The Slytherin cocked an eyebrow, could not help the smug look that arose to her normally impassive features. That Whites boy was an idiot.
"Very good," she allowed to Leon, for the first time looking him over like he had any worth. Those two quick-fire spell had been well-thought out, one right on the heels of the other in case the first failed. She appreciated that; she would be sure to watch this one more carefully from now on.
Now, for the other one. She sighed. So quickly defeated, it was a shame; she had been hoping for more of a fight. Why did he not see that? Did he allow himself to be beaten out of sheer laziness? She would not put that sort of behavior past him.
"Whites," came her terse voice, "if you are going to duel you cannot just, how do you say, half-ass it."
In case her displeasure did not come across simple enough for his minute mind to understand, she narrowed her smoke-colored eyes at him to further express her exact feelings on the subject.
Had she been in that situation, she wouldn't have just stood there like a goon, she would have acted, maybe thrown out a Protego of her own so both spells would rebound, and then followed it up with something else. Preferably something actually harmful. Was that not how real wizards fought?
"What now?"
She was starting to get bored, again. Whites would no doubt come up with something nonsensical for them to do, but maybe Leon would have an idea that she would like.

Asher had crawled (walked?) onto the field, reluctantly, shoved from her room by a funny smell. The source hadn't been located, and until then, she had been advised to high tail it elsewhere. Why she had decided going outside was the clever idea, she hadn't the slightest.
So, at some point she had taken a seat out on the dueling field. What were they doing out there, yelling at each other? Asher barely recognized the Slytherin girl, having only seen her in passing in the common room.
The two boys, Whites and (?) were being .... generally odd. Behaving oddly, anyhow. Asher stared, nonplussed, and waited. And then .... a wand, flying, like an arrow. Well. Not quite that on direction. It was just kind of flying. Asher immediately threw her robe over her head and ducked.
There was a thump, and sparks. The wand bounced off her head and hit the ground, shooting more sparks. Asher waited for the burning inferno that would swallow her up, but the sparks just sizzled out in the grass to nothing. Wincing, Asher glanced up before leaning over to get the wand.
It didn't go off in her hand, although she was sure she'd heard an ominous ticking sound.
With a sigh, she walked to the few feet over to the boys and held out the wand.
"Here."
Then, almost as if she planned to be invisible, she sat down there in the grass. It wouldn't matter where was was sitting when they started fighting, she was likely to get hit anyway.971

Leon didn't think the duel would be over so quickly, but he smiled all the same at his victory. It wasn't really so much about winning, as it was a chance for the young Gryffindor to actually prove to himself he could use the spells he knew to defend himself. He glanced over at Micha, who approved of his skill and then proceeded to berate Leon's friend for his loss. Leon scowled at this quietly. It was just practice, it was nothing to get all worked up about.
Even Whites was being a good sport about it.
But then again, Leon wondered, this might be some kind of 'women' thing that girls did where they were being severe but were really just flirting. The young wizard left Whites to himself on that front. If his friend wanted to pursue this girl, he'd have to figure this one out alone.
Just then, another girl appeared out of the blue and handed Whites his wand back. Leon could've sworn she wasn't there two seconds ago, and just as quickly she seemed to retreat back into herself upon the grass. Leon figured she just wanted to watch, and not get involved. He shrugged. If Whites or Micha knew her, they could say something, but he wasn't going to drag her into the conversation.
"You want to go again, man?" Leon asked, hesitant to add anything more.
Wake up Leave your hesitations Wake up Time for us to realize Wake up Show appreciation Wake up Time for us to realize
Sure, as much as he had mildly wanted to impress Micha, he wasn't one to be a sore loser. He'd lost, fair and square, and quite frankly, he deserved Micha's comments. If he'd been more alert, quicker on his feet, he would've been able to do something other than lose. Those few moments where he'd just stared as his wand almost left his hand had been what had left him open to the second spell, and in duels you just couldn't make sense like that.
Whites grinned, looking over at Micha. "Duly noted. I'll try harder next time?" What else could he say? And out of nowhere, Asher was there, handing him his wand.
"Oh, uh... Thanks." He looked down at the peculiar girl, the one he'd met down in the dungeons the other day. Was he supposed to introduce her? "Uh, guys, this is Asher. She's a friend of mine. Asher, this is Leon and," he gestured over to her seat, "Micha."
Introductions done with, he turned to Leon again. "Nah, I'm good for today, I think." He let out a small laugh and continued, for the girls to hear as well. "Do you guys want to go do something? In town, or whatever?" He wasn't sure what 'something' was. Was it getting a drink with friends? He was pretty happy with how this day had gone so far, he wouldn't mind getting a coffee or something in town.

