Morgan had prepared herself, and the Dueling Field carefully. Luckily, there was room enough for a dragon. She had thought out her instruictions carefully. She'd even thought about how to make the dragon more corporeal when they needed him to be. After all, she could hardly work with a beast she couldn't see. Dora paced impatiently, and Mondleid flew in lazy circles overhead. Not that her familiars were nearly as large as a dragon. Still, she could at least have some demonstration of the principles she was trying to explain.
She'd dressed for the night too, jeans, t-shirt (Welsh Dragons, naturally), Falconer's glove, sturdy boots. In a trunk near her feet she had several items which would come in handy tonight. All she needed now was Malachy. She looked again at her watch. She had left dinner ten minutes early in order to set up. Still, he'd better not be late.
"Well I'm sorry I'm not the one that sletpt on the front lawn with vampires." Okay that had been a buit low but Bloodwing had been whining constantly. Mostly when he was other animals ones he hadn't seen when he lived in his dragon reservation.
"Well, i was only alive outside that blasted place for a day and..." "I saidI'd help you with getting some pay back. Now stop whining." Bloodwing finally decided to stop talking and hung his head low looking extremely glum. no Malachy felt bad. A dragon, master of the earth and sky. God among reptiles, had been brought down by someting that was already dead. Talk about a blow to his pride. "Oh come on you might beable to do some damage today. we are learning more how to do stuff like that. I think"
"Pfft yeah your girlfriend looked like she was ready to teach us how to make bigger fires. She's your authority. Ive seen handlers like her she'll be teaching you to suppress me." Malachy knew Bloodwing was making things sound worse than they where.
Malachy entered the dueling field. "He there Morgan, Dora," He looked up to the Sky "and Monlied. bloodwings been rather gloomy today. Hope you got something that'll cheer him up."

Morgan smiled as she saw Malachy approach. Bloodwing was presumably in tow. "Good evening gentlemen. Alright, so down to business." Morgan knew exactly what to say. After all, she had been given the same instruction before her fourteenth birthday. She'd modified it, of course. Malchy's was a...special circumstance. And, of course he already had his familiar, so Morgan wouldn't have to teach him the incantation, or the pacts to make once he'd attracted a viable candidate.
"First of all, To make Bloodwing a little easier to work with. The incantation I came across is Capio Constantia. This spell will allow you to render you familiar more or less corporeal, and thus visible, as you choose. I came across it in a tome about a branch of necromancy that uses spirits to divine the future. The spell is a permanent effect, when used properly, and it will be tied to the will of the caster. So you, Malachy, will decide how solid and visible to make him. Also, you can manipulate the two independantly. Making him solid and invisible, or visible and insubstantial. Once again, as you will."
((ooc:Time skip for Malachy to cast the spell...or to say he doesn't want to. Or come up with something better.))
"Now, the point of having a familiar is...well, they say it's to learn to work as a team. And, at first, that's what it is. However, as you begin to work together and learn more about each other, you almost become extensions of each other. Practiced pairs can often use each other's senses, or even intellects. That is how my familiars are able to think at a human level, and how I was able to smell you as you approached. At first, these extra senses can be an overload to the human mind, but soon using them will become second nature.
"It is important to note that having a familiar is not the same as having a slave or trained animal. The familiar isn't just there to serve you, and you are not just meant to control the familiar. It is a symbiotic relationship that should be mutually beneficial for both parties. That's what you promise when you make a pact with your familiar. You swear that the interests of your familiar will transcend your own. And, you trust that they are looking out for you as well. Tell me, have you made a pact yet?"
"Wait? So this spell will make him solid. Meaning he can directly manipulate objects as if he where physically there?" Malachy Didn't know how much he liked the sound of that. Malachy had only seen breif glimpses of Bloodwing's mind and there where many things involving his friends that made him not trust the dragon. But you said that its all my own decision as to what he is so... Capio Constantia" He said pointing his wand at Bloodwing. Bloodwing was now Visible, albeit transparent but Now Morgan could see the Dragon's ghost.
