If there was one thing that Tobias Selther, dead or not, was good at doing aside from curses, it was breaking down a peppy, happy, care-free individual to a gothic emo freak, and rebuilding them in his image. Its what he did to Shadow Converts, people he loathed, but this would be the first to want it.
Who would have thought, that of all people, Fuu would acutally ask Tobias to make her tough. Not just by force, but make so that it would be who she was. To be cold and unfeeling to everyone except Slytherin, and allies. To be merciless on a battlefield, and to be one of the best damned beaters the team would ever have.
Needless to say, he had alot of work infront of him.
He stood in the center of the Hall, wearing his typical black cloak, gloves, and boots. Naturally, it was enchanted so that it would constantly regulate a temperature of 58 degrees Farenheight. Black cloaks normally would overheat the wearers, but it would be like a uniform now. No restrictions to what he would do. She wanted to be tough, he would make her tough.
It was kind of scary if she really thought about it. She was training with Tobias. There was a slight possibility that she could be killed by him. he was the dangerous kind but if she wanted this she had to go all the way. Fuu wanted to stop the the Hospital Wing to pick up a few things, just in case. She dung through the cupboards and stuff a few basic and non-basic things in her bag. "Right." she said a little nervous. "And the nervous has to go, you can;t appear weak in front of some like him. And try your hardest not to show how much of a naive fool you really are." She was talking to herself of course but on of the patients looked up at hr from his bed. And he said, "Um, alright miss I'll give it ma best." Fuu turned to see the boy then she smiled at him and just left.
She made it a slow jog to the dueling hall. Fuu hadn't really had time to change since she came right from practice. She was still it her scummy tennis shoes, shorts and a t-shirt. Fuu stopped at the door and realized she was quite fatigued. Then she was struck with an idea. She dug around in her bag, searching for something. Then she pulled out, what seemed like a juice pouch. She punched a whole in and drank it up. It wasn't roids or anything, just like a magical energy drink. She crumpled it up and stuffed it in her bag.
Fuu pushed the doors open and walked inside. There she saw Tobias in his normal gloomy attire. She didn't mind really, no other color but black seemed to fit him. She put her bag on the ground and while she was there she made sure her shoes were tied and all the jazz. Then she skipped up to Tobias with a smiled. her hand were behind her and she was rocking to and for on the ball of her feet. "I am ready Tobias." she said simply.
Tobias turned to look Fuu in the eyes. His hazel eyes were slightly empty, and dark, but he would make her tough. She could still be the happy-go-lucky lunatic that the world called Fuu, but when needed, she would be cold, hard, and unforgiving....if it worked. He blinked once, before clearing his throat.
"Alright Fuu, just because we're 'friends' does not mean that I will go easy on you. That is your one and only warning, so be prepared. You came to be with one request, 'To become tough.' Right now, you're....well...you need some work. To start, you can still be yourself, but when you mount a broom, or bring out your wand to face an enemy...or get ready to take a test. You must block out all distractions, and un-needed thoughts. Also, block emotions...like fear."
As he said that, he suddenly whipped out his wand, and created a loud, *crack!* right infront of the redhead's face.
Tobias faced Fuu. His eyes had such depth. And they sort of creeped her out. He looked like he was running on empty. She felt kind sad for him. Perhaps, after he help her, she could help him in return. She was ready to become more tough or at least she hoped she was. Tobias cleared his throat and spoke.
He said he wasn't going to go easy on her and that this was her only warning. Right now, you're....well...you need some work." Fuu stifled a chuckle. It was just so funny how he said that. She couldn't help herself. He was going to make her a lean, mean, Quidtich Beating machine. And then he had said something about tests. What a silly person.
You must block out all distractions, and un-needed thoughts. Also, block emotions...like fear." As he said the last part he whipped out his wand and Fuu heard nothing but a loud 'crack'. She jumped, then tripped her her own foot she yelled. Fuu landed on her rump and caught herself with her palms. She quickly stood up and shook out her wrists. "What the hell!?!?!" She exclaimed. He was a sneaky fellow.
