Wandering into the dance hall, staying as far from the main crowd as possible was Arc. He really didn't want to be near half that many people at once, as it would make him claustrophobic and probably pass out.
He was dressed in oversized navy blue dress robes which had once belonges to his father and was causing a bit of a distraction already due to the fact that he still carried his staff around with him.
Sticking around near the refreshments bar, he looked around quietly for Daisy, whom was supposed to meet him here.
Daisy had been flatly embarrassed when she had been asked by Arc to the dance. She had never really had childhood friends and boyfriends before, though the loving relationship she saw between her parents had impressed upon her from an early age that in fact boys did not have cooties.
Still, she was rather nervous as she dressed herself for the dance, choosing a set of white frilled dress robes finished with a warm yellow belt. The colors were reminiscent of those of a daisy, her namesake, and to further demonstrate that concept she placed a single daisy in her hair.
When she arrived for the dance, she to struggle to find Arc. She was easily the smallest person there and seeing over the sea of heads and bodies was a feat in itself, but Arc's staff served as an unlikely savior. She could spot that in a crowd anywhere.
"Hi Arc," she said, walking up shyly. She shuffled her feet and blushed heavily, smiling all the same, not quite sure what one did when they had a date to a dance.
"YAY!" Arc exclaimed loudly when Daisy found him, "you look awesome!" he commented, "While I look like a gnome wearing a rain poncho." he said in reference to the fact that he was very small for his age while his father, from whom he had been handed down these robes, had been rather tall for his age.
Looking down and seeing his hair looked a bit messy in his reflection in one of the spoons net to him, he dunked his hands in a pitcher of water, bringing them to his head in an attempt to slick back his hair, followed up by mistaking someone's shawl for a hand towel to dry his hands. Of course, his hair was still messy, just now messy AND wet.
"So," Arc said, seeming to think he had fixed up everything, "What do you want to do?"
Daisy blushed crimson at the compliment, smiling her usual grin edged with the tiniest bit of embarrassment. "You look cute too," Daisy said, and it was an accurate description in her mind. The oversized robe and wet hair were silly, but that was only part of Arc's charm in her mind.
Daisy gasped as he wiped his hands on someone's shawl, and she hoped that it was not silk so the water would do no harm.
"Umm... I guess we could try dancing, though I've never danced before." Daisy shrugged, not quite sure what to do. "There's also lots of good sweets to eat. We could get a bite before we go out there. It would give the Professors a chance to finish their dance." Then, with a final thought, Daisy giggled.
"Oh...." okay, Arc said as she mentioned spells. He didn't even know why he would bother trying to use magic at all at something as normal as a dance, he only carried his staff as a habit and a bit of extra support if he needed.
"you know I'm not much of a dancer, but if you want we can go give our professional opinion on the desserts bar!"
Daisy was extremely happy with his response. She absolutely adored sweets and she would use any occasion as an excuse to dig into a pile of cakes if she thought she could get away with it.
"I agree!" she said, her voice expressing relief at not having to dance. She would've if Arc had wanted to, but the fact that they had the same preference as to what to do made her immensely happy.
"We could see who can finish and entire treacle tart first!" Daisy's eyes glinted mischeviously as she challenged Arc to the eating contest. She grabbed one for herself and handed another to Arc, hoping he would take her up on the challenge.
Without wasting the valuable time it would take to respond to her, he grabbed the treacle tart and made an attempt to cram the entire thing in his mouth in the same motion, "imph winfing" he managed to get out, barely able to be understood.
Daisy's face lit up with indignation, and she immediately began to stuff the tart into her mouth, stuffing her face with impressive speed.
"CHEAFER!" She exclaimed through a mouth of tart, managing not to spray bits out of her mouth in the process of expressing her indignation at his head start.
Daisy glared at him with in much intensity as she could manage while cramming tart into her mouth, which wound up little more than a childish evil-eye. It was all good-natured though, and she had to be very careful not to choke on the tart with laughter.
Just as Arc was finishing, Daisy was finishing too, and she swallowed her last bite just a moment after the boy declared that he was finish. The small girl crossed her arms and pouted.
"I woulda won if you hadn't cheated," she said, though she was having trouble maintaining her feigned frown. She poked him in the side, and then couldn't stop herself from releasing a giggle.
"What next?" she asked, looking over the array of sweets on the table.
"I never cheated! you just eat too slow." He said, pausing for a moment before prodding her back. "What next..." he said, thinking this over for a bit, as there was a huge and seemingly endless bar stretched before them, "I wonder how many things we could stick on an ice cream sundae before it became more toppings than actual ice cream?"
Daisy giggled as Arc poked her back. She was quite ticklish and even the slightest poke was enough to set her off, if done enough times. She imagined by the end of the night, however, that the same poke would prove to be a nauseating jab into an over full stomach.
"Ooh, ice cream!" the girl exclaimed, looking over all of the interesting flavors, which were labled by little plaques. She definitely wasn't going for the every flavor ice cream, but she didn't want to settle for anything conventional either. Eventually, she went for a scoop of traditional vanilla next to a scoop of a bright green kind which seemed to be acid pop flavored.
"Well, let's see..." Daisy said, thinking aloud. She started by grabbing a cookie and crushing it over the top. Her sundae was officially on the way to being more toppings than ice cream.
"What kind of ice cream do you like?" she asked Arc, trying to make conversation considering that they weren't eating quite yet.
"Let's go for this one!" Arc exclaimed, taking a big scoop of some anonymous ice cream that was a swirl of darker colors, meaning it probably had chocolate or caramel or something else similar in it and plopping it in the same bowl Daisy was using. "I hope you don't mind sharing, but it really is a big enough bowl for two..."
Reaching over, he grabbed the first thing he could find to put on top which happened to be from a bowl of Berti Botts every flavor beans, which he sprinkles over the top, making the sundae quickly turn into a rainbow of excitement.
"Of course we can share," Daisy said with a smile, nodding her head in approval at the other scoop he had decided to add. "It is definitely plenty. I think if we had a bowl each we'd get sick." Then again, the concoction they were piecing together at the moment might make them sick anyway.
Daisy was both delighted and revolted when Arc added the beans. She had never really cared much for dirt or boogeys in her ice cream, but perhaps everything else would cover their unpleasant flavor.
"If I get a pepper one in my bite of ice cream, I'm going to take your staff and smack you in the head with it," she threatened, shaking her fist at him menacingly. She put it down to add a heavy coating of caramel sauce to the top, along with a ladel-full of hot fudge.
"Awwww, but wouldn't that add to the surprise?" Arc said, "I'm hoping for something really really nasty, just for the heck of it. doesn't mean the rest of it isn't good."
Reaching and grabbing a handful from a nearb fruit salad, he dropped them merrily on top. "I ownder if we'de get in any trouble for losing control of this and ending up with it on the floor..." he onwdered aloud.