Leon did not seem to appreciate her comments toward Whites, and something like amusement flickered over Micha's cold face. Of course, he and Whites were brother Gryffindors together, and friends on top of that. It was only natural he would feel some instinctual need to protect his friend. Perhaps, then, from here on out she would act a bit softer, so as not to ruffle his feathers. She did not want to make enemies, after all.
And so, when Whites looked at her with another of his infuriatingly common grins and spoke, Micha responded with a small smile of her own. It was the most she could make herself do, besides a brief, "Good, I will look forward to it," that escaped her lips, the words icy as ever but meant genuinely. What use was a teacher that was weak in actual battle? Not that he was a proper teacher, anyway, but she had learned a bit from him. Expulso. So very useful. Next time the school was invaded by walking corpses, she would not be reduced again to a damsel in distress, not if she could help it.
A girl appeared, one whom Whites seemed somewhat familiar with. Disapproval entered her stark gaze. That one would have girls literally falling at his feet, wouldn't he? She would have to add womanizer to his ever-increasing list of impurities. To the girl, Micha allowed a nod of greeting, but as Whites had again taken it upon himself to introduce her like a common item, she felt no need to extend a greeting of any sort. If just Micha was good enough for the boys, it would be enough for the girl.
Leon suggested another duel, which she approved of, but Whites countered with an offer for all of them to go to town and 'do something', no doubt something that would involve him showing off to the newly-arrived girl in one of his inferior flirting techniques. She felt a brief moment of pity for the girl. Even she, Micha the cold, knew how to charm both boys and girls; it'd been among her learnings while at Beauxbatons, and though the courses had been complicated, the idea itself was not difficult. Whites, however, would have had trouble, if he believed smiling and losing at easy duels was enough to woo a girl.
Her soot-colored eyes blinked once, then returned to the girl sitting so despondently on the ground. She seemed somewhat familiar. From class, perhaps? No, Micha corrected herself, she knew where she'd seen the girl before.
"Asher," came her soft voice. "You are in Slytherin too, are you not?" The question was more or less there only to serve as a formal recognition, as Micha knew for a fact the girl was in her House. There was scarce a pause before she had turned her attention to the boys, gaze flicking between them before finally settling on Leon. "I would enjoy visiting the town," she commented, twirling her wand almost idly in one hand. It was a show, of course. Micha Volkov was never idle in any way. "I have not been to Drakborough, yet, so it would be appreciated if there was someone to show me around." A hint, but there was always a chance the cloutish Whites would miss it, which was her reason entirely for speaking mainly to Leon.
"Of course," and here was her more blood-thirsty side, shown in the slight curl of her lips at her next words, "Another duel is fine, too."

