In a clearing of the infamous forest there lay a spider the size of a small sedan lay curled up and and dead, nothing but a hollow exoskeleton. Her killer moved among the trees above Spreading her steel cord strength silk from trunk to trunk as she created herself a home within this fantastic forest. so full of life, and therefore food.
Even after feeding on her brother she was still hungry. It was as she was imagining what kind of prey she would find here that she felt the air currents shift. There was someone or something watching her nearby. Let them watch she pretended not to notice. maybe if she was lucky she would get to sample the local cuisine.
The tree branch felt thick and steady beneath his paws as he paced along it, brush of a tail waving gently behind him. Wolves didn't really belong in trees, but he wasn't exactly just a wolf. When the branch tapered out he merely paused, then shifted forms easy as breathing, the gigantic white wolf giving way to a slender young male in the blink of an eye. His converses gripped a bit steadier than his paw pads had, thus allowing him to stomp out a bit farther. The wood groaned beneath his feet, beginning to bend, and, feeling somewhat merciful, he leapt to a new one.
The humongous dead spider beneath him drew barely a glance. He was more focused on the alive version, one which whittled itself a web without so much as asking permission. He put a hand on his hip, barely balanced where he stood, but rock steady all the same. "What," he stated, loud and clear, "the fuck." His tone suggested the spider was rude. She was several times his size, but the lycan lord remained unafraid all the same, his chin lifting as he sized her up. He was a goddamn lycan and above even that, he was the ruler of these goddamn woods. Even if a fuckin' dragon had to submit or get its scaly ass beat to shreds.
The spider had no real sensory organs for smell in stead it snse pharmones. and the fine hairs that covered her VW Bug sized body and legs sensed even the most miniscule changes in air pressure movement and vibrations which translated to sound for the spider. So she know what ever it was that was yelling at her had just changed it mass before revealing itself. She was, at the moment, Unfamiliar with lycans had no idea what they where, well she knew that they where food right? Just like anything smaller than her with a beating heart was
However what Widow saw with her main eyes was a human standing in a tree above him, looking at her as if she was to answer to him. The idea of her bowing to a human made her salivate for the human's blood. However she didn't attack. This creatures attitude and confidence made her second guess herself, for what if this thing had the power to back-up the boastful way he held himself. The lack of fear was something to fear... at times.
The spider returned the air of confidence. "Welcome to my Parlor." Cam a very hoarse voice followed by a series co clicks. "Care to stay for dinner?" She asked in a simlar fashion. the clicking his was a laugh at her own jokes.
The spider didn't seem scared, which didn't surprise him. Shit, even he, Orca, didn't think he was terrifying in the least. The eight-legged horror suddenly spoke, making the lycan blink, though he held himself no differently. Ohhh. It was one of those. Fenrir had a pal like that, way back when.
Holy shit, had it made a joke? The lycan cocked his head, but grinned nonetheless, never one to depreciate the value of humor, however shitty it was. "I ate earlier, thanks." His dark yellow eyes briefly passed over the body on the floor, then rose back to her. "Who are you, and why are you in my forest?" The last traces of outright hostility had left his tone, but not his stance. He still looked ready to pounce and conquer at any given moment. Orca was curious, though, and that particular emotion was much stronger than his desire to alpha up this bitch.
Well at least his bad spider puns where appreciated. He kept his main eyes on the person that was talking as the other six scanned his surroundings Very few things caught this spider by surprise. The creature before him then began interrogating him as if he was trespassing and was calling this his woods. That just irked the spider. What claim did a flesh sack like him have over this forest. Howere, widow remained on the road of caution.
Well those that have seen me and lived have dubbed me the White Widow, due to my markings and reputation." A reputation built on the fact that no male had ever lived long enough to successfully breed with her. Each made a very tasty meal. "As for why I am in this particular forest... Wel; there is food and space both of which i need if i wish to live go forth and multiply." the spider said.
The it asked its own questions. "Now that i have answered to you you will answer me this, Who is it that is so bold enough as to interrupt the building of my nest. and exactly what makes this your forest?" That very last question had a hint of threat weaved into it.