"I don't trust him enough to jive him solidity." "What, why not?" "Because of the though you just had." Bloodwing had been imagining crushing Morgan between he jaws and feeling her blood run down his throat. "Oh I was only kidding."
Malachy rolled his eyes and listened to Morgans Lesson. and really began to like the thought of having a dragon's senses. But then she mentioned some sort of pacts as if he should know what she was talking about. Malachy was really confused. But then Bloodwing piped up. "Malachy Isn't the one that linked me to his soul." "Wait what?" "Your friend on your finger did.-" "-I must interject" "And the snake has something to say." Tha'ts when Sning pipped up. And Bloodwing translated "With out me This binding could not have been done-" "-Wait you understand Parstletongue?" "Yes, all reptiles do, and I can speak it, now don't interrupt. "Anyway as I was saying. I was the one that linked their souls. Malachy as a human wouldnt've been able to ling a raw soul to his own. at least not this early in life. So there are things he does not know but Bloodwing did have to agree to my suggestion for it to work. And Malachy the only reason he agreed to link with you was because his thirst for freedom was stronger than his thirst for blood."
That almost didn't make sense because how was Bloodwing free if he was tied to Malachy but Morgan had said it wasn't slavery. And that there was a pact to be made. "So, what about this pact?"

Morgan listened with amusement as Malachy, Sning and Bloodwing bantered back and forth. They were attentive to her words though, which was a good sign. Malachy, at least was taking this seriously. This was an interesting development, to say the least. Of course, a creature that already had at least equal, maybe superior, intellect would be difficult to bond with. As the mind grew more complex, so did the soul. Not to mention the fact that Bloodwing no longer had a physical body. That would be an interesting bond for sure.
"The Pact is the agreement, and the bond, between a wizard and his familiar. Usually, one sets out to attract a familiar after determining what kind of creature one would like to bond with. There are many spells designed to attract a potential familiar, but The Pact is always done more or less the same way. First of all, it is done entirely in psionic conversation, making it both personal, and a chance to learn the other's mind more acutely.
"First, the potential familiar will ask who the wizard is who calls him. The wizard is then to give a satisfactory answer. Generally, the answer should also answer the question of why you've contacted the familiar. Common answers are 'One who needs you', 'One who requires guidance', and 'A friend'. Of course, as relationships between wizard and familiar are as varied as those who form them, the answer can really be anything that answers those two questions at once.
"Afterwards, The familiar will question the wizard about what he offers the partnership, and what he will ask from it. If both of these are satisfactory, then the familiar agrees to The Pact, and tells the wizard their name, if they have one. If they do not have one, then the wizard will name them at that time. And, that's all there is to it. Once The Pact is formed, your souls are linked. There is a way to reverse this, but it is a long process, and painful."
Malacy was about tro Speak but Bloodwing began translating For Sning again. "Malachy, the pact has already been made in all technically. Bloodwing agreed to it and I agreed on your behalf. Bloodwing, show him what transpired when we touched." Bloodwng nodded and slinked over to malachy like a cat towards a mouse and with a quick snapped pushed his head through Malachy so that the spot where Bloodings brain would have been, had he been a physical animal, and Malachy's brain where basically over lapping.
A flood of light color and sound washed over him. He was suddenly at the crypt Looking up at himself as He came up to touch. the snout of the ghost. Malachy's vision moved again, to a strange dark citadel. He was Bloodwing, alive and breathing Happy to be alive and looking for a spot to rest. Moments later he was being beaten by a rag doll and skewered. the Pain and shock of Bloodwing's death was so intense Mal had fallen to his knees without knowing it.
Then Malachy was back at the graveyard time was frozen and what looked like a flish oflight was coming from Where Sning was on Malachy's finger. Dragon, your life was untimely taken but your experience on this plane does not have to end there. You yearn for freedom and you yearn to see the world. I and this boy can grant that wish. But to stay in this world for much longer you must bind your soul to this wizard.