Asher made little indication she had heard Whites speak to her, merely glancing at the other two in turn, allowing the slight nod of her head in Micha's direction. Leon drew a longer gaze from her, but that was about it. Likely, she was judging him to see for any problems he might cause her.
He probably had a stash of Horklumps under his socks. Nasty things, Horklumps. Whites, at least, seemed happy to see her, and even the other girl spoke up to the pessimistic girl.
"Yes. Slytherin." She drew out the 's' a little bit, hugging her arms to her chest. Whites suggested going to town. Hmm. Had she been to town since she got there? For a brief moment there was only panic. Leave the grounds? What if they got in trouble? Were they allowed to leave? What if they got beat up by some school official for trying to leave?
Then Micha agreed, and Asher relaxed, if only slightly. After all, surely not all of them would agree to this suicidal mission if it was indeed against the rules. Asher let out a long sigh, muttering as she inhaled.
"Just get mugged anyway." She spoke quickly, words running together.
Dueling? Oh no. Asher couldn't duel. Her wand would blow up, leaving a big crater filled with FFU student goo, what a mess, and she didn't want to get in trouble for making such a mess.

Leon was a little disappointed that they weren't going to duel again. He was about to suggest, if Whites had accepted, they have a true duel, to incapacitation. The, though incredibly short, duel had gotten the Gryffindor's adrenaline pumping, and he didn't like the idea of just stopping. He relented, however, as he figured that maybe Whites really didn't want to duel at all. Perhaps the whole affair really had just been to show off in front of Micha. Leon wouldn't have blamed him for it.
Though he really did want to keep going.
His attention turned to the new girl when it was revealed that she wasn't entirely a total stranger. She was apparently Whites' friend, so Leon gave her a smile and a wave. "Hey Asher," said the Gryffindor. She didn't exactly seem the loud type, and Leon's smile didn't vanish as he wondered if quiet Slytherins were his friend's type.
The idea of going to the town, however, was rather sudden for Leon. Going to the library was one thing, going back to their room was easiest, but going to the town was out of the question. Leon was still covered in sweat from his run around campus, and was dressed in loose muggle clothes to boot. If they were going to make a date out of this, they'd have to plan a little further. From what Micha said, and from Asher's hesitation, it seemed like the only one who knew where he was going was Whites.
Leon grinned. 'Of course,' he realized, 'he wants me out of the picture so he can swoop in on these girls. If he can't get one quiet Slytherin, he'll at least get the other.' "That sounds cool, man, but I want to finish my run and head back up to the castle to change since we're done dueling," the young wizard said, motioning behind him with his thumb, "you guys should go, though. I bet the town's awesome."

He was genuinely surprised when Micha gave him a smile. That was a change. Maybe it really was his calling to cheer up antisocial Slytherins. Look what he'd done for Asher, after all! She totally came to hang out with him. She seemed like the type to be hiding under her bed at all times, or something equally quiet and alone. This 'going to town and doing something' idea was getting better and better already.
He was glad when Micha expressed interest in visiting the town. He'd had a feeling that neither Leon or Asher would've been hard to convince to go, but with Micha he'd been expecting more of a struggle. So it was all good then! And just like Micha said, it would be great if someone would show the people who'd never been there around. He thought for a second... He was the student who'd been here the longest, right? Maybe he should... but nah, knowing Leon, he'd already jogged through the entire town well enough to take them all on a tour. It'd be great.
Asher mumbled something about muggles, and it made him think... Were Slytherins really as purist as they were stereotyped? Following that comment, he was starting to believe so.
And then Leon dropped the bomb.
"Oh, man..." Whites said, genuinely a little disappoint. "Well, if you say so, dude." He could understand not wanting to go all sweaty and the like. He cracked another of his grins. "Good duel, though, I think. Went so quick I missed it." He turned to the ladies again, and gestured vaguely. "Do you guys want to go still?"