Tobias laughed a bit at Fuu's reaction. He offered to help her up, but was refused. Then she yelled, What the Hell!? Granted reaction. He had expected no less. Now for the explanation. "You see, beneath the cheerful, optimistic, insane exterior, you need to be ready for just about anything. If you arent aware of everything, imagine a Bludger coming out of nowhere, and slamming into you. That is one of the core rules."
He tucked his wand away, before turning and taking a few steps away from Fuu. He glanced at the extra blackwear that he had brought, before sending it away magically. Not turning around, he asked quietly, "What are you afraid of Fuu?"
As he was exaplaining his actions Fuu pushed herself onto her knees. What he did made sense after he explained it of course. See did have to be mindful where that dangeruos ball was at all times. It might just slam into her she could fall off her broom and die. She had to remember those core rules after all.
Tobias turnad around to do something. Fuu didn't pay attetion. She brought up on leg and pushed herself up from it. She tugged on her shorts and tucked her hair behind her ears. As she did this Tobias asked, "What are you afraid of Fuu?". Fuu gave him a playful glare and shook her head. "You're so ceepy sometimes." She walked beside him and really thought about the question. "I am afraid I am going to hurt some one someday. You know with that whole nurse thing and all. I don't like boats...dreadful things....and,"she pasued again. There where things that scared Fuu but not much she was afraid of. "I hate taking the first bite of an apple, and I like when people touch my neck.....I know those are all kind of odd but I am not afraid of spiders or heights like most people." Finally she posed the question, "Why?"
Tobias listened to all that she had to say, thinking of creative...methods. When she asked why, he turned slightly so that she could see his face, and the small smile on it. "Because if you want to be tough, you are going to have to beat the living hell out of your fears." There was a bit of a twisted smile on his face, as he drew out both of his wands. With one, he conjured a boat beneath Fuu which he promptly leapt on, and the other, made the doors and windows watertight. "Lets start with boats..." Twirling his wands once, he shot jets of water from both of his wands, filling the entire room, making it a miniature ocean.
"Now lets add the waves...and perhaps a storm as well! And we'll keep going on like this until you've mastered your fear." He really was an insane little arse.
Tobias answered her questions. It what she figured and didn't want to heard. His expression was so creepy and made her skin crawl. Then a boat appeared beneath her. Shje loked at him,"Wha--" And then she knew what he was doing. All the doors and windows closed tighly. Soon the room was filled with cold ocean water. Fuu's heart was racing already. She hated this.
Then the weather got worse and worse. The waves grew more violent and there was thunder and lightening. Fuu fell over again and she was on the floor of the boat. A huge wave came almost knocking them over. Just as a reaction Fuu grabbed onto Tobias' leg. She was getting drenched and she was so scared and mad. She replied to his question, "Mastered my fear? How is this going to do anything!? I--" she cut herself off and gripped his leg even tighter. She closed her eyes and held her breath as a large wave crashed over the boat. She coughed and opened her eyes again. She looked up at Tobias, "I don't see how this is going to help. I keep getting more scared! Stop!"
Tobias stood straight and tall, unmoving in the tempest he had created. He did not budge as Fuu clamped on to his leg. He did glance down when she asked how it could possibly help her, at which point he laughed quietly. "Fuu...the nature of this storm is magical. You know that. But it is kept in motion by your fear of it. Should you stop being afraid of it, it will stop, and we can move on. But the more fightened you are, the worse it will be! This is a storm of fear dear Fuu, and it is just now getting started!"
The best comparison would be for Tobias to be Captain Ahab, standing fearlessly on the boat, facint the storm dead on. The lightning was striking around the boat, and more waves kept striking, and rocking the boat, coming mere inches from flipping. He pulled his hood over his head, adding to the mood. For drama's sake, he added a false moon and clouds to make it more realisitc.
Fuu listened to his words. But it was still so scary. She looked up to see the moon and clouds he had made. What an odd bird. She took a deep breath and tried to do what Tobias had told her. She cleared her mind of useless thoughts. There where alot of those. And she tried as hard as she could to block her emotions. Just like he had said.
