He caught it. He'd caught the damned knife. For a second Gabriel just stared at him, legs threatening to give out, his injured arm down at his side. Well. There was still that bit of laughter in him, amused at how hopeless this situation was.
And it only got better.
Gabriel grinned at the boy, leaning heavily on the fence. Anyone could see - even as dark as it was - that he was in trouble. One likely didn't even need to see. "Not fleeing. I'd just rather not crack my head on the sidewalk again. It's bad for my mind."
The girl stepped towards him with a smile, and he straightened up against the fence, leaning a bit against it, but she touched his cheek. He froze, letting her trace the scars. Gabriel didn't necessarily have to like it, but he would let her for now, what choice did he have? The Ravenclaw just watched her, arms limp at his sides. No where to go, nothing he could do.
It was just his luck that he had somehow gotten in to the middle of a vampire meet-up. It couldn't just be coincidental, they had to have planned this utter bullshit. And he had gotten in the middle of it. The third that showed up looked like he might have a few screws loose. Gabriel had seen enough of that kind to know that.
It had nothing to do with saving his own neck, what Gabriel said next. It was just pure stupidity. "He's not after you yet, but if you start killing more students, he certainly will be." Maybe turning Gabriel wasn't a terrible idea, but with so many newborn vampires running around, it would be chaos. It was doubtful there would be very much organization, not with a group like that. Gabriel already knew he himself wouldn't stick around, vampire or not. Death wouldn't change his irritation with people, fellow dead or not.
At least it didn't sound like he was saving his neck too much, because right now, his options looked like being turned in to a vampire or dying. And frankly, Gabriel found the latter more endearing. Magic made things easier, and he didn't want to lose it. Otherwise he would have let Orca turn him when he had been accidentally bitten the last time.
And then -
"NO!"
Sometime during the last few seconds Gabriel had become painfully aware that as strong as the boy was, it was this girl that he belonged to, in that sense. The boy might keep Gabriel from leaving, hurt him, anything, but he would not kill him. The boy had really meant it.
It was her choice to decide that.
And she didn't want him dead, or changed.
Gabriel's heart thudded uncomfortably hard against his front, that cold, dead touch making him want to tense. He proved too tired to do so. The Ravenclaw let her rest her head on his shoulder, trying to remember how to breath. Being so worn out was heavily effecting his thoughts, and it took him longer than it should have to connect the dots.
Use me? Gabriel blinked. How could he be useful? A half-dead student, and she was more capable of killing than he would ever be. Silver eyes found the blonde head, and then the other two. The mad man, and the boy.
What good could he be? Gabriel wasn't sure how to ask it without sounding stupid - surely the others would understand, but perhaps ... that had something to do with them all together. She was so close, but she was also laying on his good arm. Besides, if she had a deal .... or at least something that would keep him alive.
"I'm ... not sure I'm following you," Gabriel whispered to the ear close to him. 5753