Is that so. what incentive other than the chance for prolonged existence For what idoes a prolonged life bound to this pale boy mean for me. How do i know I can trust him to respect me? Malachy was shown of flash of his room at his parent's house. Dragon posters Dragon books dragon this dragon that. "The respect and admiration for your kind this boy already has Dragon. I am more than certain he will not mistreat your soul.
Back at the crypt the Dragon nodded. and time resumed. "Wizard Some how I was drawn to you, and we are now linked. You will address me as Bloodwing and if you want me cooperative then you are going to help me."
Suddenly Malachy found himself on his hands and knees In the dueling field. In front of Morgan. Only about a minute had passed. "Indeed the pact was already sealed I agree with all the terms. What now?"DERP!

Morgan was a little worried as Malachy's eyes seemed to blank out for a moment, but then he was back, and telling her that The Pact had been formed. She nodded sagaciously. "Alright. Since you both agree, your souls have already begun to grow together. This is a serious bond. Both of you will undergo personality changes as you become more like one another. And, soon, very soon, you will be able to sense when the other is in pain or in danger."
'Mistress, will we get to do demonstrations soon?,' Cazadora wanted to know.
'Yes, my love, soon. Be patient. Cazadora let out a little whine. She really hated to wait, but she could do it if she had to.
"Now, you must learn to trust each other completely. And I do mean completely. Malachy, you must trust that Bloodwing will act in your best interests and not just in his own. And Bloodwing, you must trust that Malachy will remember that you are his equal, and will respect you as you deserve. The first few days of the bond should be spent getting to know each other better, and you should be in constant psionic communication.
"Neither one of you have the luxury of privacy anymore."
Malachy felt really uncomfortable now. Bloodwing was a dragon and if he had the ability he would have already eaten Morgan. "How do you trust something that wants to harm your friends?" Malachy said not really wanting to admit that they already had trust issues. "Oh don't flatter yourself I don't just want to eat your friends I want to eat everyone, its nothing personal." Malachy just Gave Bloodwing a look.
"Yeah well your dead eating is not something you can really do anymore." Bloodwing lowered hjis head reminded of his death something he had been whining about all day."Yes, i can onlyu imagineit so I will it doesn't mean I'll act on it."
Malachy looked at Morgan. "Trust is a work in progress. At least until we understand each others goals."

Morgan nodded. "Well, I suppose this is a new partnership, and well...unusual, to say the least. I've never heard of one like it before. Well, supposedly, one of my ancestors bonded with a dragon, but it was a live dragon, and he used the traditional format for procuring a familiar. Creatures, like dragons, that are complex and sophisticated, are supposed to be gotten as young as possible. It's actually best if you get the mother to give you a baby, or even an egg,"
Morgan frowned, she was stalling. "But, I digress. There are some real advantages to having a familiar." She reached into her trunk and pulled out a sack and a blindfold. She put the blind fold on herself, and held the sack open. "Inside here is a number of colored stones. Mondleid is going to pull stones one at a time from the bag, and I will tell you what color it is."
Mondleid came to rest on Morgan's outstretched arm. He pulled out a stone, and held it in his beak. With Dora looking right at the stone, it was no work at all. "Red. Black. Purple. Gray. Green. Yellow." She removed the blindfold.
"Now, Bloodwing, I understand that you are a little too big to pull stones from the bag. So, I will pull the stones, and you will communicate to Malachy what color they are." It was an exercise designed to ease Malachy into using his familiar's heightened senses.
"The blindfold is doubly important, Malachy. First, because it will force you to rely on Bloodwing's eyes. Secondly, sometimes using your familiars senses can be a little confusing. It helps if you don't have to worry about which is the picture you see, and which is the picture he sees." She walked over and secured the blindfold. Then she began pulling stones from the bag. She was standing behind Malachy, but within eyeline of Bloodwing.
