"Jaime! We here. Wake up."
Tyrone Ellis pulled his bro from the carriage.
"Da house el's gonna take da luggage to da rooms. Keep yer wand an' stuff wit ya. Dunno what we'll need. We need to get to da rooms an' get sitchuuated. We need to get used to da halls an' stuff here, so we dun get lost. You hear me, Jaime?"
The mid-afternoon sun beat down on him like they were in a fucking desert.
"I gotta see who else ya be roomin' wit. See if dey can look out for ya. Dunno why da administration sep'rated us in two diff houses, but we'll havta make it work. Le's go."
Aubrey found herself outside more often than usual today. She'd found, over her years of being a proud Ravenclaw, that her kind not only often stayed away from others, but quite often got so caught up in their studies that, unless it was a physical practical class, they stayed inside, as well. The past few days of playing with her hamster, however, had made her want to go outside with him. It was dangerous out there, both for him and herself, but she had no particular fear of the world around them. DJ Hammer Time, her Djungarian hamster, on the other hand, had plenty to fear. The good thing was that she was on his side. The bad thing was that she wasn't sure she knew a spell to make him invincible, but she wasn't about to tell him that.
She held him in her hand, where after several days of socialization and play, he had begun to rest a little easier in. She cupped him carefully, holding her other hand over him like a protective mother eagle. How protective an eagle could be over a hamster, she wasn't sure, but it certainly made herself feel better.
She was near the arch when a carriage approached, and she watched, aloof, as it deposited two (dark) children onto the campus. You didn't see many people of color in these parts, and though she held no particular prejudice against their kind, she was the curious sort.
She drew closer as they walked towards the school, depositing her hamster companion into the hamster ball she'd started to carry in her always-present messenger bag.
"Hello," She called towards them. "Welcome to Firefox University." Obviously, they were new.

Some redheaded chickadee tweeted up to the boys to introduce herself. Shit, manners like someone groomed to be the pres from a 1k neighborhood.
"'Lo, nice ta meet ya. Name's Tyrone, an' dis," he said, pointing his thumb behind him like pro hitchhiker, "is Jaime. Know who runs da houses an' stuff?"
His accent, or whatever that would be called, was immediately very prominent. It didn't take too much thought to decipher, but she had never had to actively deal with such a different dialect of her own language before. She twisted the cap to the hamster ball all the way on before depositing it, and DJ Hammer Time with it, back into her bag. He would have plenty of air, she wasn't worried about that, and there were still a couple little sunflower seeds inside the ball for him to snack on. She smoothed the front of her uniform after, chewing at the inside of her lip as she did so.
"The houses?" As far as she knew, there were no Heads of Houses like there had been in magic schools past. She supposed the best bet, at the moment, would be taking them to the Headmistress. She was a former Ravenclaw, and Aubrey held her in high regard. (The Deputy was, as well, but she preferred to forget about him.) Then again, maybe he wasn't exactly looking for a Head of House, but rather, someone to take them to their house? They were siblings, and she assumed that they would both be in the same house. It seemed to be common for those traits to run in families, after all. She tried to judge which house the pair had ended up in, but it was too soon. (Besides, assuming Slytherin would be racist.)
If this case was similar in any way to the other new students she had welcomed to the school, they generally seemed to show up after they had been sorted already. Perhaps it was just a matter of showing them to their house. Perhaps they would be Hufflepuffs. (That assumption was hopefully less racist.) She knew where the Hufflepuff Common Room was, after all, those Hufflepuffs weren't all that secretive. Or smart.
"It is very nice to meet you," She said, attempting a small smile as she extended her hand for a shake. "My name is Aubrey Kendaline, Fourth Year Ravenclaw. What house are you two in?" She asked, trying to make her voice sound more welcoming than her rather crisp default tone.
She ignored the urge to cringe a little at the slaughtering of her first name. It was quaint, really, if she took her pride out of it, and so she did her best to do so. However, it was already too late.
Her guess proved to be incorrect -- three times over. They were not both in the same house, and they were neither Hufflepuff or Slytherin. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw? She eyed the younger one for a moment. It definitely wasn't her first guess. Or her second guess. (Or even her third guess...) She could live with being wrong, however, and she trusted the Powers That Be to make the right decisions. If he was a Ravenclaw, then she was to welcome him readily into her home, her 'family'.
She finished her handshake with the older boy, pulling her tiny-looking hand away from his much bigger one. She smiled at him, briefly, and then turned to the younger one.
"I will definitely do that. Welcome to Ravenclaw, Jaime. I can show you to your house, but I am afraid I don't know where Gryffindor's Common Room is." It was a sad fact, that. She hated not knowing things when the information was needed, and seeing as they lacked an official welcoming committee, she felt that it was only fair that she knew where Gryffindor was located. That didn't mean, of course, that she wanted anyone else to know how to get to Ravenclaw Tower, but that was besides the point. "It is sort of a... House secret." She wondered how that would work with siblings. She had never known a split pair before.
"I am sure, however, that if we find a Gryffindor student, they would be happy to lead you to your Common Room."

House secret? Tyrone cringed. That sucked. He glanced at his young bro, who was probably smaller than a fucking hobbit. He'd beat the shit out of anyone who tried something wtih him.
"Dat so? Thanks so much, Obrey," he siad, stretching his bulldog-liek face into a grin.
"You are very welcome," she said, smiling. "Follow me, please." With that said, Aubrey turned around, leading her two charges towards the castle. She remembered the first time she had seen the castle. She had been younger, and admittedly a little dumber. She'd loved reading back then, as well, but she'd stuck to fantasy, sometimes going for books aimed more for young adults and bored housewives. Lately, however, she'd been reading for school work rather than pleasure, and the nature of the texts she read ended up much more technical than her younger self had been used to.
She felt a little nostalgia at the thoughts, and made a mental note in her mental planner to re-read some of her favorites sometime soon. She still loved to read, and a nice departure from the Real sounded wonderful.
It wasn't that long of a walk, and so they soon approached the main doors to the Castle.
"Welcome," she lamely repeated herself. She was no good at the whole grandiose entrance thing.
[I've contacted a certain Gryffindor someone about posting here soon.]
Emery Toynbee trotted along like she had a purpose, her massive ponytail bobbing along behind her. She had one strand of blood-red hair in her mouth and was chewing on it idly when she caught sight of the trio approaching the castle's doors. The Gryffindor's eyebrows shot up, and an expression of interest crossed her tanned face. She spat out the lock of hair, beginning to grin a little, as was her way.
One redheaded girl, and two dark-skinned boys. The former is what really caught her attention, and she allowed herself a nice, long look before she fully caught up, long legs eating up the distance between them without so much as breaking a sweat.
"Hello!" the American ex-athlete trumpeted, one hand raised in greeting. "New students, I take it? Need any help?"
