She felt the wand tug away from her hand, and reflexively, she closed her fingers tight around it. It should not have stopped it from leaving, of course, Expelliarmus could break even the strongest wizard's hold. It seemed the trick he had taught her was true.
A tiny bit of the animosity left her eyes, and she squared her shoulders, ignoring his praise.
"Do you know anything else useful, or is our time here done?"
It's not that she wasn't grateful, of course she was. However, she did not see any point in dallying around if there was nothing else to learn. He did not seem the type to provide any sort of interesting conversation, in fact, he would probably see it as an opportunity to flirt more. Her brow creased slightly at the thought.
Why did he have to smile so much. Did he not understand it made him look just a brainless ape? Perhaps some of those silly Hufflepuff girls had told him different. Yes, that sounded right. He would be the type to get his ego blown up by those nitwits.
Yes, if he had nothing else for her, she would leave.

Leon was on another run around campus, dressed in the muggle clothes he had packed for exercising purposes. He had already done his exercise routine that morning, but after eating lunch and seeing that Whites wasn't in the Common Room he'd decided that more activity could only help him even more. He was running past the Dueling Field when he noticed Whites and that Slytherin girl whose name he still didn't know hanging around it.
He ran over to them and shouted, "Whites!" The Gryffindor stopped in front of them, breathing heavily. He was soaked in sweat, and he pulled at the neck of his shirt. "Hello again," he smiled at the Slytherin girl. His friend clearly had a thing for her, since she was showing up way more often around him. Leon hoping that she'd have just been one of the first people he'd met and that was it would've let him off the hook too easy, apparently.
He pulled a cloth out of his right pocket and dabbed at his head, getting rid of the sweat. Then he pulled his wand out of his left pocket and pointed it into his mouth, "Aguamenti," he said, and a stream of water poured down his throat. He gulped it down furiously, and when he was finished he shook his head and ran a hand through his hair.
"What are you guys up to?" Leon asked with a grin on his face, his bangs sticking straight up.
Wake up Leave your hesitations Wake up Time for us to realize Wake up Show appreciation Wake up Time for us to realize
Dang, this girl was cold. Whites smiled, undeterred. He was having fun, and that was what mattered. The way she was talking earlier, she wasn't exactly hating being around, either, so mission accomplished!
As if to save him, he heard a familiar voice call out from close by. Grateful for the interruption, enjoying himself or not, he turned and watched as Leon came closer. Man, was this guy going on a jog? He wished he had that kind of motivation. No, Whites wasn't really one for the 'actively working out' thing. Then again, he wasn't in sports. That probably changed your work ethic. He'd been leaving early in the morning, too, he'd noticed, and that was probably to jog. Dang.
He watched as Leon took his fill of water, and smiled back.
"Well, Micha, here--you've met, right--wanted to know a couple of spells." He hoped she wouldn't be all offended at his informal introduction, or at his rather blunt explanation of the situation. "You got any good ones to share?" Leon was something, too. He was obviously more skilled, a little more creative than Whites himself was when it came to magic. It was obvious after the way he'd handled himself during the fight with the undead.
"We'd both appreciate your help, though I hate to talk for others." He nodded his head to Micha. Somehow, he felt he was going to get a whap to the head for that one. That only happened in old sitcoms, though.

"Whites!"
She watched as another Gryffindor made his way over to them, skin wet with sweat. She was not a prissy thing, despite what most thought about her, and rather than recoil from his perspiring body, she in fact approved of his dedicated self-discipline. Whites, that lazy good-for-nothing, could learn from him; he might even possibly be a bit tolerable if he did. Of course, as it required more physical action than waving about a stick, she did not see it feasibly happening.
In return to Leon's smile, the dark-haired girl gave him a faint nod. It was more than most would have gotten. He should feel fortunate.
The spell he used interested her, and she watched avidly, mind instantly recording the word and exact pronunciation. That could be a useful one, if used correctly. She would give Leon credit for that, although his use of the word 'guys' to include both her and Whites as though they were together appalled her. Her face, smooth and pale, remained detached as always, even when Whites -- that moron -- dared to speak for her.
"Micha Volkov, fifth year," her cool lips said, making up for what he did not feel necessary to add, "Slytherin."
Even the slight joking she had momentarily allowed with Whites vanished from her tone, which was again as impassive as carved ivory. If Leon had something to contribute perhaps she would be more talkative, as she had been earlier, but if not then Whites had only himself and his little friend to blame for losing her company.
She withdrew without physically moving, sent only the barest of scathing glances Whites way when he nodded hers. She would stay, for now, but she would not get friendly.