((Morgan will confirm a right color, and tell you when you get one wrong. You are free to god-mod her in that one aspect in your next post. You are also free to god-mod her to say 'that's enough', or something similar when Malachy is finished guessing.))

So many dead....so many innocents burned to a crisp in that horrible attack upon the sacred temple of knowledge. Such terrorism could not and would not go unpunished. Fortunately, this tragic slaughter had occurred in the middle of the day and not at some ungodly hour, when the terrorist might have escaped unnoticed. As such, the librarian had a decent enough idea of who/what he was looking for. And so the hunt had come to an end.
He had sent his patronus, which took the form of a giant barn owl, patrolling the grounds. when it spotted a GIANT FUCKING DRAGON poof out of nowhere, it swiftly alerted Shane to the dragon's whereabouts. Upon making it to the grounds, he decided to give his patronus a final mission before it could vanish into nothingness once more.
Speaking to it, he sent it away to find Talon Windwaltz with a very important message: "Shane Matthews reporting, headmaster. Giantevildragonspiritmonsterthing loose at the dueling field. Has already murdered dozens of innocents. I'm going in, requesting backup."
Though he had no clue what the heck was happening, he could only assume the two students were performing some crazy ritual to help this evil murderer. As such, upon making it to the dueling field, he already had his wand out. Though he didn't consider himself a mighty or powerful wizard, he did have a specialty in casting silent spells. He was a librarian, after all.
Aiming at the dragon thing, he started letting loose stunning spells as fast as he could, one after another, hoping to slow this monster down long enough for backup to arrive.
For Malachy things went dark. things shifted. It was difficult to figure out at first but that was because things where in so much detail that Things where almost unrecognizable he could see every grain of sand, gravel and dirt. He could see through the wateer in the clouds above Morgan was seen in more than just color there was a radiant glow about her likes if there was another form of vision overlapping his sight. Bloodwing closed his eyes and Morgan was nothing more than an orange shape. but he still knew she was there.. Then The image vanished and Bloodwing opened his eyes. Malachy was confused the glow was gone then it reappeared. Then it hit him. Heat. Bloodwing was seeing heat. Like a snake could. ANd his eyes where as powerful as a hawks. It was amazing.
Then there was the sense of smell. which didn't seem like anything at first because it was such a mix of smells that he couldn't smell anyone thing. but then Bloodwing started helping him by focusing on certain scents and identifying them. And What Malachy hadn't known before was that Smell has a lot to do with attraction even in humans. And Malachy was still attracted to Morgan the thought was brief but Bloodwing had caught it it was something he hadn't explained to him. You almost mated with this one that's why you are protective. Not quite but close enough.
Anyway Bloowing watched Morgan with a new way of thinking Malachy noticed that the dragon no longer saw her as food. but something much different. Malachy saw morgan through bloodwingsgaze pull out a pebble
"Red?" "Nope yellow" Malachy concentrated more the heat vision and light perception where blending too much. "Green?" "Yep." "Black, blue, red." "Yes yes and yes. Well it seems you have uit down you can take off the blind fold now."
Malachy took off the blindfold. "That was different." Bloodwing pulled out of Malachy's mind and he suddenly felt like he needed glasses and that his nose was clogged. "Those senses are amazing." Malachy wondered if He could repay Bloodwing by allowing him to taste something a ghost can't do on it's own. And Bloowing hinted that he was willing to test the theory.
"No what about what happened in the Library... How on earth did that happen Bloodwing tried burning the Slytherin billboard and he couldn't even generate a puff of smoke but when I use incendio only intending enough heat to light a candle well you saw what happened to the books. DO yiour Familiars inhance anyof your spells in that way?"

It was difficult to discern what exactly a Giantevildragonspiritmonsterthing was, but whatever the case was, Talon was on it. The Headmaster rushed down to the Dueling Field as fast as he could, wand drawn, ready to take on whatever this vile beast may be. Shane's patronus had told him it was responsible for the murders of dozens of innocents...so many people had died already, and Talon had heard nothing?
