Romulus's eyes widened as the kick he delivered to the wolf's head seemed to do absolutely no damage to his opponent. Not only did Orca remain completely unharmed, but there was no recoil in the vampire's leg from the impact. It had to be magic - Azrael was not going to let Orca fight this battle alone. The vampire didn't have much time to plan further, however, as the lycan pressed his advantage and transformed into his lupine form.
He hurled himself onto Romulus, and both vampire and lycan were thrown to the ground, the white wolf's maw snapping at the vampire. Romulus pressed one firm hand under the wolf's jaw so as to keep him at bay before delivering another strong kick to Orca's underbelly in an attempt to push him off.
Say goodbye As we dance with the Devil tonight Don't you dare look at him in the eye As we dance with the Devil tonight
Heh, Romulus was on the defensive. Perfect. The only question now seemed to be: when Orca was finished ripping apart Romulus, should Az have the lycan go for Zappy or should he just finish Orca off? Perhaps it would be more fitting of a punishment for Orca to kill his master with his own claws and then live to remember it.
First things first: the vampire. "Engorgio!" He said, aiming his wand at Orca once more. How would Romulus enjoy fighting the lycan when it had grown to be the size of a bus?
The hand against the underside of his muzzle might look thin and somewhat fragile, but just like the vampire himself, it was stronger than it seemed. A lot stronger. His teeth clicked close on nothing but thin air, and then a boot shoved itself into his belly, knocking him backwards and driving the breath from his lungs.
He sprawled to the side, but was back on his feet in a minute, ready to pounce again -- after all, Romulus was still down -- but then things got weird. Like, really weird. He backed up a bit, knocking into the remnants of a small building and demolishing it. The vampire on the ground, once the same size as he, was now very, very small. The cool guy on the building must've done some spell or something to shrink him. Kinda unfair, but any kind of advantage he got right now he was gonna take it.
The (unknowingly) gigantic wolf took a step, then threw back its head and howled. He felt ridiculously good right now, better than he'd felt for months. But, oh, right! He was supposed to be ripping things apart, and stuff. Without another delay, the bus-sized wolf charged, yellow eyes narrowed in on its pint-sized target, one huge paw swiping out at the vampire.
Romulus's kick freed him, but the prince hadn't much chance to get up before the wolf would merely knock him down again. When the vampire looked up, however, he saw that Orca had become the size of a bus. His silver eyes widened once more, but the great beast's howl gave Romulus enough time to get back up on his feet and think.
After a moment's thought, the wolf's paw came swiping out and Romulus found himself back on the ground again. Orca's paw hit one of the pieces of rubble nearby and a few of the white rocks collapsed and fell near the vampire. A small smirk appeared on the vampire's face. One white hand reached out and grabbed a stone firmly in his palm and stuffed it in one of the pockets of his coat.
He then crawled back onto his feet, a look of determination replacing his expression, and ran as fast as he could at the enormous wolf and jumped up onto the lycan's right leg. He grabbed at Orca's fur and climbed up the side of the beast as fast as he could like a spider darting up a wall. Once atop the lycan's back, he reached into his pocket, removed the stone, and looked up toward Azrael with his steel eyes glistening. That smirk returned.
Romulus approached Orca's ear, and yelled as loud as he could into it, "Orca! Fetch!" He then threw the white stone with all his might, hurling it towards the top of the building where the sorcerer stood.
Say goodbye As we dance with the Devil tonight Don't you dare look at him in the eye As we dance with the Devil tonight
Let Romulus squirm. He deserved it after forsaking Azrael, along with Fenrir and Israfel. Azrael watched, amused, as Orca smashed the vampire back to the ground once more. Azrael wondered briefly what he was trying to accomplish, climbing upon Orca. In a few seconds, Orca would probably just roll over and crush the frail creature beneath a sea of fur and muscle.
Azrael smirked back at the vampire when he saw the rock in his hand . So that's what he was up to. Aiming to throw something at Azrael, perhaps? Maybe trying to even the stage. Even as Romulus raised his arm to throw the stone, Azrael pointed his wand at the vampire's face. Romulus' next words were lost to Azrael, as he was busy shouting his own spell.
"Incendio!"
