"On your team? Well, you ARE Slytherin, as was I, technically; once upon a time. So when I play I'd definitely stick with them. Especially if you are playing for them." he said, starting as she made her next shot and diving after it, even though it seemed like he could scarce make it to the proper hoop in time.
[dice=20]
"Wow......" he said, not even coming close to catching the ball in time, "Well, I sure got shown up right there." he said as he retrieved the ball and tossed it to Marina.[rand=537044167173093054734170967549620770663863182539620963723155232278]

Nina chuckled to herself, as not only did she make the goal, she made it easily.
"Why would you want to be on my team, though?" the Head Girl asked, eyeing him warily. She tried not to get any disillusioned thoughts into her head, and added shortly thereafter, "Afraid to face me or something?"
As soon as the quaffle reached her grasp, Marina made a wide arc towards the opposite hoop, the left, and threw it as accurately as she could while moving at her target.
"Among other things, of course. Could be I just want to stay close to those who actually count me among their friends. After all, you volunteered to accompany me to a vast uncertainty that could just as easily have led to your death. Why wouldn't I be willing to do the same? Of course, Quidditch is perhaps a bit less than life threatening, but it's still the same concept, isn't it?"
"Well, did you really think you could catch me off-guard?" he asked, stretching his hand towards the goal and aiming his broom to catch the quaffle once again.
[dice=20]
"Nope, not this time." he said, catching the ball fairly easily and tossing it back.[rand=72406261121127262003784151160522902913645058144745421681575328965]

Marina smiled at his response, knowing that at the very least, she was his friend.
She only pouted slightly this time when her shot didn't make it, knowing that Azrael was a much better quidditch player than she was and that she had already been exceedingly lucky against him.
"Maybe next time though!" she shot back, grabbing the ball as it was tossed to her and then immediately sending it sailing towards the middle hoop.
"Heh, you're welcome to try." Azrael replied, having already been given a boost of confidence by his current spree of successful defenses of his goals as he dove towards the newest shot.
[dice=20]
"Yep, that's what I thought." he said, beaming once again as he tossed the ball back to Marina.
"By the way, I can't help but wonder where you stand currently with Talon's little war, if he even has yet to get all of the students and staff involved. It personally seemed to me more of a private grudge that he has currently gotten himself into."[rand=86305361302707853631607019215768476390982723633667449007678330063]

Marina grumbled under her breath as her shot missed badly and was caught.
"That was an awful shot..." she said, mostly to herself, looking just a little bit disheartened. She admittedly had not expected to be this badly beaten. However, the conversation served as a welcome distraction.
"I don't really have much of a place in it, I think. I really don't have much by the way of friends or even acquaintances, so I assume what ever I have to do with this whole deal will be because I am Head Girl."
Marina's face fell and she spent a few long moments contemplating the red ball she had caught without really thinking. The impending war was something she'd been stopping herself from pondering, and obviously some aspect of it bothered her deeply.
In an attempt to distract herself from bothersome thoughts, Nina decided to focus on practicing, and with a whole new determination, aimed again for the leftmost hoop.
"It was a fine shot, I'm sure you're better than most others on the team already." he said, waiting more on her response to his question than her next shot.
"There is something bothering you about this, isn't there? I wonder, do you actually want to be a part of this?" he asked, seeming baffled by this possibility, "You realize, of course, that if Talon wasn't just over-exaggerating everything, it could be quite dangerous. I don't have any doubt you would be a mighty addition to the school's side, yet still; it would be much better to avoid this situation entirely."
Almost too late he jerked his broom towards the ball as she shot for yet another goal.
[dice=20]
Getting a solid handhold on the ball, he drew his hand back and hurled the ball wide to Marina's left side. "Catch!" He shouted to her.

Marina's brow creased with worry as he continued to speak about the subject she had been avoiding, obviously very worried about herself and the other students she knew from classes, not to mention her professors and Headmaster.
"It's my duty, though. I realize that I could... die," Marina choked on the word, and then continued, "but this is the only decent home I've ever had, and I don't think I'd be able to live with myself if I didn't defend it."
Marina's face looked sullen and dark for a moment, as she was torn between selfish instincts and her desire to do good.
"It's not like I've got an awful lot to lose anyway..." The statement was cryptic, but the thought was cut short by Azrael lobbing the ball way out of easy reach.
Without thinking, she pressed herself to her broom handle and sped off in the direction the ball was travelling, reaching out as far as she dared to attempt to catch it.
[dice=20]
Catching the ball, albeit just barely, Marina quickly swerved in the opposite direction, back towards the hoops. Once she was in throwing range, she chucked it at the rightmost hoop, hoping her aim was true and that Azrael wouldn't get there in time.
"Bah, the school has enough defenders as it is. You needn't worry about their safety. As for myself, I'm lending what aid I can, although avoiding the front lines, as combative dueling just isn't my game."
"Remember, you have everything to lose, as I don't think you give yourself the credit you deserve. Just give it time and I'll bet you're bound for greatness. On another note, that was a beautiful catch!" he exclaimed as she caught the ball he had thrown, "I don't think I would have expected anything else form you though, quite honestly. Although I still have faith in my goal-keeping skills." he said, diving to defend against her oncoming shot.
[dice=20]
"Wow, I actually caught that one." he said, just barely managing to snatch the ball from the air before it sailed into the goal. "That was a good attempt, try it again." he said, tossing the ball to her again.[rand=703181970683324497497364073439141091939612448243676876847723234]

