Cyan gathered his objects in front of him and settled down in a corner of the dungeons. He glanced back at the woefully locked door and then returned to the assortment before him.
He adjusted his fingers around the grip of his wand.
"Homorphus," he said, waving it over a familiar green purse. It seemed to shrug and then bloat. The golden clasp wiggled and loosened. Four stubby tendrils shot out from the sides, stretching and growing like some wicked tree branches. It gurgled and white slits appeared and opened into eyeballs before being overcome with the dark iris and stuff. A moment later sat a fully-formed toad.
He figured he should start this transfiguration assignment by untransfiguring what he did last time. He really needed his pet back, after all. Besides, he required his toad for his CoMC assignment. Why not begin two classes of assignments at once? (logos)
As a fifth-year student with good grades and pretty decent skill in transfiguration. He had undone transfigurations hundreds of times. (ethos)
Besides, practice here meant he could do better with transfiguration in the future and possibly become an animagus or help Nadia become an animagus. And, you know, he wanted to help Nadia really become an animagus. It was much better than her becoming a lycan, and he was really worried. Lycans led a dangerous life, and becoming one could even result in her death. And, you know, he just wanted to help her. There was nothing wrong with that. (pathos)
The amphibian appeared annoyed. Actually, was Tode a boy or girl?
"Hello, Tode," said Cyan. "For awhile, we'll be hanging out together, so don't, uh, get eaten or anything. You know, by Fernando's cat or anything."
He swallowed, shook his head with a sigh, and turned to... the other objects.
As the first was a purse, the second was a pillow. Yes, a pillow. It had feathers, okay?
"Pullus," he said, repeating the procedure with a flick. It stretched out, popping out a beak and webbed feet. Feathers stretched through the fabric, lengthening into down and flight feathers as needed. A moment and many ruffled feathers later, there stood a plain white goose. To Cyan, it appeared rather... irate.
If nothing else, Cyan knew his wizardly rhetoric. One could refute that claim by saying he had at least three more years of learning ahead of him, but....
Right. Well.
Cyan turned to the next one. It was a random gray slipper that might've gotten coffee or something dropped on it before. It had been alone, forgotten and friendless for at least a month in the slytherin common room. In other words, no one would miss it.
The fifth-year student glanced listlessly at the sitting slipper.
"Lapifors," he said, waving his wand over it. It twitched, ears popping out and flopping down. A cotton tail appeared as well, and four legs stretched out. Whiskers and beady eyes and a small quivering nose finished off the rabbit. Cyan glanced down at its white fur. It was a whitish-gray color with one large brown spot on one of the droopy ears. He transfigured into one of those rabbits that just looked like fluffy little cushions and had no cartilage or whatever to make their ears perk up.
He sighed, ruffling his hair. All was good. Three transfigurations done and--
Tode croaked ominously.
Cyan froze, turning slowly toward the goose.
Oh. Bloody. Crap.
After appraising the dearth of food in the dungeon, the pillow-goose decided to no longer conform with the otherwise civil behavior of the posse trapped in the dungeon.
There was a flurry of feathers (which then seemed to be ubiquitous in this dungeon) and Cyan dove in, attempting to block one very hungry pillow-goose from eating his pet.
"TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODE!"
