Students ran through the halls again, chattering gossip to one another and talking about their homework in certain classes. The staff at Firefox were at the top of their game with challenging and fun classes for new arrivals to attend. Things had gotten better while Talon was recovering in the Hospital Wing, and the Headmaster couldn't help but wonder as he strolled through the halls towards the Faculty Lounge: was the school better off in the long run with Sparky in charge?
He chuckled to himself at the thought. As much as he admired Sparky's talents, he knew that the increase in attendance and activity was his doing. Being constrained to his bed meant that he had been a captive audience when it came to paperwork and letters - even when he just wanted to get some sleep. Almost two months had passed since Talon had first been brought to the Hospital Wing by Roan Aliagh, and it had taken those full two months to get the Headmaster to where he was now. The very act of chuckling was crippling when he had first arrived. Now the only thing that he couldn't do was some of his more strenuous activities, such as intense magical combat.
Talon was excited to see the new staff. He hadn't yet met Beau Halloran or Arielle Bryane, but he'd heard good things about both of them and their resumes were top notch. Morgan Pendragon returning was also definitely a good sign, and he wanted to get in a word with Forgoil about his condition and the rather awkward outburst he had the first night Talon had been brought to the Hospital Wing. Still, all of the catching up would have to wait until after the meeting.
If the Headmaster had learned one thing before his long repose, it was that he needed to get the Staff more involved in the kind of work he did. If they felt like they had just as much a part in the well-being of the school as him, maybe he wouldn't have to keep firing them and hiring new replacements. Talon finally arrived at the entrance to the Faculty Lounge, which was now just a door. So few students and long teacher vacations meant that Talon had to cut back on the budget, and that meant that the Staff could no longer be provided room and board. What was previously a huge room for the Staff to live in was now just a lounge which could be accessed by anyone.
Even if it might've been rude.
He opened the door. Talon was wearing his normal purple robes, and he clutched a stack of books under his right elbow. It was his face, however, that was different. For one, he was completely bald. Even his eyebrows were missing. He had two or three large thick burn scars across his face, and the skin around them was tinted orange. His sapphire eyes were just as bright and full of life as ever, though.
Stepping inside, he realized he was the first one there. He put his books down on a podium at the front of the room, and removed his wand from his robes. His wand had almost not made it, and indeed it had been burnt down a few inches. The edges of the ebony wand were even darker than normal, charred and ashen. Still, the wand was in perfect working order, if a little worse for wear. Then again, so was he. Talon swung his wand in an arc, and the chairs scattered throughout the room snapped to attention. He motioned each of them to march to the center of the room, where they lined up in front of him. He made a motion as if to salute with his wand hand, and the enchantment he placed upon them ceased instantly.
He then motioned his wand towards a long rectangular table in the corner of the room, and with a quick snap of his hand as if cracking a whip, the table leaped off of its legs and hurled through the air towards the wall. He cast a sticking charm upon it to keep it up against the wall. Then, after casting a few more specific transfiguration spells on it, it functioned as a blackboard. "Scribe," he casted then, and began to dictate what appeared on the board.
"Hello everyone! Congratulations so far on such a great school year! Please take a seat as soon as you've arrived."
