in on the conversation--Onyx had never yet missed an opportunity to mess with Ivory's head.
"But I started with all of the useful things I could be doing instead of walking, and then I made a smooth transition into having to watch her legs jiggle while we walked, and how she wouldn't have to walk so much if she would just cut back on how many muffins she eats at breakfast." Ivory was hooked--Onyx went in for the kill. "I mean, that guy she sits behind in Transfiguration every single day was staring at her like she was some kind of bottomfeeder."
Ivory made an indignant noise, like a kitten when you step on its tail, just barely resisting the urge to whip around and yell at Onyx.
For her own part, Onyx leaned toward Dempsey, whispering behind her hand. "That guy wasn't even in the dining hall, that I saw. Sorry if you were expecting more rainbow-colored language--everyone swears; I prefer to be more insidious. I'm also only whispering like this so she'll get suspicious. How are your massacre plans coming?"

Dempsey jumped at the sudden reaction from the blond girl. It was the most unnatural sound he had heard in a while, sounded like someone wasn't very happy. He smirked at Onyx's dark joke. World domination. That's a new one.
"Sounds like a sibling...rivalry." Dempsey grinned, conflict always made him seem...giddy. Just the thought that a confrontation would ensue made him wish he could just jump to that part. But where would the fun be in that? It's always best to know why a fight had begun. Nobody likes to go into things blind.
He leaned in instinctively when Onyx whispered to him.
Massacre plans....
He pretended to think with difficulty. Like he was having trouble forming his thoughts into words. He leaned in closer to Onyx, and stared into her face.
"Well...I was thinking about torturing orphans this afternoon to get the ingredients neccessary for homemade ketchup. Everyone knows orphan blood and puppy tears are whats needed." Dempsey gave a dark smile to Onyx. He laughed darkly.
Dempsey remembered when he was a child that he found a secret joy in making the other children cry when he was at the playground. He remembered watching his best friend die when he was 5, and not even caring. He found himself wishing that it he who had brought his friend to his end. Dempsey didn't deny that he was demented, but when you grew up abused by your father you tended to enjoy inflicting pain on others, in hopes that the others would know your pain.

Onyx stared straight back at Dempsey, leaning toward him a little--she lost her sense of personal space a long time ago. Her face was utterly deadpan, one eyebrow slightly raised, as she continued to whisper behind her hand,
"Your ketchup will go perfectly with my unicorn steaks. Let me run and squeeze the tears out of some happy faeries to make wine and we'll have dinner."
She stole another glance at Ivory, whose head was half-turned toward the chatting pair--she was forgetting to ignore them. Unless Onyx was wrong--and she rarely was when it came to Ivory--the blonde twin was about two minutes from breaking point, and the eruption would be like Fourth-of-July fireworks.
Onyx snapped her eyes back to Dempsey, whose face was still invading the normal Western speaking distance. She wasn't sure if this was a convoluted game of chicken or not, but just in case--she certainly wasn't going to be the first to back down.
[OOC: Augh; late, short, and uninteresting post--you got the raw end of all the sticks, sorry. This is all I've got in me at the moment.]

(OOC: Don't sweat it. I'm kinda late too xD)
Dempsey enjoyed Onyx. Her state of thinking was very much like his own. And it was very rare when someone returned with an equally disturbing statement such as hers, to a thought like his.
Delightful.
"Dinner at 7?" Dempsey asked, his eyes squinting slightly. Making him look a little evil. "I'll have the table set and waiting for you."
Dempsey didn't know if she would take that offensively, but she did say to try and ignore her sister, and what better way than to look like you might be getting close to a guy. And even if she did. it wouldn't take too much time to apologize for taking the joke too far. He didn't like to be outshown by a girl.
"This'll be a dinner for two correct?" Dempsey asked innocently. "I have no problem adding a third chair to the table, and waiting for the both of you if it's not."
It was instinct for him to try and not leave anyone out. And who knows, if they get into an arguement he can at least say he tried to invite the other girl too...Ivory wasn't it?