She was more than somewhat disappointed that Leon would not be joining them, but at the same time she respected his desire to finish his exercising. He truly was a disciplined one, that Leon was, and she admired that in her own little way. Of course, she would never let him know that, otherwise he would most likely act like every other uncivilized male she knew and swell up like a balloon from the praise.
On the other hand, that left her alone with Whites and his most likely mistress. Yes, she was a sister Slytherin, but the way she lay like a slug upon the grass did not inspire greatness of any kind. Their trip to the town, if they did go, would most likely end up being a chore that she would want to escape from as soon as they had set off. A little sigh left Micha, and she flicked her eyes irritably Whites' way, before returning to Leon.
"Perhaps we shall see you again soon," she said, cordial as ever.
Whites asked if they still wanted to go, and the girl was quiet a moment, thinking it over. She did not really want to go and be submitted to following Whites around on a 'tour'; yet at the same time she did not want to leave Asher alone to his wanton ways.
"I think we should still go, yes." She would not lie and say she still wanted to. This was her doing a civic duty to her housemate, that was all. "I would like to see some of the sights, and, maybe," she took a quick breath, darted her eyes Whites' way and then off to the dueling field, as though what she were saying was of no real importance at all, "Maybe we could stop by the ice cream parlor? That is, if the town even has one of those."
She hadn't had ice cream, her one true vice, since America, after all, and if she was going to have to put up with Whites for any more of the afternoon, she might as well be rewarded for that time.

"Hullo," Asher said glumly, looking up with a bored, blank gaze. What had he said his name was? And then just as suddenly ....
The other Gryffindor Boy, Leon, rushed off to drown himself. Well, Asher supposed it was better than dying of exhaustion. That would just be miserable, and oh so boring. She hadn't expected him to stick around very long, after all, it was terribly crowded out here. Too many people meant too many diseases, and those things spread so quickly. It was all rather depressing, to be sure.
Whites seemed rather eager to go on to town, and even Micha looked happy to oblige.
An ice cream parlor? That stuff that froze your teeth and made it so they had to scrape them with sticks because they were bad for you? Oh.
"Well. All right then." Asher got up with all the eagerness of a turtle, pushing her red bangs out of her face and glancing around. Ice cream, when was the last time she'd had the stuff? It'd been something with almonds and caramel in it, and it turned out Asher's mum was allergic to almonds, but it had been all right, because Asher's mum hadn't eaten any of Asher's, she'd gotten something with strawberries.
She hadn't been allergic to those, thank goodness. That would have been terrible, her mum enjoyed straw berries so much.
Hazarding a guess in direction, Asher started walking. After all, if they stood there too long, the ice shop - or even the whole town - might move aside and they'd never be able to find it again.
Whites was glad that both of them still wanted to go. He would've felt pretty stupid, offering for the four of them to go and having two accept... but only on the condition that Leon had gone with them. That would've been a pretty bad blow to the ego, romantic or not! He could totally see why girls would go for Leon, though. The dude was quick on his feet, strong, hell the guy played sports! That was pretty impressive.
He was surprised to hear that Micha actually had a destination in mind. Ice cream parlour? That sounded common enough. He found that smile growing on his face once again. Man, he really was a smiling idiot around these two, but he couldn't help it. He was a smiling idiot in general!
"Sure, ice cream sounds great! I'm sure there's somewhere that'll have it down there."
Without really saying anything, Asher had kind of taken off in that direction. She was an odd one; one moment she thought things were going to blow up in her face, the next, well... She was walking alone towards town, without making sure the other two were following her. What was she, a Gryffindor?
"I guess that means we should get going, then." Whites said, glancing back at Micha, taking care not to offend her somehow. "See you, dude," He called to Leon, and trotted off after Asher.
Post by Micha Volkov on Nov 22, 2010 5:02:06 GMT -5
Of course ice cream sounded great. She had been the one to suggest it, after all. Besides even that, ice cream was always great. Always.
The girl's dark eyes followed Asher as the other Slytherin meandered off, presumably in the direction of the town. She glanced momentarily back to Whites as he spoke, but did not deem his comment worthy of an answer, instead just following him as he horse-loped off. She would not lower herself to such a ungainly pace, of course, but instead kept her usual straight stride, stepping after the two in her usual unassuming manner.
If there was no ice cream, she would have to kill Whites, she decided. She would allow him to live only if he could find her a comparable substitute. Of course, if he did not keep her entertained, his death was certain as well.