The Headmaster felt a choke rise in his chest which was quickly silenced by adrenaline rushing through his system. His body began to sparkle and crack - innocents, dead, and he hadn't even lifted a finger to protect them! Whatever this thing was, it was going to be brought to absolute justice for its crimes.
Arriving at the Dueling Field, he fell to one knee and observed Shane Matthews firing silent spells which didn't seem to phase the ghostly spirit of a...Dragon...at all. Then his sapphire eyes fell upon it being accompanied by two students - Morgan Pendragon, his friend Tristan's cousin, and a Slytherin Student...Malachy Necrosa, he thought was his name.
"Accio Students!" Talon cried, trying to use his spells to summon the Prefect and student to his side and away from the ethereal monster.DERP!

Things were coming along quite nicely. Malachy and Bloodwing were really learning how to work together. Morgan was about to compliment their progress, when she noticed something odd. There were jets of light, that could only be wandwork, whizzing through Bloodwing's insubstantial form. She was confused for a moment, and got in contact with her own familiars.
'Mon, do a fly-by. Lemme know what's going on. Dora, what do you smell?' Mondleid took off into the air, flying high, wide circles. His eyes scanned the ground.
'Books. I smell...books. And ink. That room you always go to. That's what it smells like' Morgan was baffled by the information. Somebody smelled of the library? Then Mondleid sent her a visual of what he saw. The librarian was attacking? However, there was no time to be puzzled. Morgan simply yelled out, "Run!" She would explain to Malachy later.
Dora bolted from the area, and Mondleid took off for the Owlery. Morgan was about to run, leaving everything but her satchel behind, when she felt a tug, and looked up to see Professor Windwaltz, his wand out and pointed at her and Malachy. Right away, she gave in to the tug, and allowed herself to be whisked to his side.
"What's going on? I thought I told you. Or, at least, I know I sent you a note about this. Malachy obtained a new familiar, but was unable to control it in the library, and damaged a whole bookshelf, and the dozens of books in it. As punishment, I docked fifty points for destruction of school property, and ordered that he learn how to properly work with said familiar." Although, Morgan realized, she'd never specified what kind of familiar Malachy had.
As Malachy took off the lindfold he noticed the red bots shooting through Bloodwing too. Malachy started looking around for the source then Morgan told him to run and not feeling like it was smart to ignore Morgan's advice he started to run when Talon arrived. He heard the spell and let himself with Morgan be whisked to the Headmaster's side.
He let Morgan do most the explaining, realizing that Talon was worried about them. And then when Morgan was finished he added. "His name is Bloodwing and his soul is linked to mine. Well at least i think that's how it works. But..." His Words where cut of by a loud growl. Bloodwing was glaring at the Talon. "He's harmless? Bloodwing stop that." Bloodwing stopped growling but he didn't stop glaring Bloodwing was watching Talon's every move ready to strike if he dared do something to its master. And he was completely ignoring the man that was shooting the useless spells at him.

Talon had indeed received note of the docked points and the damaged library at the cost of a rogue familiar of Malachy's. The Headmaster felt rather silly not having put two and two together to realize that Shane was going on another overprotective spree with his books. Dozens of innocents murdered. Of course.
The Headmaster glanced up into the ghostly eyes of the Dragon, and felt a sense of sympathy for the creature. He had once hated Dragons. After all, one had been responsible for the deaths of both his parents. Indeed, if the creature were alive, Talon would most definitely have opposed it. But this Dragon - Bloodwing, Malachy had called it - was not a living creature. It, for some reason, was bound to this earth and unable to rest in peace.
"This isn't a familiar, Miss Pendragon," Talon said calmly, "it's a ghost. Ghosts don't quite work the same way living animals do. This creature doesn't belong here, on earth, he shouldn't have to be...you shouldn't be looking to how to control it...you should be looking for a way to release it from its suffering."
