"Increase your elemental powers". That was the only order Azrael had given Yamaroshi since he joined the Angelus Morti. Yamaroshi had done that, by looking inside the book "Taurus", which actually did not seem to be a book at all.
Since then, all he could do was practice, because he had not seen Lord Azrael around to ask for help in finding the stolen book. He practiced at the dueling field, at nighttime, so no students would bother him. It was a boring, tedious way to make himself stronger, especially considering there were special books out there he could use to make himself stronger. Still, it wasn't as if he could read all the books and take on the Society of Shadows on his own. He did have to hone his skills. That was the only reason he didn't devote himself to finding the books.
He raised his wand, ready to begin his practice.

OOC: I don’t accept appreciation in bills smaller than twenties.
"What is it doing alone in the dark, I wonder." Came a voice from the only place voices ever seemed to originally come from when a new person entered the scene: behind Yamaroshi. One would think, after being around this area long enough, that people liked sneaking up on each other or something. Or else no one ever seemed to have the capacity to notice others arriving until they spoke.
Whatever the reason, it didn’t really matter now. What mattered was that Orifiel was standing behind Yamaroshi, looking down at him, the only reasonable direction a Nephilim could look at someone. His expression seemed curious, yet with a cheerful smile that usually did nothing to comfort those to whom he spoke with. After all, he was dressed head to toe in black and stood easily a head or two....or four, above most others, making him somewhat of an intimidating figure.
Of course, it also usually seemed to make people more uncomfortable if, while speaking to them, you deftly spun a knife about in one hand, which Orifiel was obliging Yamaroshi by doing. "I don't believe you're a student. At least, not a current student and you look a bit old to be new blood. So, in that case, I would very much like to hear a suitable reason why you're trespassing on school grounds at night and an even more suitable reason why you wouldn't be more comfortable with a dagger in your heart at the bottom of the lake. Hypothetically speaking, of course."

After some moments into the Dueling Field arrived professor Andrey to see how everything looks at night. It was in his nature to see and explore. But when he arrived he saw two men in front of him. Professor saw that they were not from University and accidentally he heard they talk. Then professor came closer to them and in loud voice said: "Excuse me!!! Isn't it too late to be in here? Especially those who, I think, are not from University?" and then professor waited for replies. Professor was at ready, if something goes wrong he will be prepared for everything.

Yamaroshi first turned his head, until the really tall guy was in his peripheral vision, then turned his body enough that he was looking directly at the man. He immediately recognized him as a professor from the school; Yamaroshi saw him during the gathering of the small children who would try to take on Fenris Fenrir. He was quickly reminded of the man's personality as he spoke.
It was difficult for Yamaroshi to tell exactly how serious this man was. He seemed to be defending the castle...with a knife. It was already strange--no wizard in the right mind would think he could hold a knife up to a wand. Still, the way this man presented himself somehow compensated for the knife. Most people were shorter than Yamaroshi, and though it wasn't unusual to meet somebody taller, this man's towering height was certainly not normal, especially now that he was seeing him up close. That grin, and the way this man spoke, and the sort of words he used complemented the man's height and attire.
He answer the man's question, but yet another man, most likely another professor at Firefox appeared. This was a relief. This professor also seemed to be curious as to why Yamaroshi was out in the dark, but he didn't creep up behind him, he was more outward, and from what Yamaroshi could tell, a far simpler man. There were now two men questioning him, but Yamaroshi felt more comfortable.
"I'm out here to practice magic without being bothered by the students," said Yamaroshi to the newcomer, trying to answer both professors at once. He then turned back to the tall guy in black. "And Talon's a friend of mine, so he won't mind me being here, I'm sure." With this, Yamaroshi hoped to avoid any further verbal confrontation with the two men.

