I think moving to a new site is more-or-less necessary considering all the history we have here. That said, I'm not attached to Harry Potter necessarily and would be willing to give any new genre or series a try if we wanna do something new. Although we have the most experience with Harry Potter, we could even try a new magical system.
Using multiple characters from one account sounds a bit tricky, but I'm willing to give it a shot.
I don't have any opinion on the points system.
I think keeping the admin account separate from role-playing accounts is a good idea.
I think choosing new house names based on our grandfathered characters would be great, too. I agree that the new Ravenclaw should be named after Mury.
Relocating the site to the US is a good idea. Most of us are Americans, so that would probably make the most sense. We could stuff them in Alaska, if we want to be extreme. We could also try any desolate area in the US if we wanna look at a map first. Is there any kind of environment that would really tickle anyone's fancy? DC or Denver might work, too. Denver is very mountainous, and you can have summer heat at sea level and several feet of snow once you're on top of the mountains. Not to mention, there is civilization in the cities, Roadkill Cafes on the winding mountain roads, and nothing elsewhere. Lots of guns and racism, though. My sister and I have relatives there, so we've visited before. Although Ontario might fit the climate of the old FFU, we are changing things up quite a bit, so I see no reason not to change the climate, too. We can write a description of the landscape and people in the area for whichever place we choose, so we should be sure to have some fun. We could also pick an arid desert type of place.
I think we might consider tossing most/all of the Firefox history (sorry), too. If we keep it around, new players will want to become elementalists and things, and that idea has more-or-less dropped by the wayside over the years. Since the characters can use magic from any "element" anyway with their wand or, if they're skilled enough, do wandless magic, then it always seemed a little unnecessary. It might be fun to come up with a whole new history, too. Having an elaborate history set-up may intimidate newcomers as well.
Regarding special abilities and creatures and things, I agree with what Talon said. I think cutting down so many miscellaneous special abilities and creatures may be the best way to start things off. We can always change things as we go.
I like Froggy's idea about the progression trees. I liked those. They are easy to follow, and new characters have to work their ways up. It's easy to understand where characters' abilities stand. Their histories and backgrounds make sense after that kind of training, too.
@froggy: Someone mentioned grandfathering all of our current and old characters, so none of the people the houses are named after would actually make an appearance.
We have another issue that needs to be addressed... We are a tight-nit group that has a strong inner circle. It would be nice if we could be more inviting or welcoming of new members somehow. Being so close is what makes us consider doing this again in the first place, but new people are also fun. I think we have a bit of a habit of excluding or alienating new members. This is something we should keep in mind when we put things together for real. It's less important at this stage.
Do we still want to have classes and things? Doing the classes and homework assignments could be time-consuming, and it felt like an extra thing outside of role-playing. Most of the assignments usually turned out the same anyway, and the professor would have to keep grading the same thing over again and again. We could figure out an alternative system to earn house points and just use the classrooms for threads people wanted to make. If we decide to go with classes and assignments after all, then we need to standardized how many points each assignment will be worth between all of the classes.

We will need to make new house descriptions for each house, and I don't think they need to match up perfectly with the Hogwarts houses either. We could also make a quiz on another site for players who didn't know which house to stick a character in.
Muryllis is getting a house. House Muryllis vs House Antonius. I agree with Az that Muryllis sounds more fantasy-ish. (Although "House Unseen" would be rather hilarious. Poor wee students, trapped outside and unable to even see their entrance.)
House Windwaltz vs Naunet vs O'Dell vs Rainier vs Genero. Windwaltz is old and started as a student and eventually even became headmaster, so I think he fits this best.
House Roeswood vs ....? Whelp. Considering that most of the Slytherin characters I can think of off the top of my head were quite young as far as RP-history goes, mine included, so Roeswood doesn't have any serious competition. The name is quite lovely, too.
House Halifirien vs Aliagh vs Lardale. Halifirien had the most impact, I think, so I'd lean toward that. Roan definitely stirred up quite a bit of trouble, but she ended up leaving her house and turning into a lycan and etc. She caused quite a bit of damage, so history-wise, I'm not sure she works as well. Rezna did nursing things, but I don't recall her being so active.
EDIT: We could use the names of our older characters for names of towns or rivers or lakes or mountains or even hallways or dining halls for the setting we choose, too. There's no reason to limit it to just the four houses. We have the right to be as fully creative and nostalgic as we want to.

Before we start writing up house descriptions or anything, are we sure we want to go with solely a Harry Potter system? Basing the houses and structure off using that as our outline makes things easy, but do we want to keep using the wands and spells just like that series? If we use progression trees, they would be easy to follow anyway. Since Harry Potter is old news by now, this might cause newer people to pick up more of an interest now. We could alter the magic system to make it different, perhaps more like an RP game. If anyone wants to keep the elementalist system around, that could fit into this more easily than Harry Potter.
With that in mind, what about student years? We were together for so long, that we mostly just moved students up a year each year that we played, but some characters stayed forever-15 while others even shot up in age. It became awkward when the students' years no longer matched up with each other. If we use progression tree, we could set certain standards that make a student move up in rank. This way, students would be sorted by their skill and not by their age. It wouldn't be weird for people to move up in a rank and have new classmates or anything like that. New students could start off as E-rank or bronze class or something and move on up to A-class or gold-rank or whatever as time goes on. Doing it like this would also allow people to make a range of characters in regards to age. We could have both little kids and adults or even elderly people together learning magic.
I am willing to help write basic info things and get things started up and planned, but I can't do any actual role-playing until probably mid-September-ish after I pass my licensing exam.

EDIT:
www.proboards.com/
As far as multiple accounts go, it's pretty easy to keep them all linked together by using the proboards dashboard. I have multiple accounts on there, so I can easily just look at all of my messages on all of the accounts at once. It's really convenient to use and even lets you look at multiple accounts from multiple proboards sites at once. This may be better than having all of our characters on one account.