"Yeah," Leon said, nodding to Whites, "we've met, but I hadn't caught her name yet." The solemn nod that Micha had given him seemed to be the only sign of greeting he would receive. A brief glance into those dark eyes of hers was enough for him to tell than a handshake would certainly be out of the question. "Nice to finally know you, Micha," he said to the Slytherin, and gave her a nod back.
He wasn't sure if he meant that or not.
"So you're trying to learn spells?" Leon said once the introductions were finished, and his smile never left his face, "why didn't you just go to a Professor? If you're out here, you should be here to test the spells you already know, not learn them."
Wake up Leave your hesitations Wake up Time for us to realize Wake up Show appreciation Wake up Time for us to realize
Whites brought up a hand to scratch at the back of his head, in a near-sheepish fashion. It was true, but at the same time, he wasn't the one who had come here to learn spells. He didn't exactly want to tell Leon that it was, in fact, Micha who had asked to learn spells (thought it was understandable given the circumstances!) and the whole idea of explaining the entire situation to him sounded exhausting to him.
"Yeah, that's true. It was a pretty, ah..." He glanced at Micha, sheepish grin still in place. "Impromptu meeting, really. Almost an accident." A fun accident. "We were just kind of talking, since all that stuff that went down with those Inferi back in the entrance hall."
He looked a little more worried at the mention of the zombie invasion, though his easy-going smile remained on him. "I guess we could always move to the library, though that's a little more boring." He was more into explosions than reading. "You up to it?"

Micha kept silent while the boys talked, only paying interest when Whites looked at her. She returned his glance, did not so much as raise an eyebrow, though it could be said there was a tiny bit of appreciation in her usually guarded dark eyes. She had assumed he would jump at the chance to brag about how she had come to him and asked for help; his chivalrous way of smoothing that over made some of her irritation toward him die. A lot of the irritation, actually, most of which stemmed from his initial ignorance of her, when they'd first all met in the Entrance Hall.
For that, now, she forgave him.
The library appealed to her, though she was not sure she could get any proper studying down with these two monkeys clowning around, but then a fragment of something Leon had said caught up to her, peaking her attention.
"...you should be here to test the spells you already know..."
Who said you could not have your cake and eat it too?
The girl spoke, seeming unconcerned as she reached up and untied her hair, "Why don't you two duel?" The high pigtails had begun hurting her head, though the pain might have also been due to the company she currently had to endure. "That is what this area is for, no?" Her hands were quick as they retied her pigtails lower, leaving them to curl down her slim chest. Better. "Perhaps we can all learn from one another, and this way Whites will also not become bored."
Micha did not care, of course, but she had a feeling he would be the type that became intolerable with nothing to do. She also looked forward to seeing the two of them blast spells at each other; even just the thought was entertaining. Of course, if the two turned their mock-fight into just boys horsing around, she would leave, that much was for certain.

Leon still had fresh sweat on his body, and Whites was telling them to go study in the library? Yeah sure, maybe after a hot shower and a change of clothes. Despite his clear preference to his fellow Gryffindor over the Slytherin, he approved of her suggestion much more. "Sounds like a plan," the Gryffindor said, giving Micha a glance, "you both handled yourselves pretty well when the Inferi showed up."
Like Whites, Leon had done his research on the invading monsters after they'd shown up. Despite their wizard terminology, the creatures were just about as zombie as the magical world would get. Still, there were a few things in there, like fire repelling them, that didn't seem to add up. In the end, he figured it was better for a wizard to think on their feet when it came to challenging the Dark Arts.
"What do you say, Whites?" Leon said, poking his pal in the chest with his wand, "let's duel. It'll give us both a chance to test our spells, and Micha might see something in there that she doesn't know."
Wake up Leave your hesitations Wake up Time for us to realize Wake up Show appreciation Wake up Time for us to realize
Though he was a little opposed to the idea of having to fight Leon, he figured it couldn't hurt... or it wouldn't, for long, anyway. It wasn't all that bad of an idea, and hey, if it was Micha wanted, and it avoided them going to the library and getting bored and getting kicked out of the library, it was a plus to him.
"Sure." He nodded. "Sounds good, I guess." He raised his own wand as he was poked in the chest, then slowly backed away. "I'm guessing we should get into positions, then?" He was a little rusty on the rules of dueling. Shouldn't there have been some sign, billboard, post-it note, anything stating the rules posted? There probably was, and he just hadn't noticed it yet.
"Why do I have a feeling that you just want to see me trampled?" He joked at Micha, still smiling lightly.