Then professor Andrey heard an answer of the one man who was a wizard, but then professor's attention turned to the man who was in black. Then professor thought:
Wait a minute... that man in black... I saw him in university as a teacher... Is that Orifiel? Yes it is.
Then professor calmly and with smile said:
Good evening Orifiel. I accidentally heard your both discussion and it would be great if you - Orifiel - could hide your knife. Otherwise you are scaring the young man before you. Thank you!
Then professor turned to the young man and said:
What's your name? So, you are here to practice... well this is not the perfect time, but if others are bothering you during the day, then it is no problem if you're here with someone, not alone. By the way, can you show me what have you learned and what are you practicing?

Orifiel...
Yamaroshi had heard that name before, when Tiberius stole the book. Talon said something along the lines of 'All nephilim are wicked except Orifiel.'
This was why the man seemed so intimidating.
The boy turned back to the human professor. He seemed a great deal friendlier than the Nephilim, and Yamaroshi was less reluctant to speak to him. The boy managed a smile, happy that this professor was interested in his magic. "My name is Yamaroshi," he said. "And..." The boy pointed his wand to the ground a few feet away from himself. The soil around that patch of earth moved together, until the was a circular dip in the ground, in the centre of which was a ten foot tall, circular mound of earth with a base diametre of about three feet. Lumos, he muttered, creating enough light to see a fair distance easily.
Terrae Sagitta! shouted the boy. From the mound of soil, cones with sharp points were formed and launched at high speed like missiles, over and over until the mound disappeared. The spiky cylindrical things, which were now a fair distance away from the three men, were now sticking in the ground, or simply lying on their sides, but only for a few seconds before losing their shape and becoming nothing more than a random arrangement of mounds of dirt. These mounds weren't there for long, however, as the soil they were made of moved rather like a slug toward the dip in the earth from which they came.

“Well, you haven’t answered my hypothetical question very well…but you did give an adequate enough reason for being here in the first place. You pass inspection.” Orifiel said with a shrug. He clearly didn’t seem to want to cause any trouble, so how interesting he would prove to be seemed doomed to diminish into nothingness. Oh well, Orifiel didn’t need him anyways, he could go find something more interesting to occupy his time somewhere else.
That was, of course, until Yamaroshi went back to his practicing. Orifiel had been about to depart to seek his amusement elsewhere when abruptly the boy had actually begun his practicing . With a odd jumble of words and some wand work, he had begun to shape the earth with apparent ease, something not terribly common around these parts. Clearly, this boy was not some simple drone who affiliated himself with Talon after all. In fact, he was just the sort of person Orifiel was looking for.
Slipping a hand into his pocket he drew forth a small book that he had been carrying for some months now, that same book he had received from the positively charming lady back in the village. He looked at it for a couple seconds before replacing it and walking to stand beside the boy. “So, I see you like your earth magic,” he said, smiling broadly as he clapped Yamaroshi on the shoulder, “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could find a way to get a quick and easy fix to whatever problem has forced you to be out alone practicing? I can help, Orifiel can always help.”
He slipped the book from his pocket again, holding it a decent arms length away from Yamaroshi, yet clearly within view. “Though, help always also comes at a price.”