Though Romulus was smart enough to cover one weakness by wearing fire-retardant armor, he had not covered his head. Thus, this was the perfect target for the jet of fire Azrael shot from his rooftop. Sidestepping, Azrael shook his head slowly as the rock clattered harmlessly several feet to his side. “You missed.” he stated simply.
His hit had been accurate, but the vampire was soon running back toward him, leaping like a monkey and climbing up on his back so fast Orca had scarcely enough time to try a snap at nothing. His muscles tensed, ready to do exactly what Azrael had suspected he might do: roll over on his back like a trick dog and squish Romulus.
"Orca! Fetch!"
He was no dog. Did the vampire really think--
A stone arced above his head, and landed next to Azrael on the building. The wolf's muzzle followed the throw, and there was a pause. Then the lycan burst into a flat-out gallop, first jumping onto the remnants of the building nearest Azrael's -- it immediately began to crumble under his weight, but he wasted no time staying there, just bunched his muscles and leaped again, this time up near the wizard. Yellow eyes sought and found the rock, and he grabbed it with his teeth, careful not to crunch it.
Gosh, even the wizard was teeny. Maybe it wasn't just the vampire, but everything had shrunk? Weird! He grinned, though as the wolf it just came across as a baring of huge teeth. Okay so, he'd gotten the rock. Now... back to what he'd been doing before. Killing the vampire!
He shook himself like a wet dog, hoping that would shake Romulus off. If not, he'd just do the rollover-thing and hope not to crush Azrael too, by accident.
The prince's jaw clenched and his eyes flashed with a mixture of primal horror and anger as the jet of fire emerged from Azrael's wand directly at Romulus's head. There was no dodging this without losing his advantage atop the giant Orca, and the vampire knew what would happen to him once the fire connected with his head. Luckily for Romulus, he was spared the horrible immolation that awaited him by the great wolf leaping directly away from the pillar of flame in the direction of another building.
Romulus dug his hands into the fur on the wolf's neck, the force of the beast's jumps threatening to throw the tiny vampire off onto the ground below. The vampire righted himself as Orca reached the first rooftop, and Romulus expected to have to jump and climb the rest of the way to reach his opponent - but that wasn't necessary, as the wolf then threw all of his force into throwing them both up to the roof where Azrael was.
The vampire's smirk returned, and he jumped with the force of Orca's shaking his fur in order to hurl himself onto the wizard. The vampire flew through the air, teeth bared and hair whipping behind him in the wind, preparing to tackle his former master and drain the man dry of his blood.
Romulus, after all, hadn't had a suitable meal in a long time.
Say goodbye As we dance with the Devil tonight Don't you dare look at him in the eye As we dance with the Devil tonight
Was Orca really this retarded? Chasing after a rock like a house pet? "Orca, what the hell are you doing!" He shouted at him, "KILL ROMULUS! Your master commands it!". With a tremendous 'CRASH', which seemed to shake the entire building, Az stumbled, nearly falling off the top of the building.
What was worse was that Romulus rode his lycan up top as well. Between the two primary options: face Romulus or face the ground below, Az decided to take the latter. Already precariously close to the edge, he took the final step and began free-falling towards the pavement.
There was a reason magical creatures were suppressed and ultimately dominated by wizards. For wizards could make even the most dangerous situations completely nonthreatening with only a few simple spells. If Romulus tried jumping after him, he would very likely break something important, if not outright kill himself. Any other method of getting down would likely take plenty of time. Time enough for Az to plot out something good.
Tapping himself on the head with his wand as he fell, he cast a quick disillusionment charm. He shuddered briefly as the charm took effect, feeling greatly like someone had put snow down his shirt, which was now slowly melting. Even if the vampire could get close to him once more, now he would be unable to see his target.
Now, to deal with not dying from impact with the rapidly approaching ground. Twisting in midair, there was a resounding 'CRACK' as Azrael disapparated, only a few feet from the ground. With another 'CRACK', Azrael re-appeared in the same spot, minus all the momentum from his fall, landing rather gracefully on the ground.
The wolf's oversized tail began to wag, whipping up a heavy wind, even though Azrael was scolding him. It was some kind of attention, wasn't it?