She had handled herself well? Of course she had. She did not need him to tell her so. Of course, it could not be said she didn't appreciate the compliment; Micha Volkov was a graceful sort, and as such it came naturally to murmur a distant, "Thank you" his way.
Both boys seemed to like her idea, as she had thought they might; after all, she had never known a male to turn down a fight. She wondered if duels were the same here as they were back at Durmstrang, where many a well-intentioned play fight ended in missing limbs. It could be fun.
As Whites moved, so did she, backing up several steps so as to get out of the line of fire. She believed herself quick enough to dodge or counter any stray spells that got flung her way, but there was no harm in being careful.
The briefest of smiles touched her cold lips at Whites' question. "Now," she said, pretending to be busy examining her wand, "why would I want that?" By her tone, it was impossible to tell if she was serious or joking just like him. Of course, that was probably her intention.
Leon walked away from Whites so as to assume a dueling stance at a distance from him. He was pleased to see Micha responding to his friend's flirting, as it showed that Whites' continuing interactions with her weren't for absolutely nothing. Leon took his position and held his wand aloft. He could almost feel a sense of anticipation from it. "Alright, you ready Whites?" Leon called out, "let's not get any limbs blown off here, let's make it a simple duel to disarm."
He glanced over at Micha, and then back at his fellow Gryffindor. "Is that okay with you? If so, you can go first."
Wake up Leave your hesitations Wake up Time for us to realize Wake up Show appreciation Wake up Time for us to realize
Finally. It'd taken so much to get her to just smile. Not a smirk, not a condescending grin, but a smile! (Not that he'd witnessed her make use of the two.) He didn't respond, but there was a smile on his own face nonetheless. No matter how short it had been, he had finally succeeded! Score one for Eric's Boots and Shoes Whites. Awesome. Now he just had to work on getting a bad-ass name, something Russian like Micha Volkov or something just cool like Leon Foster. Maybe he'd change his name someday, to one that didn't earn his parents galleons upon galleons until he was of age.
"Sounds fine!" He called to Leon. Was it cheating that he had the gripping charm still applied? By now, the strength was probably weakened until it was just about gone, anyway--he hadn't been expecting a duel. Besides, the charm was probably cheating in professional duels anyway. He was glad it was gone--he didn't want an unfair advantage. This would be a fair fight, and whether he lost or not, hey. At least it was fun, right?
Something like that! Anyway, he figured something simple and straight to the point would be best, though Micha would probably look down on him for not being more imaginative and going with something so expected.

Micha's face fell slightly at Leon's statement about no limbs getting blown off. How could this be fun, then? Children could disarm each other. Well. She would wait a little, maybe this was just how Firefox students warmed up. Perhaps they would at least blow up part of the field.
Her stone-colored eyes tracked to Whites at his first shouted spell. Expelliarmus? How boring. Of course, she expected nothing more from him. If he scored a hit, then maybe she'd give him praise. Maybe.
Leon expected Whites' first move to be the most obvious spell in the book. It wasn't so much a lack of imagination to go for the disarming charm immediately, but a simple understanding of practicality. If the goal was to disarm, then why not use the spell that did that most effectively? There'd be a chance his opponent was caught off guard and that'd be the end of the duel.
Fortunately for Leon, it was too early in the duel for him not to be paying attention.
"Protego!" He casted, and the force of the disarming charm hit the shield that suddenly appeared to protect him. It hurled itself back at its creator in order to apply its effects onto him. Just for good measure, Leon decided to follow up with a "Relashio!" The relinquishing charm, which, if effective, would force his opponent's hand to release their wand.

Alright, so maybe the most obvious wasn't the best choice. And maybe, just maybe, he hadn't expected it to actually reflect off the shield. He'd seen maybe missing, maybe, and he'd highly doubted that he would hit first round (he'd need a natural twenty for that anyway), but damn! The reversed Expelliarmus hit him, loosening his grip on his wand. It nearly jerked out entirely, but he was safe.
It was still holding on by just a tiny, tiny bit, thanks to his charm, so he could totally swing his arm back in front, cast his next spell-
His wand went flying.
"Wh... What?" Whites asked air, staring at where his wand had dropped on the grass. It was an unfortunate turn of events, really, but not something he could help. He couldn't help it.
