(( Muse resuscitation in progress, bear with me. ))
Unknown's decision to act came finally, just as the puppeteer was about to transition into the next part of his attack. For the record, he had no set plan, no perfect design that would click together like clockwork. Strategy and tactics were for his master to worry about; Unseen believed in the charm of meaningless spontaneity. Chaos for chaos' sake. Truly natural beauty.
So, he released the Inferi. Throughout the city, several of Azrael's hideous soldiers snapped back into control of their own bodies, while the illusions disintegrated and blew off with the cold wind.
Cold? Cold is boring.
Dozens of thin strands of Unseen's consciousness, the cords which had just controlled his Inferius puppets, suddenly became corporeal. Under tension, they whipped around, snapping through buildings and cleaving people in half. Everything they touched burst into flame, and soon, a great portion of the city was bathed more in the blue of his flames than the red of victims' blood.
An instant before hitting Unknown and his snack, one of these tendrils phased back into nonexistence, leaving the two untouched. The rest, however, left ruin and death in their wake, the likes of which a false army of Inferi would have taken several hours to inflict.
Rows of humans and Inferi lay in the streets alongside their dismembered heads, hands, and torsos. Both dead and living were surrounded by blocks of burning buildings, many of which collapsed as their severed supports gave out. All this was soon followed by ... fireworks?
Indeed; the illusionary rats inflated and rose above the burning rooftops, exploding to shower the city with all kinds of sharp, shiny objects. When the rodents popped, they, too lost their connections to the Shade's mind. More deadly whips of mental energy flayed about, thrashing the city like blender blades.