Yamaroshi was glad to show off his skills to somebody for a change, and he hoped the non-nephilim professor would be impressed. Yet it was Orifiel who seemed to be most intrigued by it. The nephilim's hand on his shoulder made him feel slightly uncomfortable.
Orifiel's words, however were kind enough, as was his smile. He was acting friendly, and Yamaroshi tired to convince himself that this was the side of Orifiel to focus on. He was intrigued by Yamaroshi's earth magic, nothing more.
The boy was, however, rather skeptical about his ability to help. What would he know about the subject? Once again, he tried to keep an open mind, and was quickly assured that indeed Orifiel could help. The book he pulled out was similar to the one Talon had shown him. He grinned widely, realizing what this book was. Just one look at it was all he needed.
The only catch was, of course, the price. What did Yamaroshi have to offer? The only things he had were his clothes, his shuriken which he never used, his wand, and a small amount of money in case he would ever end up needing it. How could that compare to the awesome extension to his elemental powers that book would provide? Perhaps Orifiel might have an idea. "Okay," he said with an intrigued tone. "What is your price?"
Though it was often preferable for those he dealt with to be initially unreasonable and slow to realize that Orifiel’s way was always the right way, Yamaroshi seemed almost reluctant to try anything rash. Though it was sort of a letdown in some small way, Orifiel was (probably?) a very busy man with a very tight schedule. This lack of entertainment ultimately saved him time.
Time was, after all, the most valuable commodity, right? Yet, time was money, so that also made money the most valuable commodity, yet that would mean that the most valuable commodity was actually two commodities, even if they were supposedly equal. Yet if they were equal in the sense of being the same thing ‘time is money’, then wouldn’t that mean that whomever controls the money also has control over time? In other words, the study of economy is the exact same thing as studying divination, if all you’re doing is looking at past times and predicting future times. In fact, was the entire concept of Father Time itself just an image of some crotchety old corporate executive? Perhaps a bank manager or master politician. One who, through his mastery of the economy, also somehow became master of time through a perfectly logical path? If that were the case, then shouldn’t Orifiel get super powers of time by doing an action as simple as robbing a bank? As a matter of fact, the number one question for the moment was: What the hell did any of this have to do with the topic at hand?
Jarring himself back to reality after a rather lengthy pause, which was clearly for the expresss purpose of adding in a twinge of drama and suspense and not due to either party completely spacing out. If such a thing were to happen, it would clearly be Yamaroshi’s fault, not Orifiel’s. “I take payment in blood. Your blood.”
Shrugging as he made his somewhat simple demand, he held the book closer to Yamaroshi. At the same time, he also drew a small silver dagger and glass vial to offer Yamaroshi with his other hand. “Yet, I’m afraid your blood is not so valuable so as to persuade me to let you keep the book. You get one minute for filling the vial, or we will have no deal. In the event that you try to steal the book, you can expect to hear promptly from my lawyer, for I will press charges. Hard.”

Though Orifiel's internal monologue might have been intriguing for him, it was nerv wracking for Yamaroshi. The nephilim just asked for payment for seeing the book, and when Yamaroshi asked what he wanted, there was a long pause. He held his breath and shifted his gaze briefly towards the other professor, then back to Orifiel.
Finally the answer came. Orifiel would take payment in blood. Yamaroshi's blood. At first the boy thought it was a metaphor for some big service he would have to perform for the nephilim. He quickly found out that this was not true. The dagger and vial told the boy that Orifiel wanted exactly what he said he did. Somehow, this made the boy even more uneasy than he would have been had it not been blood the nephilim was after.
It was not unnerving because of the cut he would have to make, as he had suffered much worse at the hands (or rather, claws) of Fenrir. Nor was it the blood itself, as the vial was not so large that he would pass out from blood loss. What bothered him is what the nephilim would do with Yamaroshi's blood. Somehow, it felt like he was making a deal with the devil. Yamaroshi actually had to remind himself that Orifiel was not the devil, and of the prize he would receive for making this deal. He managed to convince himself that this power would be for the good of the students at Firefox University, and that was a noble enough cause.
He took the vial and the dagger first, thinking it better to give Orifiel payment in advance, rather than being anxious and opening the book. He used his teeth to remove the cap of the vial, then moved his right hand, which held the dagger and the empty toward his left wrist placing the blade on his bare flesh, and finally, he dragged the dagger downward, leaving a gash in his skin.
The blood exited through the cut faster than he thought. He grabbed the vial with his left hand, thrust the handle of the dagger into Orifiel's hand while quietly muttering "hold this for me," without moving his jaw, which still held the vial's cap. Finally, he took the vial in his right hand once more and held it next to the cut, catching the first drop before it fell to the ground. To make the process faster, he used his thumb to push the blood from his left hand in the direction of his wrist.
When the vial was full, he replaced the cap tightly, held the vial out for Orifiel, and seized the book from Orifiel's other hand, opening it with a motion of his injured arm, and looked inside.