Okay, he agreed brightly, and swung his colossal muzzle the vampire's way. He began to growl, the rumble like thunder from his massive chest.
They were both stuck up there now, on a rooftop stories and stories above the ground below. Even Orca, with all his gargantuan strength, would not be able to attempt the leap down without breaking at least a couple bones. Bones that would, you know, heal, and probably pretty quickly; nonetheless, he was not eager to test it out. He'd kill the vampire, just like master wanted, and then he'd figure out a way to get down. Maybe master would help?
The wolf darted forward, its speed seemingly unhampered by its size, and snapped for Romulus's arm. Limb from limb, right?
Romulus twisted his body in order to fall into a roll when he hit the roof. Azrael decided to jump off the tower rather than face his end by the teeth of the Prince of the Damned, and that left Romulus alone atop the building with Orca. The vampire heard the movement of the great beast, and Romulus turned his head to see the wolf coming at him again with his maw open and ready to tear off his arm.
Stuck on the ground with little time to move, Romulus could not avoid this attack. The wolf caught the vampire's arm in a vice grip with its jaws, and Romulus gave a great heave to pull himself out of the beast's mouth. A sickening crack and a loud tearing noise followed as the vampire's arm came clean off, and his blood coated the wound like oil.
Now with one arm and having only a quick moment to escape, Romulus had hardly any time to wonder why losing his limb was like a fate worse than death. Still, if Orca's goal was to tear Romulus limb from limb, he was one down and three to go. The vampire was going to make sure that wasn't going to be easy. Romulus's head gave a quick turn, and his eyes fell upon the rooftop entrance nearby.
He darted for the door and entered into the building.
Say goodbye As we dance with the Devil tonight Don't you dare look at him in the eye As we dance with the Devil tonight
So, there were three primary ways of Romulus escaping. He could jump off the building, climb down the building, or go into and through the building. How could Azrael take care of all three at once? Quite easily, in fact. The method might be a bit painful for Orca, if he was still on top, but he was an unwilling servant and thus not worth all that much anyways. Besides, lycans could heal, couldn’t they?
Azrael began circling around the building. If Romulus climbed down, Azrael would need to catch him during his descent when he was fairly helpless. If he jumped and survived, Azrael would likely catch him before he managed to crawl off into a hole. If he went through the building…
Azrael would bring it down on top of him.
“Confringo! Bombarda! Incendio!” As he circled, he let loose spell after spell. It didn’t take long before the ground floor was a complete wreck. Fires raged out of control and the building shook precariously. Eventually, something critical finally gave out within the structure. With a terrible creaking groan, the supports for the floor above gave way and the rest of the building came crashing down upon the wrecked ground floor. Yet, the mayhem didn’t stop there. Now, floor after floor, the building began collapsing in on itself. Azrael moved back swiftly, not wanting to be caught under the weight of debris as the structure fell.
Romulus would almost certainly be crushed.
(ooc note: I just had a hilarious mental image of Romulus, covered in blood, decked out in dragonhide armor and looking like he's heading to a death metal concert chillin' in an elevator with some generic cubicle workers. Tappin' his foot as elevator music plays in the background, while the other people just sorta ignore him)
Orca shook his head fiercely, Romulus's arm clenched in his teeth. The vampire had disappeared down some stairway, and Orca, with his current size, had not been able to follow. The wolf, irritated, worried the arm a bit more, before flinging it aside. He whined, scratched futilely at the rooftop, then began to pace.
He didn't have to wait long.
There was a jolting feeling from under his paws that made him first growl, then yelp in fear as the very rooftop began to collapse. He scrambled for a hold, but caught nothing, and then he was falling, parts of the building landing with crushing weight on top of him. He heard bones snap, and a brief howl -- more of panic than pain -- escaped his muzzle. Fuck, had that been his ribs? Sure felt like it. Damn.
The lycan struggled, found a foothold, and managed to burrow his way out from underneath the rubble, then leapt to the ground -- which was, of course, a whole lot closer now that the building had collapsed. He landed and fell instantly, his front right paw curling under him, unable to support his weight. He nosed it, felt the break there, and gave Azrael his best 'why would you do that' look.