"What up, Widow," came Orca's laconic response. She apparently planned to take up residence in his lovely little forest and make a ton of spider babies. Orca wasn't so sure how he felt about that, but he kept his mouth shut nonetheless, ready to hear the APPARENTLY MALE creature out entirely before he passed any sort of judgment.
He waited a moment before responding, answering on his own time rather than hers. If she wanted to live there, she'd have to learn some goddamn humility.
Finally, the lycan gave her a look. "Calm your tits, buggy. I'm the goddamn ruler of these woods, that's who." To back up that statement, he summoned the wolf again, switching forms so fast it was as if he'd never been human at all. His ruff bristled and lifted, fur spiking out to make him look bigger than he was (protip: Orca was already a very big wolf). His tail was carried high, signifying his status, and his head was lowered, golden eyes locked onto the eight-legged monstrosity before him. The wolf's lips rose and his snout wrinkled as he unleashed a particularly pointed snarl. The message was quite clear even without him saying it aloud: submit or be squished.
Great, this human was actually a giant wolf and wolves, she knew, where pack animal. She thought she felt other presences shortly after he arrived
So it seemed that the widow was in a bit of a bind. She had just finished a lengthy fight with her equally vicious sibling, and though she had gained back the energy to build her web she was still recovering from a few injuries. There was still some of her brothers venom lingering in her system making her slow, and and her rear left leg, and second to front right leg had cracks in their exoskeleton. Both would be healed with a single molting, but she was in no position to fight.
She backed up ever so slightly and began raising her front baring her razor sharp fangs, dripping with venom in defense none the less. "I do not wish to fight wolf, but i will not hesitate to defend myself or my web. You see the carcass below us? He was my brother. Killed by me for this spot and i have no problem doing it again." She said her voice laced with anger, threat, and the tiniest hint of fear" She hadn't raised to her full height as she seriously didn't like the odds.
He watched with no slight amount of glee as the creature retreated a step. She smelled of fear. Good. He kept still a moment, teeth still gleaming out from between black lips, then he straightened. His ears perked forward, and he regarded her with solemn golden eyes. Abruptly, the lycan sprang forward to meet her, landing on the branch closest to where she was situated. The change came simultaneous with his leap, so that when he hit the branch, black and white shoes gripped the bark, rather than the pads of his paws.
The lycan stood easy, thumbs lackadaisically tucked into the pockets of his pants. He would have preferred to remain wolf, but he wasn't sure if she spoke body language. Plus, it was hard to get some things across. Wolves were not known for their sarcasm or dry wit, after all.
"Like I said," Orca drawled. "I'm the alpha, here. All things in these woods obey me. If you plan on staying here, that's fine." His eyes narrowed, and he leaned forward, slightly, honey-colored eyes fixed on the Acromantula. "So long as you know who's boss, I don't think we'll have a problem." His posture reeked of the same mix of resolution and assurance that had made him declare himself Lord in the first place. The lycan smiled. "Y'get me?"
Widow was unnerved no creature she had ever met had ever come this close to her fangs with absolutly no fear. Her Fangs where her lifeline and she fancied the as terrifyingly deadly weapons but to have this thing jump practically in her face, With no fear, but instead an air of dominance made her fangs seem meek. Logically she was sure she could rip this pup apart but she knew that would be the end of her.
He had earned her respect enough so that she though she ought to warn him. "Your confidence makes you what you are, no one i know would get with striking distance of my fangs and start issuing orders. You have gained some respect, however..." Her voice began to grow very serious and very sinister. "I you or any of you pack get caught in my web, don't you dare think i will release you." She lightened back up, "So i would seriously watch your step if i where you. she said kindly indicating that she had a strand of web attached to the tree he had landed on.
"I assume that you will not touble me about my nest then?" She used the word nest as a term for home not a place to breed but it could be if there was a male out her daring and quick enough. but she would cross that bridge when she came to it.
That grin of his, near infamous in its tendency to pop up in situations where it most certainly did not belong, only grew as the spider responded. A fight with her sounded extremely entertaining, in all honesty, but he wasn't really in the mood. "Touch my pack," he said coolly, still looking like he was some stupid kid out on a lark rather than the lycan Alpha, "and I will rip you apart. I will tell them to give you your space, however."