As Yamaroshi, injured by his blood pact, opened the tome, he found himself flooded with a green light. The first moments were similar to the last one - when he had opened Taurus - but with one major difference. The green light seemed to reflect no writing whatsoever. There were no strange letters or words, simply line drawings that came together to create the form of some kind of heiroglyphic figure.
If Yamaroshi had turned the pages at all, he might've come to realize what this was, but as he was only used to when he had gained the earthen power of the Book of Creation, he kept his heterochromic eyes fixed upon a single page flooded with the emerald glare. It was not long, therefore, that the light had swallowed him up into its pages, and the Earth Mage found himself in a strange place, a dark cave that seemed to have no borders whatsoever except for the stalactites far above him.
There was no one else there - no raging bulls, no gigantic boulders. Just a mysterious cavern with no sign of life.

As the book drew Yamaroshi in, he was reminded strongly of the last time with Taurus. Somehow, he expected the situation to be similar to the last, with the mountain and the bulls...but not this.
It was empty. Nothing was attacking him, and even as he light up the area around him with lumos, nothing could be seen. Just an endless cave with no escape.
Perhaps then his trial was to escape. Suddenly he realized that this might be much harder than his last trial because of the handicap Orifiel gave him--he had one minute. Yamaroshi began to move nervously. Ten seconds had gone by. Only fifty left.

Meanwhile, on the outside of the book, if Orifiel was paying attention to what was happening on the text and ignoring the hypnotic state of the reader, he would see that the bizarre lines that were spanned across the book were now coming together on the single outstretched page before Yamaroshi's eyes.
It took a familiar shape, especially considering the Zodiacal name of the book.
Inside the book, the eerie silence of the borderless cavern was disrupted by the smashing sounds of the ceiling above - there was clearly something trying to get inside. Then, with a flash of green light, a piece of the ceiling collapsed, and from the hole that the blast had created dropped an enormous monster, the creature that reflected the design on the page that Yamaroshi was reading.
A gigantic Scorpion, claws outstretched and tail raised, was reared for battle.
Post by Yamaroshi Riel on Mar 30, 2008 0:44:27 GMT -5
The smashing sound was the first indication that his initial assumption was wrong. He would not simply have to escape the cave. That much was obvious.
The second was the scorpion.
The whole time Yamaroshi thought there was no way a great elementalist such as himself would have much trouble with these trials. Now, for the first time in his life, he was truly daunted. Somehow, he thought it would be easier to fight the Society of Shadows and Fenris Fenrir at the same time.
Wasting no time, he quickly apparated sideways a few meters, and to the other end of the scorpion so he would have a clear path to the front, while avoiding the business end. Then, in a maneuver that would make Evel Knievel cry in envy (despite the fact that he was dead), he dashed forward, while causing the rock to jut out, launching him into the air at high speed.
As he flew past the Scorpion's front leg, he used an attack similar to what he just did, only bigger and in the shape of a spike, which was pointed at the scorpion. More specifically, at its leg. His aim was to remove the scorpion's leg. He did the same for the other three legs on that side until he was about to hit the ground on the other side of the scorpion.
To ensure he was safe from an attack he apparated again before he landed. He was then facing the floor behind the scorpion, only on the opposite side of where he was before. He used a cushioning charm before he hit the ground, but the thud was still not very pleasant. He would need to take a moment to recover. He turned his gaze toward the scorpion. It would probably not wait until he was ready to attack. That was, if it could still move properly.
That was another ten seconds. Only forty left.

The Scorpion, being a celestial entity and having no real care for the elegance of the Earth Elementalist's movement, was simply confused by the way that the Wizard teleported around it. The creature was not expecting Yamaroshi to have come at his legs, but the moment he did so, the mighty arachnid allowed his skin to release Elemental Stalagmites from the joints of his three offended appendages.
Hopefully that would give Yamaroshi a pain in his side to pay for the damage that he had done to one of his own. Then, following the wizard's escape to the other end of the Scorpion, the Zodiac guardian turned himself quickly to face him, and after releasing a hissing sound, ejaculated a disgusting black ooze from between his mandibles at his target.