Regardless, he was still under command. Until he knew for sure Romulus was dead, he wouldn't stop. The wolf limped painfully over to the rubble, growling anxiously, nose nudging blocks of cement the size of people out of the way almost idly. As soon as his paw healed, he would dig the vampire out.
Romulus stalked among the darkness of the inside of the building, his dripping blood audible within the wide and abandoned halls. The walls were blackened and charred by a fire from long ago, but there didn't seem to be any bodies around. Either those who were within the building when the fires raged managed to escape - which wasn't all that bizarre to suggest, considering how wizards could easily pop in and out of places with apparently no trouble - or the bodies had merely been carried out years ago.
Most likely, the bodies had risen as Azrael's slaves after they had perished.
The vampire heard a loud creaking noise, but he ignored it. He slinked into a corner and waited, his body absolutely still. Considering he now only had one arm and Orca was still pursuing him, he wasn't going to be foolish enough to confront Azrael. If the wizard decided to enter the building, he would be at Romulus's mercy. If the wizard decided to leave, then Romulus would merely return to the Castille and confront Azrael later - possibly with reinforcements of his own kind. Such mind warping tricks as the wizard had used on Orca were not so effective on the living dead.
Not, of course, that they weren't easily turned by other, more mundane tricks.
The great creaking noise happened again, and Romulus once again ignored it. His silver eyes darted up to the ceiling and around him, but he didn't see anything out of the ordinary. The scents in the room were old ash and the sharp, sour odor of his own blood. The vampire took a step forward, his eyes flashing with confusion. With a great rush of wind, the floor fell out from underneath him and the building gave a great roar. Romulus's eyes darted back to the roof entrance he had come in from, but the floor had collapsed between it and the vampire.
Romulus tried to jump the chasm, but the ceiling came in above him and pushed the vampire down into the hole in the floor beneath him. Romulus fell three stories and then caught onto a piece of stable debris with his only hand, hanging for a split second before it too broke off and plunged both it and Romulus into darkness. The vampire finally smacked against a solid surface, but before him was the falling roof, and with a great crash everything turned to darkness.
Romulus could hardly see. Pressed against him on all sides was the rich smell of ash, as what must've been tons of debris lay between Romulus and freedom. An expression of annoyance passed across his face, but none could see it as his entire body was squished between an entire building. He decided, then, to wait. If he was lucky, Azrael would assume he had died like a mortal would and vanish, and if he wasn't, then someone - most likely Orca - would dig him out eventually to finish him off.
Say goodbye As we dance with the Devil tonight Don't you dare look at him in the eye As we dance with the Devil tonight
"Hold, Orca. Take a moment to rest, you need some time to heal up before you do anything more." Azrael said. Though it didn't ultimately matter to him if Orca died while doing his bidding, it would be foolish to let Orca keep working at a meaningless task until his body gave out beneath him. As there was little movement within the ruins of the building, Romulus had either found some secret escape plan Azrael hadn't thought of or he lay crushed beneath the rubble.
"Muffliato." Azrael muttered, walking up to Orca's massive frame, so that no one could listen in on the commands he would give him. "Now, I think it would make both you and I happier if you were to forget our little disagreement in my office, Orca. So, I think another spell is in order. Obliviate!" He said, pointing at Orca's forehead.
"Now, what to do next?" Azrael stood, idly tapping his wand against his hand for a minute or so. "Ah yes. Settling old scores. Orca, I would like you to go to the school. Find Talon for me and kill him. At the very least give him a bite. Then, find that brown-haired boy you like. Zappy, or whatever his name is. Bite him. Then he will be a direct part of your happy family. Wouldn't that be wonderful? Though, under no circumstance should you ever reveal to anyone that I gave you these orders."
Hopefully that would do it. Though magic didn't consistantly work exactly how people wanted it to all the time, he felt that this order concerning Sparky would be the one least likely to trigger discord with Orca. After all, there were only so many friends he could order attacked and killed before the lycan subconsciously tried fighting off his spell. Phrasing things well was key.
One last order of business. Though Romulus was likely already dead a buried, Azrael didn't like to leave a job unfinished. "Incendio!" He said, pointing his wand at the rubble. Azrael waited until he was certain that the fire caught and began to spread before turning back to Orca. "Once your bones have mended, go!"
