Navara watched as the scene escalated. Why, oh why had he ever put that benighted sign in his window? Marc was a good lad, sure, but Navara wasn't about to have his shop blasted to bits if a fight broke out. He squared his broad shoulders, and pulled his lanky frame up to it's full height of six feet, four inches.
"Look, I don't want any trouble. Anyone who wants to start a fight should be aware that my shop is equipped with a justice field. Any violence or crimes you commit against someone else will only happen to you." Originally, the justice field had been a sort of insurance against thieves. If they stole something, something of theirs would go missing--usually payment for whatever they were trying to steal. The payment and the item they'd attempted to steal would appear on Navara's counter. If Navara was feeling particularly witty, he'd ask the would-be shoplifter if they wanted their purchase wrapped.
As far as violence went, if someone fired a spell at someone else, they'd be hit by it. If someone tried shooting a gun, the bullets would find them. If they tried to demonstrate muggle-style dueling, well, then, their punches would hurt only them. It was a neat little system, one designed to be absolutely fair. And the whole thing was supported by the keystone of the arch over his doorway.
The decorative etching in the stone was actually a stylized rune, and a very intensive charm had been cast on the whole thing. Once one entered beneath the keystone, one was subject to the field until one passed back beneath it. And lest someone get any funny ideas, all the windows of his shop--and his living quarters upstairs--had the same rune etched into the cornerstones. That, along with the fact that no one could apparate into his shop, kept Navara quite safe.
He noticed the girl who came in. She seemed to be look at the empty air for a minute, and nodded at someone who wasn't there before she started interrogating Edmund. Odd. Still, she wasn't hurting anyone, so he let her be for the moment.