Onyx had been doing so well keeping a straight face, but now she couldn't help cracking a grin. She couldn't have created a better set-up for ticking off Ivory if she'd planned it ahead of time--Dempsey was playing right along with the joke and she could practically feel the steam rolling out of Ivory's ears. She could have counted down to the explosion.
Onyx kept a sidewise eye on Ivory, whose eyes were boring a hole into a spot a few yards away on the lawns, but whose ear was riveted to the conversation behind her. Her fists were clenched in her lap, and her jaw was tight like a spring about to release. Onyx gave Dempsey a "watch-this" look and raised her voice so that Ivory could hear every word.
"No," she said throatily, "dinner for two should be perfect."
She held up three fingers and ticked them off: three, two--boom.
"ONYX!" Ivory was on her feet with a furious stomp. In a heartbeat she stomped across the archway and right into her fraternal twin's face. "Onyx, I don't know what your game is or what's going on in your twisted head or... or... or what," she hissed as though Dempsey couldn't hear, "but you better shut up right this minute or--"
Onyx face was fixed in a smirk that didn't shrink an inch from Ivory's onslaught. "Or what? What's it to you if I talk to new people? I thought you wanted me to be less sociopathic."
Ivory's eyes narrowed to a seething glare as she tried to come up with a better answer than "Because I said so." She opened her mouth for a few false starts before launching a fresh tirade. "But you don't even know him! You can't just rope people into your stupid vendettas because they're there--dinner? I don't even know what that conversation was, but--but--" she ran out of arguments again. "You don't know him!"
Onyx remained unfazed. "Yes I do. His name is Carruguin but he goes by Dempsey. He has the same morbid sense of humor I do and is absurdly strict on the rules of ignoring people."
"Yeah, so what year is he?" She sized the boy up. "Where's he from? What was he up to before he came to spy on sibling arguments at the Arch? Hm?"
Onyx was put out. She waited a long, pained moment before she answered woodenly, "I don't know."
"Hmph." Ivory made a decisive squeak and gave Onyx a gloating look. She gave Dempsey the same look just for good measure before extending her hand haughtily.
"I'm Ivory Evremonde, by the way."

"I'm a 3rd year, I'm from Stalingrad, Russia, but I enjoy making myself sound American. And if I do recall, I was in the Arch before you both showed up, and Onyx was the one who brought me into your sibling arguement, I wasn't spying." Dempsey said the last sentence a little harshly.
He looked at her hand as she spoke her name.
"Carruguin Rucar. Call me Dempsey." He said icily, shaking her hand. Dempsey didn't want to be mean to her, but her attitude brought it out. It was habit for him to try and match someones attitude and actions. Even if he was a little meaner than they were.
Dempsey crossed his arms in annoyance. He could start to see why Onyx had a small disliking of her sister. Ivory had to rationalize everything. Clearly this girl hasn't done anything out of the ordinary. No ounce of wanting to...live, even in the smallest way. Well...he could attempt to change that.
"Ivory....have you ever tried 'living it up'? You know, going out on a limb and NOT trying to rationalize everything you come across?" Dempsey gave a dark grin, forgetting that Ivory didn't have a morbid sense of humor, "You know...I can help you loosen up a bit. I know a place where a few orphans won't be missed..."
Post by Ivory and Onyx on Jun 28, 2011 22:42:43 GMT -5
Ivory dropped Dempsey's hand like it were ice and she didn't want it to melt on her.
"I suppose you're right," she backtracked--but not humbly. "You were here first. I'm not accusing you." The blonde twin gave Onyx a significant look.
"Have you ever tried 'living it up'?
One blonde eyebrow raised skeptically. She tried to picture this kid a year from now, "living it up" at school while Ivory and her sister would be graduated, taking on the world. She didn't even have time to refuse before Onyx snorted:
"Yeah, right. Ivory thinks 'living it up' means a shopping trip in New York." Ivory shot her sister a look--she didn't think she was that narrow. Onyx shot a look back. "Oh come on, you've always been the good one: good at school, good at sports, good at people, good at meeting everyone's expectations. You--"
"Where were those orphans?" Ivory's eyes were on Dempsey again.
"What was that?" Onyx asked, staring... not quizzically, more like the castle was wrong way up.
Ivory kept her gaze on Dempsey. "What did you have in mind? I want to go." Her face was determined, and just a tiny bit nervous.
Onyx was still confused--Ivory couldn't be serious. This would either be really funny or really terrible, and either way she needed to be there: to either point and laugh or pick up the pieces. She shifted her gaze from her sister to Dempsey.
"So ... if anyone asks, this orphanage attacked us first."*
Post by Gabriel Orion on Jun 29, 2011 0:06:26 GMT -5
"Seriously!?" Dempsey asked incredulous. He was shocked but equally impressed. "Now we're talkin'!"
Dempsey felt a rush go through him. He knew just the place. Stalingrad...the orphanages there needed to have some room made, and for the right amount of sweet talking, the women who worked there would turn the other cheek.
"Now, I need a promise from you both. Whenever we get to the orphanage in Stalingrad, I'm not going to be the only one torturing. There's no turning back once we get there, so you need to decide right here, right now, if this is what you want to do. Because I'm fine with you two being uncomfortable with this. I'll understand completely and I won't give you greif about it either." Dempsey's voice and face was stern, but serene at the same moment. He didn't like forcing others into doing things they didn't want to do.
Dempsey took a few steps away from his post on the wall. His black pants barely making a swishing sound but his shoes making rather loud footfalls. He turned and faced his twin friends. He pushed back his red hair and took turns looking them both in the face. Looking for an ounce of uncertainty.
"I give you the liberty right now, of your own freewill, to back out or go through. If you choose to back out, no greif will me made on you by me, I can't say the same for your sibling. I give you my word. If you wish to go then simply take my hand." Dempsey extented his hand outward towards them. "The decision is yours and yours alone to make."