Although it seemed Azrael tried to dissuade her from fighting in the battle (though she could so no reason why), Marina was still quite torn as to what to do. However, that stress seemed to lessen slightly with the comment, which distracted her momentarily.
"Thank you..." she muttered, blushing slightly, not used to hearing people say such nice things about her. Could she be destined for greatness like he said? Or was she doomed to be another nameless Professor or Ministry drone, who, upon her death, would be utterly forgotten?
When she missed her shot, though, her face fell again with obvious disappointment. She didn't stand a chance in a real game if nerves got the best of her enough to prevent her from scoring the vast majority of the time.
"Good save..." she complimented, her voice soft, sandwiching the ball between her two outstretched hands as it was tossed to her. She held it for a moment, however, as she wondered how much use she would be if she didn't chicken out.
"I'm pretty good at combative magic myself... Or at least, I think I am," Nina said thoughtfully, remembering her training sessions in the Chamber of Secrets in her Elemental Magic. She hadn't practiced in a while, but she figured it was something like riding a broomstick: you just don't forget how to do it.
In reality, Marina was excellent at combative magic, a skill that, if her fragile sanity was not kept, could prove in the future to be very dangerous.
Finally regaining her composure enough to attempt another shot, she repositioned her grip on the quaffle and took of toward the left ring, getting as close to it as she could and attempting to throw the quaffle through it.
"Heh, I can't say I've ever been good at combative magic. It's why I've always surrounded myself with minions; because if it came right down too it, I couldn't defend myself in a tight spot. It's the main reason why I'll be sending out my minions to help Talon, yet won't be actually participating other than that." It was a decision he felt no guilt in making, knowing he might only ultimately serve as nothing more than a burden to the school, with his greater inferi and thus a large part of the school's fighting force all tied directly to him.
"Then again, if you insisted upon participating, I could assign you one of my special minions to act as a sort of personal guardian for you; if you wanted, of course."
Little after he finished he was forced to leap into action after yet another shot.
[dice=20]
He as good as had his hand on the ball, yet somehow it managed to slip from his fingers and make it's way into the goal. "Ghah! I should have had that one!" he exclaimed, fetching the ball and tossing it back to Marina.[rand=00200818935991298200565366462475686655234036958681117206667835928646]

Marina found his constant use of the word "minions" interesting, and not bothersome. While most people would've noticed the evil connotation of the word, she only noticed instead that Azrael was kind to her, and thus, was not a threat. As bright as Marina was, Nina was not particularly good at deciding the difference between right and wrong, at least, the line had become very blurred since she was young. Cheating and lying suddenly become far less immoral when they helped her survive.
"I can't quite warrant you giving me my own personal bodyguard, Az. There are more important people that probably need one more than me, and if you gave one to all of them, you probably wouldn't have much of a fighting force left." Marina chewed on her bottom lip, noticing Azrael fumble on his catch, which resulted in her own weak shot making it. Although it wasn't a pretty victory, it was one, and she grinned from ear to ear, forgetting her worries in triumph.
"Hah! Looks like I'm working my way up to an almost-tie." Marina snorted at the idea. Usually almost tying was still a defeat for her, but Azrael was different. She held a lot of respect for him, admiring his ability to inspire obedience in others and to gather followers.
She cradled the ball as she caught it and immediately sped off straight towards the center hoop, feinted left, and threw the ball solidly at the right hoop.
"I can warrant giving you a personal bodyguard easily, as I can't think of anyone more important I might defend. Also, as you are good at combative magic, it's just a bit of extra cover for you while you work your spells."
Then again, with just about everyone else in the school, he couldn't care less if they all got wiped out; thus she was the only one he really cared about surviving the entire 'war'. Except, perhaps, Talon might be more useful kept alive in this scenario, although Azrael wasn't about to tell this to Marina.
Azrael was forced to make a quick turn as he dove for the hoop to his left to intercept yet another shot.
[dice=20]
Catching the ball with relative ease, he tossed it back to Marina; "You'll have to do better than that if you want to score."[rand=959418710877988689864701366668253941039984480824735871213385365963]

Nina really couldn't wrap her head around why he would see her as so important, at least, not with one of her "logical" answers that didn't include that he might actually really like her. That option had already been ruled out as an impossibility so it was only a waste of time to think about. The idea of having a real friend was enough of a fantasy come true that she didn't really even think about other options.
Marina winced, both at her shot and at Azrael's comment. Instead of allowing it to bother her, however, it only made her more determined.
The Head Girl was still only long enough to take breath after catching the quaffle, and immediately sped forward a few meters toward the left hoop. She stopped dead and used a combination of her own strength and inertia to throw the ball as fast and hard as she could toward the goal.
"I wonder, do you know when the next game is? I think we shall make the best pair on the team. With you as chaser and myself as keeper, none can defeat us," he said with an air of absolute confidence. She had made no remark towards their previous subject, and Azrael decided that he really didn't want to press the issue.
"Ugh, you're persistant too, which is quite the admirable trait to have and will get you quite far next game," he said, diving towards the hoop opposite of where he was currently waiting.
[dice=20]
"Wow." he said, not being able to get the the goal hoop in time, "Wonderful shot right there." Retrieving the ball, he tossed it towards Marina once again.[rand=192898506441735782677319985724681595439024256746317366561136723371]