She tired then another wave came and she got scared again. But then she tried once more. THe waters became calm and they dried up. The boat disappeared and the doors and windows opened. And all that was left was Fuu holding on to Tobias' leg on the Dueling hall floor. She felt rather foolish and let go of him then stood up. She opened her mouth like she was going to say something but she didn't know what to say. Fuu just let out a sigh and said, "Alright." Which meant ,What's next?.
The clouds dissapated, and the moon vanished, as the waters slowly disappeared completely. She had done it...Fuu had blocked her emotions, and destroyed one of the fears in her mind. Tobias actually smiled as he sent the boat away, leaving the two of them in the middle of the empty dueling hall. The young man took the hood off of his head, and turned to his classmate/coworker/team-mate.
"Good. Very good. Now...remember what it felt like, when you blocked out everything except your focus. Clear it once more." He spoke calmly, as he pulled a small rock out of his pocket, and enchanted it to levitate a few feet infront of Fuu's face, at eye level. He stepped back, and continued talking. "Focus on the rock. The rock is like the Bludger...you can't let it out of your sight. I am going to do many things to take your attention off of the rock, but you must keep all your focus on it for five minutes. When you are ready, tell me. Be warned, you will not be harmed physically, but I may just scare the hell out of you."
Oh, five mintues! That was along time to keep in that feeling. She really didn't like the feeling. Either that or she just wasn't use to it. But if it would help... Fuu's dark blue eyes stared at the rock. She searched for that feeling. Once she found it she clenched her fists. "Okay Tobias." she said calmly.
Then she thought back to her warning. She knew that Tobias had a twisted personality. Hopfully, he didn't go too far. And she hoped this wasn't all for nothing. Fuu kept her focus on the rock and braced herself.
When Fuu said, "Ready Tobias." The room was engulfed in total darkness, except for what appeared to be a digital clock counting down from five minutes. Just the blazing red letters from the darkness. Peircing the darkness, was a small glow which hung above Fuu and the rock, allowing her to stare directly at it. If she could keep her focus on the rock for all five minutes, then she would be more than capable to be a beater...but not a duelist, yet.
Tobias slipped away into the shadows, leaving Fuu in total silence for about thirty seconds. There was no sign of any exits. Just her, and the rock, and the small light. The rest, just darkness. After those thirty seconds, it was time to throw in what usually broke the focus. He used his wands to conjure noises. The first, a small child wimpering. Moments later, the sound of a man screaming for his life, and satanic laughter. All echoing through the darkness. At the same time, the Shadow made a mask, that resembled himself, except the face was ripped open. Disgusting, but it was the same fake sort of mask that were used in Muggle films.
Keeping up the sounds of fear, torture, and pain, he silently crept up on the girl...before screaming and leaping into her range of vision. If she could not flinch at that, then she did not need to wait five minutes.
Everything went dark. Execpt from the coner of her eye she could see a red glowing light. That was all. She wasn't afraid of the dark, and all she could here was her own breathing. So, she stood watching the rock. Then she heard the sound of a child. She told herself in her mind, "It's not real. Just a distraction. Keep focused.".
The horrible sound of people in pain leaked into her ears. Fuu wanted to cover her ears but she couldn't. She was getting scared she could feel it. And she didn't know where Tobias was. Fuu took her clenched fists and tightly gripped them together at her front. The sounds kept getting worse. And she had a feeling someone was behind her. But still she tried to stay focused. Then a distorted, frightening face jumped out, and screamed. She flenched. Which was bad but she didn't sream or fall down. She was imporveing at least.
A small flinch. That was all, but that was to be expected from most brave adults. The next instant, the rock fell to the ground, the light returned, the mask vanished, and a smiling Tobias stood infront of Fuu. "Congratulations. You passed. If you could go through all that only flinching SLIGHTLY once, then you can show no fear towards the Bludgers. I probably might have flinched if I were you...but we've made real progress today. Good show....now soon we'll see if you can do it again while on a broom. But this lesson is over...you may want to get something to drink to calm your nerves."
Major progress indeed. He was not going to break her down...no...she wouldn't last in the world of the Society. But still, he had done what she had asked him to. He would offer to take her to a bar or the Coffee Shop if she needed it, but otherwise, he was done.