Creakily, the gears underneath that tousled mane of hair spun. A dangerous ally, but useful. He needed all the help he could get. He spun on his heel and walked a pace away, looking out over his domain with an air of satisfaction. One hand left his pocket to wave idly back at her. "Hunt what you like, excepting my kind, and - oh, right." He spun to face her again, arms floating outward, as though to balance himself. "Students of the school are off-limits. If a human says they have my permission to be here, you leave them alone, too."
He gave her a warm look, like one might give a particularly feisty pet. "The more humans forget about this place, the better. Elsewise, you know them human-types. They'll come with fire and magic, and then we'll all be fucked!" His hands went up, to further express his point. "Whoo! Eat whatever else you like, though. Some drunk motherfucker comes in here, thinks it's funny to piss on a tree in the forbidden woods, 'ay, he should'a known better."
My, he hadn't been this talkative in quite a while. It only served to show what a great mood he was in.
Widow did not answer right away as she considered what the wolf had said. She had her web and as far as she was concerned anything stupid enough to get trapped wasn't exactly deserving of life. And she had tasted human only a few times. Intelligent prey was fun to hunt, however she was but one acromantula sharing her home with an entire pack. of giant wolves.
I accecpt your terms to a point. I will not hunt the children nore your family. However this web i'm making is my home my home my rules. Anything trapped in its sticky coils, canine, man-child, or anything bigger than a rabbit is food. So i suggest if you want to keep those kiddies safe you get to them before they get too close." She warned, then she addressed something else.
"From the way you speak of the humans it would seem you have had some unpleasant experiences with them." She queried. hoping to get more information. She need to know all the threats to her livelihood,
It seemed he would have to keep an eye on this place; miss buggy apparently had a hard time hearing. The lycan's stare got hostile before he checked himself. Yellow eyes went momentarily skyward before they returned down to Widow. Yep, yep, he'd watch her close to make sure she didn't overstep her boundaries. He had plenty of friends that wouldn't mind helping out, though. Being lord of the woods had its perks, after all.
Orca gave the Acromantula a sunny smile. "I've had both pleasant and unpleasant," he told her. "You ever fought a wizard before, miss buggy?"
she thought on the question a moment. "Well i'm not all to sure. I know my brothers and sisters have, and I'm almost sure the man that stole us as eggs was a wizard but then his death came too quickly for me to be sure." She said remembering that day when she and her siblings tasted their first human.
"Though I'm guessing you have." said the spider to the wolfman.
There were more of these things? Ugh. The disgust didn't reach to his face, but he felt icky nonetheless. Once he'd happened upon a spider nest and, curious, had poked it. It was the worst thing ever, and he would never, ever, do it again. Now, imagine that same scenario, but with fuel-efficient small-car-sized versions?
He almost shuddered.
"Yes," he said simply, to answer the spider's question. He nearly left it at that, but his good mood still had a hold of him, and after a beat, he expounded on that affirmative.
"Sometimes for fun-" he thought of Gabby with a small grin, "-and sometimes because they've got a wand in your face and they're trying to float you upside down so they can use their goddamn magic to get all your memories from you, or some other bullshit. They're hella cheaters. Don't matter how big or scary you might be, miss buggy. Even a student could stop you in your tracks and make you do a dance." The lycan looked wryly amused. "Safer, much, much, much safer, to just stay the hell away."
Now the spider was trying to wrap its head around what Orca was saying. It sounded as if humans, well wzards and witches, of all ages where dangerous, stupid , and just plain rude. Tey this lycan was telling her not to eat the little ones foolish enough to get ensnared within her home. To release them and have to spend more time and energy repairing her web. Most of that bit was speculation, but anyway, Mr. wolf here wanted her to just leave them alone.
"So the magical humans are dangerous and irksome, yet you want me and everyone else in this forest to just run away and act like it's not happening. To the little kiddies alone?" She said she really really didn't like the idea. Humans where intelligent. They come into the forest and find that its okay that there are no consequences for them they would get bolder and with boldness they become even more dangerous. "Then fine." she said with holding her objections. "But tell me, what keeps them from walking in here like they own the place when it is we that own it?
